I missed training today while heading off to Arizona with the UW basketball team.

However, FC kindly sent along some quotes from Sigi Schmid’s meeting with the media, and I’m passing along a few highlights here:

On today’s training regiment: "Today’s training we wanted to make a little bit shorter then over the last couple of days. We did a little bit of fitness at the very beginning with Dave (Tenney). Then we had a little bit of a fun that wasn’t as much running in it. And then we just wanted to work on a game where we would have to do a little bit of shifting and sliding. The reason the cones were there was that when a ball was in the middle part of the field, I wanted all the defenders in the middle part of the field, and when the ball went to the other side make sure everybody got across. So we were looking for that. And then offensively looking for them to do a better job of changing the ball. I think we have the defensive point better across then the offensive point."

On player combinations: "We’re starting to see which combinations we think are going to look better for each other. Guys are at different levels of fitness, so we’re trying to bring guys along there as well. Obviously, we want to see the 11-v-11 scrimmage, where we sort of have an idea which cuts we’re going to probably make tomorrow, and then what combinations we want to start looking at in Ventura."

On when newly acquired Patrick Ianni will join training: "Our decision was this week was to keep him working on the strengthening stuff. We’re happy with the progress he’s making, and that way he’ll be able to jump all in when we get to Ventura. We want to bring him along that way. And (Osvaldo) Alonso, like yesterday we pulled him out a little bit. Tomorrow we’ll pull him out a little bit as well. So we want to bring him along fitness wise also."
