Seahawks take 4,000 tickets back from brokers; public single-game sales July 13 and 20

My story at the top of today’s News Tribune is big news for anyone who’s thought he or she was shut out from getting affordable Seahawks tickets for a regular-season game at virtually sold-out CenturyLink Field.

Put another way: You have more of a chance to buy a ticket to a real Seahawks game this coming season than you do to sold-out training camp that begins July 31:

Finally.

After years of fruitless waits, fans on the Seahawks’ long wait list for season tickets now have their chance to get into what is virtually a sold-out stadium.

I’ve learned

Seahawks sell out open training-camp practices in less than an hour — 34,000 folks

Yet another measure of how popular this team is:

This release came out just after 11 a.m. Some fans said they tried within a half hour and all dates were sold out. So safe to say spots evaporated in less than an hour.

Training camp begins July 31 in Renton. As in the past, not every practice will be open to fans.

Pete Carroll on Marshawn Lynch’s fitness, the center competition, Kasen Williams and much more

Coach Pete Carroll thinks Marshawn Lynch is in great shape. (Here was the running back on Thursday at Seahawks minicamp, making his first appearance on the field since February’s Super Bowl):

Carroll’s not worried about settling the starting competition sooner rather than later. He’s excited to see how Kasen Williams may fit into the wide-receiver mix.

All that and more here below, the transcript of all Carroll said Thursday at the end of the Seahawks’ mandatory minicamp, their last time on the field as a team until training camp begins July 31:

Russell Wilson says insurance policy “is just smart,” “hopeful” to have deal by training camp; Marshawn Lynch present but idling in minicamp

Russell Wilson confirmed that yes, he did take out a rich insurance policy against injury for the 2015 season in the event the Seahawks’ quarterback ends up playing it under only his $1.5 million base salary to end his rookie contract from 2012.

“That’s just being smart,” he said of the policy, shrugging his shoulders after the Seahawks’ only day of mandatory minicamp spent on the practice field. “If I do have to play this season (without signing-bonus cash from a new, long-term contract), that’s just being smart. That’s all that is, really.

Seahawks onto field for only mandatory minicamp practice day of offseason

Took a day after from this…

…to be here…

…for the Seahawks’ only day on the field of their only mandatory minicamp of this offseason. After today, the next time the team will be on the field is for the start of training camp, scheduled to be July 31.

Defensive end Michael Bennett and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin are here. Each skipped voluntary workouts this spring because they’ve been mad about money. But if they blew this off, they’d each be subject to possible team fines of $70,000 or more.

Marshawn Lynch may be inside team

Michael Bennett, Bruce Irvin present as grounded Seahawks (sort of) begin mandatory minicamp

I’m told defensive end Michael Bennett and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin are present and inside Seahawks headquarters today, the start of the team’s only mandatory minicamp of the offseason.

Bennett and Irvin had skipped voluntary organized team activities and workouts this spring. Bennett wants a raise above the four-year, $28.5 million contract he signed before last season. Irvin isn’t happy Seattle decided to not exercise his $7.8 million contract option for 2016, meaning the $1,663,935 he’ll earn for the coming ’15 season is the final one of his rookie contract.

Coach Pete Carroll has said the team wants Irvin back

Richard Sherman is 2nd consecutive Seahawk to win “Good Guy Award” from Pro Football Writers Association

Richard Sherman’s humor and willingness to talk about almost everything — not to mention his thoughtful answers and interest in what a reporter has to say — has earned him the league’s “Good Guy Award” for the 2014 season as voted on by members of the Pro Football Writers Association. The PFWA announced the honor Tuesday morning.

The All-Pro cornerback makes the Seahawks the first team to have winners of the award in consecutive years. Quarterback Russell Wilson won it in 2014.

Sherman will talk to you anywhere, and about anything. Remember the time I stopped him outside the

Seahawks start only mandatory minicamp–but grounded inside team HQ for 1st 2 days of it

Spending almost all this week at Chambers Bay to help cover for The News Tribune what is shaping up to be a U.S. Open unlike the previous 114 golf championships.

But Thursday I will leave the golf for a day to be back at my usual post, at Seahawks headquarters in Renton for the team’s only mandatory minicamp before training camp begins at the end of July.
