“Goal keeping is goal keeping”, Jordan Jennings said a day after his dream debut for the Sounders FC vs Celtic FC.

“You take crosses, you block shots, you organize defenders, and do what you can. It’s all the same, whatever level you’re on.”

Jennings’s spring board for this opportunity is the Tacoma Tide FC, a PDL (70% of MLS draft picks in last 5 years have PDL experience) team with it’s last home match coming at Curtis HS Stadium on July 24 against the Kitsap Pumas. Jennings, modestly reflects on a day that overwhelmed expectations of his Tacoma Tide teammates, family, and friends. The occasion though, didn’t overwhelm the Tacoma native.

Jennings reflected on the situation, “The sounders keep a small group of guys in their goalkeeper pool. We train off and on with them, so when things worked out for me to fit in, I was given the opportunity to sit on the bench. I had to prepare and tell myself: They’re not asking me to be a guest; I’m actually Terry’s [Boss] backup. I had to wrap my mind around the chance to go in. I prepared myself well, and I felt good”

With a little prodding, the Seattle University alum considered the whirlwind of a weekend.

“It was an amazing opportunity, I’m really happy I did so well. I’m just hoping something good comes out of this and it can push my soccer career along.”

  1. Good game film for USSF II and MLS teams to take a look at. Some nice saves, never seemed out of position, good foot work. The backs also seemed well organized, though I always wonder how much a keeper can influence that in a place as loud as Qwest. All in all very solid performance for being thrown into storm.
