GM John Schneider on Lynch: “I kind of love his act”; Maxwell a top offseason priority; Wilson talks coming

Seahawks general manager John Schneider talked after practice here at team headquarters in Renton today to the local media for the first time since before the draft in May.

The highlights:

–Schneider said of Marshawn Lynch: “He’s under contract for next year.” The GM called Lynch “a warrior,” adding “You’d be hard-pressed to find a better running back in the National Football League.”

After he said that, I felt compelled to ask him, “So you are not tired of ‘his act’?” That was a reference to this and other unsubstantiated report in October that the Seahawks would be getting

Seattle PD donates its bike Michael Bennett rode in celebration around CenturyLink Field to DE’s charity

The hat Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is wearing is a tribute from back home in Houston.

Last week, Bennett learned the father of a best friend who was a mentor of Bennett passed away after a battle with cancer. Bennett learned of the death of Mark Alexander a couple days before the NFC championship game, and he was emotional soon after the Seahawks’ win last weekend while discussing the death.

His mentor’s wife sent Bennett the hat, and the Seahawk said he’s going to where it all week.

Bennett said the Seattle

How’s this grab you?: A “fine” day ends with a Seahawks practice Earl Thomas misses to heal shoulder

Another practice day for All-Pro safety Earl Thomas to rest the shoulder he separated and had popped back into place last weekend as he played on in the NFC championship game. Same with right guard J.R. Sweezy. He’s been dragging the ankle he sprained in the Dec. 28 regular-season finale through the last two playoff games.

But why not relax? There are still 10 days until the Super Bowl.

It was a mighty fine day here at Seahawks headquarters.

Marshawn Lynch learned he got fined $20,000 for grabbing himself.

Sweezy got dinged $8,268 for hitting Packers linebacker Clay Matthews

Richard Sherman, as uninhibited as he’s been all season

Here’s a transcript of Richard Sherman being his most uninhibited all season today, taking on Tom Brady, the NFL for going after Marshawn Lynch for gold shoes while not expecting the league to punish the Patriots for deflated balls, and all sorts of glib comments.

As I said earlier, don’t expect such an unplugged performance next week in front of the international media mass that will swarm him hoping for more of this.

“I’m going to go cliche,” he joked.

Russell Wilson: “That’s the best game I’ve ever been in.” Yes, NFC title game had everything

That’s Russell Wilson, before he said when I asked him where this miraculous comeback in the final 2:09 and regulation to beat Green Bay 28-22 in overtime to win another NFC championship: “That’s the best game I’ve ever been in. I think it might be the best game in NFL history.”

I’ve covered Super Bowls, Rose Bowls, the World Series football national-championship games, NCAA basketball tournaments and the Olympics in the last 17 years. This Seahawks win ranks up there with being rinkside writing Canada’s amazing overtime win over the United States in the

Common to rare Seahawks losses recently: third-down generosity; Richard Sherman and a llama; expect more Marshawn Lynch

Pete Carroll doesn’t get too wrapped around statistics, other than the bottom line of the final score. But there are two stats that he plays closer attention to than others.

Turnover margin. And third-down efficiency.

In the San Diego last weekend the Chargers converted 10 of 17 third downs into first downs. That kept the Seahawks’ defense on the field for 42:15 of the game’s 60 minutes, and we all know how that turned out for Seattle.

It was just Seattle’s seventh loss in 34 regular-season and postseason games, dating to a defeat at Detroit in Week 8 of the

Kam Chancellor’s 2nd of back-to-back days a focus for Seahawks today; Hawks have NFL’s most expensive secondary-market tickets

–Back in damp, cool Renton for the Seahawks’ final practice of the training-camp portion of the preseason. Today is “family day” at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, with the players’ spouses, girlfriends and family romping around the facility and their kids playing on inflatables during practice. After today, the players — specifically, the veterans — are no longer bound to team hotels and bed checks after meetings each night. (Read here why that has been of particular import this week in the Marshawn Lynch assault accusation.) The players can go to their homes following their work days.

For instance,

Russell Wilson: “I believe God placed me in this city for a reason”

Russell Wilson and the Super Bowl? He says he was destined for it.

He told the Seattle Seahawks before Sunday’s NFC Championship game that they were there for a reason. Now with Seattle searching for its first Super Bowl in franchise history, he believes this is the team that is destined to bring it the Lombardi Trophy.

“I believe God placed me in this city for a reason,” Wilson said. “I’m going to trust that. That never wavers for me. I’m going to trust that the Lord has put me here for a reason and
