FC advice: Arrive early … and you’ll want to

The Sounders have an early kickoff Saturday: a high noon showdown with Chivas USA.

For those who can’t make it, here’s a reminder that the game is on Fox Soccer Channel.

For those who have tickets — the game is sold out, of course — the club is advising that you arrive earlier still in this annoucement:

Sounders FC fans are encouraged to arrive early at Qwest Field for Saturday’s match vs. Chivas USA. The Qwest Field gates open at 10:30 a.m. and first kick is at noon.
Fans are encouraged to avoid the right lane on southbound Fourth Avenue at Royal Brougham unless they are parking in the Qwest Field garage. Fans parking in the garage will have access by one lane only via South Royal Brougham Way and Fourth Avenue South or South Royal Brougham and First Avenue South.

However, in this case, fans may want to arrive early for more reasons than to beat traffic.

The U.S. Open Cup will be carted along on the march to the match, which starts at 10:30 a.m. at Occidental Park.

Then the cup will be part of a pregame celebration inside Qwest Field, which also will include the unfurling of a new U.S. Open Cup banner.

And also before the match, the Sounders FC will honor the original Sounders of the North American Soccer League.

Stadium gates open at 10:30 a.m.

Also a post-game reminder: The Mariners play the New York Yankees across the street at Safeco tomorrow, however the 7:10 p.m. first pitch should make that meaningless for all but those Sounders fans who make a full day of it.
