Sigi heard you. I asked Sounders coach Sigi Schmid this morning if those on the pitch could notice that upper-deck seats were sold last night, and that the Sounders were playing before their largest MLS crowd of the season.
“It was definitely louder,” he said. “I thought it was louder. I thought the fans were really into it, the intensity. You could definitely feel the buzz in the stadium. The opening game had a tremendous buzz. The game against [FC] Dallas had a great buzz. Not that any game has been bad for us but this game was right up there with those two games.”
And now, if you’d like to relive the entire night at Qwest in two minutes, here it is in hyper-cool time lapse, courtesy of the TNT’s hyper-cool photo department.
I wish Nate had kept playing with the bloodied jersey- a real in your face to the Dynamutts. Maybe the team has kept it- bloodied. For the trophy case.
To be brought out before every Houston game.

I like the way the psychology shapes up for game 2.

Off-topic, but I _love_ the Sounders ad with the footage from the tunnel!
Great stuff!
Great fan perspective!

Well done by the TNT photo staff. But one opportunity for improvement: This should have been shot so that you can see the stands behind the south goal, where all the ultras are. They’re the real story behind the atmosphere at Qwest; have been all year long.

Thanks JoeP. I was thinking the same thing myself. Big props to photographer Joe Barrentine though for putting it together.

It’d be interesting to see how the South End support groups have grown over the season. I suspect there’s been quite a bit of shuffling once the soccer moms realized what they’d gotten themselves into in the GA (despite the best efforts of FO ticket salespeople warning them) but I’ll bet they’ve also have grown significantly as the younger people become attracted to the party.
