Sounders trade Seitz for draft pick

Chris Seitz’s stint with the Sounders did not last  long. Only hours after he was taken in the stage 2 of the MLS re-entry draft the team traded the 23-year-old goalkeeper to FC Dallas for a fourth round SuperDraft pick in 2012.

Seitz started 22 matches, posting a 1.8 GAA, 0.596 save percentage and 5-12-6 record in 2,047 minutes. Brad Knighton replaced Seitz as Philadelphia’s starting ‘keeper for seven of the last eight matches of the season.


Sounders grab a goalie in MLS re-entry draft

The Sounders gained a player and lost one in today’s Major League Soccer re-entry draft.

Seattle selected the rights to goalkeeper Chris Seitz with the ninth overall pick. Seitz, 23, will join his third MLS team in five seasons. He appeared in a career-high 23 games with the Philadelphia Union in 2010 after being acquired in a preseason trade with Real Salt Lake.

Defender Tyrone Marshall, who spent the last two seasons with the Sounders, was taken by the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids.

Montero & Sounders help with Colombian disaster

This just in from the club:

Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero has returned to his hometown of Campo de la Cruz, Colombia the team announced today. Montero received a call from his grandfather on Monday asking for his help. Weeks of rain and flooding in several Colombian states has caused the nation’s worst natural disaster in nearly two decades.

“Once I saw how bad it was I knew in my heart I had to go as soon as possible,” said Montero. “I’m hoping with assistance from others I can get the resources to help those who are in need.”

MLS announced 54 combine invitees

Here’s the release from the league:

Major League Soccer today announced the initial list of 54 college seniors from 36 Division I schools who have been invited to participate in the 2011 adidas MLS Player Combine. The annual player combine will be held at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Jan. 7-11. The Combine will separate all players into four teams and feature two games per day on Jan. 8, 10 and 11.

Sounders to hold open tryouts in January

Here’s the word from the team:

The Seattle Sounders FC will hold Open Tryouts on January 29-30, 2011, at the team’s training ground, the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington. Tryouts will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Open tryouts are open to male soccer players ages 18 years and older. Tryouts will feature small-sided as well as 11v11 games.

Players will be assessed by members of the Sounders FC technical and coaching staffs, including Head Coach Sigi Schmid, General Manager Adrian Hanauer and Technical Director Chris Henderson.

Three more Sounders receive green cards

Here’s the release from the club:

The Seattle Sounders FC announced today that defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, forward Blaise Nkufo and midfielder Steve Zakuani have received their U.S. Green Cards, granting all three players permanent resident status in the United States, effective immediately.

As residents, Hurtado, 26, Nkufo, 35, and Zakuani, 22, will no longer occupy International Player slots on the club’s roster.

A native of Colombia, Hurtado was a finalist for 2009 MLS Defender of the Year and an MLS All-Star selection. He started nine of the first 10 matches in 2010 before sustaining a season-ending injury.
