Sounders play with what looks like a first 11

The Sounders concluded their four days of Seattle-area work today with a day mostly devoted to fitness testing. However, they ended with some 11-on-11 work, and one of the teams looks a whole lot like a starting lineup:

Here’s some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say about some of the 11-v-11 work.

It’s a little bit of a reward always, when you can play 11-v-11,” he said. “But we also wanted to play a little bit big. We’ve got some decision here coming up, pare the roster down a little bit (before) we go into Arizona. It was good. I think they enjoyed playing 11-v-11. There were some good goals, so that was good as well.”

And then on cutting down: “We’ll probably trim the roster, a little bit. I couldn’t tell you now by how many. It could be three to five, something in that neighborhood.”

Back with more soon.

I’d say Hurtado slots ahead of Ianni. Otherwise that does look like a starting 11. Evans/Friberg in the midfield could change also.

  2. Hurtado probably isn’t fit enough to start yet. Maybe by the start of the season.

Should be interesting to see Evans respond to the Friberg challenge. He’s got the talent, just inconsistent. Part of that is the curse of being able to slot in a bunch of places.

I spoke both Hurtado and Evans this week, and will write about their situations for tomorrow’s paper. I’ll also try to add the transcripts of those interviews in a new blog post before then.
