As mentioned below, the Sounders did their first 11-v-11 full-field scrimmage today.

There were no goals, but coach Sigi Schmid said he was generally pleased with what he saw.

“For the first day out it was good,” he said. “There were a couple of mis-timed tackles. We got a few shins bruised because we had a couple of guy had bad first touches so they decided to kick the opponent instead of kicking themselves. It was good. The energy level was good. You expect that. You’ve got to get that first one out of the way, get all that adrenaline out of their system. But I thought there was good movement, good energy. I thought the defense played very well. A couple of guys are coming off injuries. Like Taylor Graham, I thought had a good scrimmage today, did very well defensively. I was happy with the young guys. I thought (David) Estrada was good and busy and active and kept possession for his team, which is what we were looking for, so I was pleased.”

I’m starting to think we may have found a hidden gem in Estrada.

Good to see Graham is finally healthy. That poor guy had no luck last season.

    Hey DR,
I think Jaqua’s injury us possibly a huge story. Unless he can get back to full strength, it’s may not have been the best call to protect him in expansion…

I haven’t done much with that because I just haven’t heard anything to indicate that this should be a factor by the time the season starts. However, I’ll try to look into it closer next week before they head off to Phoenix.

Great story about Estrada. This dude is for real.
