HEAD TO HEAD: Los Angeles leads the regular-season series, 2-1-1. The Galaxy swept the 2010 regular-season meetings: 4-0 in Seattle and 3-1 at Home Dept Center. However, the Sounders beat the Galaxy, 2-0, in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals in Tukwila.

SIGI SCHMID SCOUTING REPORT: “The object is not to give anything up at home, for sure, and to walk away with a victory. If we can win at home, it puts the pressure on them when they go back home to come at us. So, the most important thing is to win; whether it’s 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 is not important to me.”
NOTES: This is the first game of a two-game aggregate-score home-and-away series. Total goals over the two games will decide the winner. If goals are even after the second game, it will go into 30 minutes of extra time. If it remains even, the winner will be decided by penalty kicks. … Los Angeles won the Supporters Shield, marking the best regular-season record in MLS. Seattle had the best record over the second half: 10-2-3. … The Galaxy went 9-3-3 on the road; Seattle was 8-4-3 at home. … Buddle finished second in the MLS goal-scoring race, while Donovan led the league in assists. … This will mark David Beckham’s first Qwest Field appearance against the Sounders. He had two goals and one assist in seven league games this season after returning from an Achilles injury. … Schmid leads MLS in playoff wins (19-8-5) while L.A.’s Bruce Arena is 16-5-4. This is the first time they have opposed each other in the postseason. Arena got his coaching start at the University of Puget Sound. … The Sounders invite fans to get in the Halloween spirit by taking part in a costume contest at 2:45 at Occidental Park before the March to the Match. There also will be a soccer-themed haunted house in the north stadium lot. … Tickets remain available. The club reported sales at around 34,500 as of Friday. …The referee is Ricardo Salazar.
