Here’s a report from the club on the eve of its final day in Florida:

The Seattle Sounders FC took the field on Friday morning for its final training session of the Florida leg of preseason camp. The team did fitness work with fitness coach Dave Tenney and then played several games of 5v2 keep away to warm up.

The group then played a game of 11v11 on a half field with four big goals on each sideline with a keeper in net. The drill focused on changing the point of attack and defense. There were a series of goals from Fredy Montero, Blaise Nkufo and Alvaro Fernandez as the blue team dominated much of the drill. The team then transitioned into a full-field game of 11v11 where the group that is expected to start tomorrow was on offense. The focus was on maintaining possession while advancing the ball towards goal. Steve Zakuani had a highlight goal when he curled a right-footed shot from just inside the 18-yard box to the side netting of the far post.

The players who played significant minutes in yesterday’s game had a recovery day.

  1. Hi Don Ruiz! I love your local soccer coverage. In that regard, I wanted to draw your attention to an online bracket challenge that Arlo White is in. The link is: http://www.mynorthwest.com/category/media_bracket/

ESPN radio, specifically the Brock and Salk show, are holding a single elimination online bracket for the best sports announcers and analysts in Western Washington. Despite being ‘your official place to talk Sounders’…Arlo is the only soccer guy in the field of 64.

I was wondering if you could throw your endorsement behind Arlo?

  2. Don Ruiz says:

Absolutely, D. A vote for Arlo is a vote for soccer. Thanks for passing along the link, and I hope that all readers of this blog will use it.

  3. Thanks for pointing it out. Vote early vote often. :)
