The LA Galaxy and captain Landon Donovan have announced that the club’s all-time leading scorer will forgo any potential loan opportunities when the international transfer window re-opens on January 1. Donovan, who played more than 50 games with the Galaxy, U.S. National Team and while on loan with Everton in 2010, was named to the MLS Best XI team again last season after scoring seven goals and adding an MLS-best 16 assists in 24 regular season games.

Here’s the full release from the LA Galaxy.

One result is that we can now expect that Donovan will be in uniform with the Galaxy when they open the 2011 MLS season in Seattle.

  1. Good for Landycakes, good for MLS. In all honesty I was so happy for him having a successful run in EPL. He proved what he need to prove to himself and dealt with our collective baggage. But our flag is solidly in his hands and I appreciate that we kept him home, even if he is the enemy.

Now we have men like Holden showing that our generation of Americans can get it done. There’s nothing else to prove. Play where you want to play now. They know our boys have skill.

If Donovan builds this league to its potential, he’ll have done more than if he went to the Toffees and finished a sad season.

Now, if he wanted to play for Arsenal, that’s a different matter. :)

Yeah – It was pretty cool to see the fans in Everton get so jacked about Donovan ….
But I’m glad he’s staying stateside. He clearly loves playing at Qwest, and when he’s on the pitch, it’s on. Great soccer.
Now, I just have to say … How sick would it be if he decided to bring his talents to Seattle?
His game-day work rate … The workman-like way he practices … Him and Alonso in central midfield … Total sickness
