What will Sounders fans find when they travel to Portland for the resumption of the Sounders-Timbers rivalry in 2010?
Apparently a somewhat larger and more comfortable PGE Park with east-side seating, more restrooms and a nice new souvenir shop.
It seems like a fairly modest re-do for all the trouble it’s causing, but here it is.
On the other hand, while the changes don’t seem massive, PGE was a pretty cool place already, so keeping a lot of what was already there makes sense. There wasn’t — and won’t be — any other place like it in MLS.
And really, these changes also move PGE from not-acceptable to acceptable for an MLS franchise … and that’s the difference that matters most.
Here’s a good overview from the Oregonian.
And finally, a pretty good look at the advantages of soccer-specific stadiums, in this case tied to the complicated efforts in Houston.
Hmmm. Anyone else see the terraces they had talked about for TA? I dont’ see them. Maybe in the South End? Would be curious to know if we know where visitors will be located. What about pitch size?
At first I though remodeling a baseball park was a bad idea but I wonder if this place will end up with some character as a result. Kinda the way Fenway is because of its unique setup.
