Tacoma Tide Football Club today announce the first two players returning for the 2011 USL Premier Development League (PDL) season and the debut duo of a series of online trading cards featuring Tide players and Tacoma landmarks.

Returning to the Tide for the 2011 campaign are goalkeeper Jordan Jennings and Forward Chris Sanders. The online trading cards for both players are now available at www.TacomaFC.com by clicking the roster link. Over the next few weeks leading up to the Tide home opener on Friday May 13 at Stadium Bowl the club will be revealing its roster and at the same time debuting online trading cards. Tide fans can click, download, save and trade the cards via the club’s pages at www.Facebook.com/TacomaTideFC and www.Twitter.com/TacomaTideFC.

Jordan Jennings

Jordan Jennings has been with the Tide for all six of the club’s PDL seasons. The Stadium High School graduate was a standout in the Narrows League as well as for FC United (now called Washington Premier FC.) The six foot, two inch tall Jennings will turn 26 this year.

Last year Jordan was thrust into the regional and even international spotlight when he was called upon to go into goal for Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer in an international friendly against famed Scottish side Celtic before over 40,000 fans at Qwest Field. Jennings’ first order of business was to try and stop a Celtic penalty kick after Seattle goalkeeper Terry Boss had been red carded. While Jordan didn’t make the stop, he did earn praise from Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid. “For a kid who’s not normally on our team, who plays in the PDL a couple divisions below, I thought he did well.” Schmid said. “He acquitted himself well. He came up with a couple of good saves; snagged a camera-perfect one going to his left.”

Chris Sanders

Chris Sanders comes into the 2011 season after leading the Tide in goals last year with nine. Chris was named the 2010 Most Valuable Offensive Player in the PDL Northwest Division by Examiner.com. The Six foot two inch striker will turn 26 this year.

In an interview before the previous season on Examiner.com Sanders talked about his interesting soccer career. It includes time in Germany with Nurnberg. “I played mostly with the Nurnberg second team- and we were in the Regionalliga. But, as at any big club, the 2nd team and the 1st team train together all of the time,” said Sanders. “We would routinely play against the first team on Wednesdays- and I learned a lot from playing against these players. Just about every player had international experience on some level, and I would like to think that, tactically speaking, I picked up a lot of good ideas from players that have a wealth of knowledge.”

Sanders scored his first Tacoma goal on May 28, 2010 in a 4:1 Tide victory over the Yakima Reds. Two days later he added a pair in a win over Spokane. Chris was a Canadian killer in 2010 with match-winning goals against the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency and the Victoria Highlanders.

In a recent video interview for TacomaFC.com Sanders talked about coming into the new season with a healthy body. “In terms of my involvement (with the Tide) last year, I had just come off of a serious knee injury so I really wanted to make sure I had a chance to get back fit and get back into the groove. I started to do that as the season went along. This season I am just trying to improve upon that.”

Sanders played indoor soccer in the Tide off season with the Tacoma Stars of the PASL.

Online Trading Cards

The 2011 Tacoma Tide Football Club online trading cards pair players up with Tacoma landmarks. In the club’s first two cards goalkeeper Jordan Jennings is paired with the SR 509 Cable Bridge while Forward Chris Sanders’ card features Tacoma’s Union Station.

The Tide are using images of the city of Tacoma in 2011 to highlight their move to Stadium Bowl.

Future cards will appear on the club’s social media sites as well as at www.TacomaFC.com.

Weekend results

Tacoma Tide FC are now in the process of cutting trialists as they prepare for the new season. Over the weekend squads of mostly open tryout players fell 3:0 to Gonzaga at Stadium Bowl and then drew 1:1 with St. Martin’s in Lacey, WA.
