080407sounderslogo[1]The Sounders regulars had a short day today, but Sigi Schmid had the reserves work a full-field practice, thinking it important to get them some work.

Now the Sounders get the weekend off. They’ll return Monday and Tuesday, take Wednesday without training, return to the pitch Thursday and fly to Houston a week from today.

Coach Sigi Schmid said the ideal playoff series would have the normal one-week between games, but he’s got more than that, and that’s how he’s using it.

Meanwhile, Tyrone Marshall, who was held out of last night’s game with a knee ligament strain, doesn’t seem to be taking it as a foregone conclusion that he’ll be ready by Nov. 8.

“We’ll see on Monday,” he said. “I feel like it’s feeling better. I’m going to have a little procedure done today at the doctor’s office to kind of help the area heal quickly. Last night it was 24 hours after the incident happened so it was still kind of fresh. The more time you get to rest it, the better it is. We’ve got a couple of days off to rest it this weekend and that will definitely help. And we have a long week next week, and the more time it is to heal for me the better it is.”

I’m not sure if that procedure sounds more high-tech or Dark Ages, but here’s how he described it: “They’re probably going to put some of my blood into that area to help it heal faster. I guess they have this new procedure where they spin your own blood in that area and it makes that area heal faster.”

Sounders better use the long break between games- looks like it will be a very short break between Houston and conference final.

Looking at the TV blocks for the conference finals, games are scheduled for 7pm Thursday, November 12th and 4:30pm Saturday, November 14th. Given that a 7pm west coast start is 10pm east coast, anyone wagering that the West Conference finals are the Thursday? Just four days after all four teams in the West play (Sunday November 8th).

    Thank you ESPN.
