Technical director Chris Henderson is quotes in a couple of the posts below regarding the possible parting of the ways between the Sounders and designated player Freddie Ljungberg.
However, here are a couple of other things he had to say today:
Why leave the deal to Ljungberg, rather than make a straight trade or transfer: It’s probably different in his situation as a designated player. The window is right now for him to do it. He has his agent looking, like Sigi said about the contract situation. I think we just are day-to-day to see what happens. If it doesn’t happen then we have a different plan than if it does. I think we just kind of wait and see. There are other things that have been thought through where if he does end up leaving, then we go from there.
Is is possible he could play for the Sounders again? I think so. I’ve been in many teams where you never know what’s going to happen from game to game with results and things can change so fast in soccer, so never say never. He is an amazing player. Sometimes it’s the balance of the team. That is the coach’s job to figure out. We want to do everything we can to get into playoff position first and then make the playoffs. So it is conceivable.
