Schmid says Ljungberg return on schedule

Injuriest came up after the Sounders’ practice at Qwest Field today, with coach Sigi Schmid saying this about the projected early- to mid-April return of designated player Freddie Ljungberg: “It hasn’t shifted backwards. The situation with Freddie is we want to optimize his rehab. With us going down to Ventura and now Argentina, these are not places that are optimal for his rehab. By him staying right now in Sweden to work on a daily basis, he has all the stuff he needs. When he comes and joins us after we come back from Argentina he will be at a

The Seattle Sounders FC signed defender Evan Brown, the 16th overall selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft out of Wake Forest. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms were not disclosed.

FC will open sections — not upper deck — for opener

Seattle Sounders FC will open the upper deck of Qwest Field for its friendly against Chelsea, but it don’t do so for any MLS games — including the season-opener against New York.

However, the Sounders will open a few extra sections of end zone to accommodate probably an extra 3,000 fans or so who want to attend that historic inaugural game. That should bring allow something over 27,000 fans to watch

Sounders sign Columbian defender Hurtado

The Sounders have officially announced the rumored pickup of Columbian central defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado.

Terms were not announced, and Hurtado’s signing isn’t final until his international paperwork is complete.

Before the signing was announced, we asked coach Sigi Schmid how the march to his final roster is coming along.

"In regards to the total roster they’re still some positions open and decisions we have to make,” he said. “It’s unfortunate it’s a professional sport and those decisions come a little later or sooner. Again it’s all about the players’ performance. I think we are probably

Sounders on a pristine Qwest pitch (updated)

Seattle Sounders FC is working on its home pitch at Qwest Field for the first time, and you will be happy to know that it is absolutely impossible to tell that they share the surface with the Seattle Seahawks. There is no trace of football lines. No trace of Seahawks logo.

In short, it’s beautiful.

“The field and surface was good it looks nice with only soccer lines on it,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “I know (Seahawks coach) Jim Mora might not be to happy about that right now, but
