League play resumes this evening with a nationally televised match on ESPN2. Here’s a quick preview from the league:

D.C. United vs. New York Red Bulls, 5 p.m. (ESPN2)

· The first heated regional rivalry in MLS crested the 20,000-fan mark 10 different times in its first four years. D.C. United holds a 17-8-3 advantage in front of RFK Stadium’s bouncing supporters’ section.

· Last season D.C. United scored just 21 goals in 30 games, the least in MLS by a 10-goal margin. But this year, United have nine goals in five games – tied for the most in the league.

· United’s Chris Pontius scored two goals against Toronto; his first tallies since June 10, 2010 – also a 2-goal effort, against Seattle Sounders FC.

· Thierry Henry scored his first goal of the season and added an assist in the 3-0 win against San Jose, a performance Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe called his best so far with the Red Bulls. Henry had last scored Sept. 11, 2010, vs. Colorado.
