Big crowd, bad game, other notes

The final result matched the worst defeat ever suffered by the club, duplicating a 4-0 loss last season at San Jose.

It stands alone as the club’s worst home loss ever, and marked the most goals surrendered on their home pitch.

Tt all played out before the Sounders’ largest home crowd for an MLS match: 36,273.

Starting defensive midfielder Osvaldo Alonso left the game with a strained quad in the 37th minute, when the Sounders were one-goal down. He was replaced by Nathan Sturgis. “I thought Sturgis did fine,” Schmid said. “I don’t think that having Ozzie would have had an impact on the second or third goal.”

The Sounders were called offsides 10 times. “A couple times we got called because guys were lazy coming back – those are not good offsides,” Schmid said. “A couple offsides weren’t offsides — bad calls by the linesmen. A couple of them, the ball was played too late.”

The Sounders reserves will play a training game Sunday. The team will be off Monday, return to practice Tuesday and Wednesday, and fly to New York on Thursday.

Disgraceful performance on such a nice day.

Once LA got that second goal, many on the team quit. Both Marshall and Hurtado were caught ball watching on that 3rd goal. other than Montano in his debut, little energy out there once the team fell behind.

Montano may have some flashes of brillance in the weeks ahead, but it will take some time before he can be a regular contributor. now if only the team could get a replacement for pass-back pete. Vagenas adds nothing when the team is down – only good for passing backwards and killing off a game.

This team not only has problems finishing, it does not come back well. But to sit on their collective hands like they did in the second half yesterday was unconscienable. I had never left a Sounders game early- before yesterday.

If the team is going to leave, why should a fan stay?
