Pete Carroll on Marshawn Lynch’s fitness, the center competition, Kasen Williams and much more

Coach Pete Carroll thinks Marshawn Lynch is in great shape. (Here was the running back on Thursday at Seahawks minicamp, making his first appearance on the field since February’s Super Bowl):

Carroll’s not worried about settling the starting competition sooner rather than later. He’s excited to see how Kasen Williams may fit into the wide-receiver mix.

All that and more here below, the transcript of all Carroll said Thursday at the end of the Seahawks’ mandatory minicamp, their last time on the field as a team until training camp begins July 31:

Seahawks onto field for only mandatory minicamp practice day of offseason

Took a day after from this…

…to be here…

…for the Seahawks’ only day on the field of their only mandatory minicamp of this offseason. After today, the next time the team will be on the field is for the start of training camp, scheduled to be July 31.

Defensive end Michael Bennett and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin are here. Each skipped voluntary workouts this spring because they’ve been mad about money. But if they blew this off, they’d each be subject to possible team fines of $70,000 or more.

Marshawn Lynch may be inside team

Michael Bennett, Bruce Irvin present as grounded Seahawks (sort of) begin mandatory minicamp

I’m told defensive end Michael Bennett and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin are present and inside Seahawks headquarters today, the start of the team’s only mandatory minicamp of the offseason.

Bennett and Irvin had skipped voluntary organized team activities and workouts this spring. Bennett wants a raise above the four-year, $28.5 million contract he signed before last season. Irvin isn’t happy Seattle decided to not exercise his $7.8 million contract option for 2016, meaning the $1,663,935 he’ll earn for the coming ’15 season is the final one of his rookie contract.

Coach Pete Carroll has said the team wants Irvin back

Michael Bennett’s only kinda-sorta OTA protest; Paul Richardson’s progress, more from OTA practice #8

The Seahawks just finished the eighth of 10 organized-team-activity practices on the field here in Renton. How relatively casual did this one feel to the Tuesday ones I witnessed the previous two weeks?:

Sherman spoke to the media afterwards — and chuckled when asked if he’s been talking to teammate Michael Bennett, the defensive end who has skipped these voluntary practices after saying

League source confirms QB Tarvaris Jackson is expected to re-sign with Seahawks

I can confirm from a league source with knowledge of the situation that the report by Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports of Tarvaris Jackson re-signing with the Seahawks is accurate; the veteran backup to Russell Wilson is expected to sign with Seattle in the next day or so.

This coming season will be Jackson’s fourth in Seattle, the third as Wilson’s backup. Jackson went 7-7 as the Seahawks’ starter in 2011, months before the team drafted Wilson and made him a starter from game one of his rookie season.

Jackson, who turned 32 in April, visited Miami and waited for

GM John Schneider on Russell Wilson, draft, Bruce Irvin, Michael Bennett, Jimmy Graham, more

General manager John Schneider talked this afternoon at team headquarters in Renton with media members who regularly cover the Seahawks. The main topics were general and philosophical ones about the draft.

Near the end of the half hour or so I asked Schneider how he would now characterize contract negotiations with quarterback Russell Wilson. The 26-year old is coming up on the final season of his four-year rookie

Is there a part of the Seahawks curious to give UW’s Keith Price a second chance? “Yeah,” Carroll says

That was Keith Price throwing to former University of Washington teammates Kasen Williams, DiAndre Campbell, Michael Hartvigson and Jesse Callier today during UW’s packed pro day at the Dempsey Indoor facility next to Husky Stadium.

There were at least a third more NFL scouts and media types than I’ve seen at any of the multiple UW pro days I’ve attended previously. Today’s attracted far more than were at Jake Locker’s pro day a few years ago.

The latest NFL contingent at UW included Seahawks general manager John Schneider, coach Pete Carroll and most

What Chris Borland’s stunning retirement after just one year says about football, what it could (or won’t) mean

Chris Borland sure got our attention.

My pals in the Bay Area are still buzzing over the 49ers middle linebacker who started last season abruptly retiring after playing just that lone season in the NFL because of his concerns about the long-term effects of  head trauma from playing football.

This was the cover of Wednesday’s Mercury News in San Jose:

Mark Purdy, the longtime columnist with the Mercury News I last saw again
