Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said today that No. 2 draft pick Michael Seamon and free agent forward Tye Perdido will both return to school after the club’s local training concludes next week.
Seamon will return to Villanova and Perdido to Gonzaga.
Both may then rejoin the club in the summer, similar to what 2009 draft pick Michael Fucito did last season.
Here’s Schmid’s explanation:
“With Michael Seamon we’re going to let him go back and finish school. He’s so close to finishing school and he’s in his last semester. If somebody still had a year to go, we’d say okay make a decision. He’s in his last semester. It’s a pretty expensive school. I don’t think he wants to pay for that. MLS even with the new union agreement is probably not going to pay rookies that much. And they finish early May. We’ll probably do the same thing with Perdido. Let him finish school because he’s in the same situation in the last quarter.”
