NFL source confirms that the Seahawks will release QB Terrelle Pryor on Saturday

An NFL source with knowledge of the imminent transaction has confirmed to The News Tribune what Pro Football Talk reported earlier this evening, that the Seahawks will release quarterback Terrelle Pryor when they announce their final cuts to get to the league-mandated 53-man roster for the regular season by 1 p.m. Saturday.

The source requested anonymity because the Seahawks have not announced the move.

It means Pryor will go on league waivers, free for any of the other 31 teams to claim.

A Seahawks spokesman said on Thursday night in Oakland that there will be no announcements on any

Seahawks’ defense says it needs to “clean up little things”; Pete Carroll’s so-so assessment of Terrelle Pryor’s exhibition finale

The Seahawks arrived back to team headquarters in Renton in the middle of the night following the kind of wild, 41-31 loss at Oakland in the exhibition finale. That game proved this:

*The starting offense — particularly Russell Wilson and the passing game — couldn’t be flying higher entering Thursday’s opener against Green Bay. Eleven scores in 13 preseason drives, the empty trips between the very first drive at Denver Aug. 7 when the offensive line was missing three starters and Wilson was just running to stay upright, and last week against Chicago when Steven Hauschka had a 53-yard field

Percy Harvin not on Seahawks’ trip to Oakland because of “personal matter”; eight others will not play in exhibition finale

That above might be the most we see of Seattle’s No. 24 tonight here in Oakland.

Seahawks starters are likely for cameos and not much more in the exhibition finale beginning at 7 p.m. (Channel 13, 710 AM and 97.3 FM radio in the Puget Sound area, with our live chat beginning at 6:30 p.m. PT on thenewstribune.com/sports). And no starter plays less in the exhibition season than #24 Marshawn Lynch, who graduated from Oakland Tech High School about a 10-minute drive from the Oakland Coliseum and then played for Cal in neighboring Berkeley. His only carries of the preseason

“Game”day in Oakland. Final Seahawks jobs to be determined tonight: “There’s stuff that’s in the balance”

The starters won’t get much more than a cameo, if that, tonight in Oakland. But the Seahawks have some issues to settle behind those guys in the final exhibition game before the opener against Green Bay a week from tonight at CenturyLink Field.

“This is a big final step for us … a lot of guys with opportunities. A lot of guys battling for spots,” coach Pete Carroll said. “It’s a highly competitive final opportunity. So it’s a big deal for us.

“We are hoping to show gives and (give) them the opportunity to make this club.”

Leave it “Always

Two vs. three quarterbacks; an endorsement for Byron Maxwell; starting defense getting whole; 7 more cuts today

Ah, nothing stokes the flames of an already passionate fan base like the raging debate over whether to keep two or three quarterbacks on the regular-season roster.

That’s how smooth the Seahawks have it right now — you can knock on your proverbial slab of wood here. Their most compelling issue heading into the exhibition finale Thursday at Oakland is whether Terrelle Pryor makes the team.

The other primary issues of training camp — who will be the starting right tackle, who will be the punt returner, will Byron Maxwell nail down the cornerback job opposite Richard Sherman — have

Bobby Wagner returns to MLB as Seahawks’ starting D becoming whole; LB Heath Farwell has major injury, likely cementing job for undrafted rookie Brock Coyle

The Seahawks are done with a no-pads, helmet-only practice that went about two hours at the sunny, warm Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Bobby Wagner (above, talking after practice today) was back with the first-teamers at middle linebacker, after missing three-plus weeks with a hamstring injury.

Last week it was Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith coming back. Bruce Irvin could be back next week, coach Pete Carroll says. So the Seahawks’ starting defense is becoming whole at the right time. The opener against Green Bay is 10 days away.

Carroll says Tuesday is an important
