Seattle Seahawks select DE/OLB Bruce Irvin

After trading down from the No. 12 overall pick down to No. 15, the Seattle Seahawks select West Virginia defensive end/outside linebacker Bruce Irvin.

This is another surprise pick by Seattle, with guys like Quinton Coples and Melvin Ingram stlll available. Irvin was projected to go in the second round, but he was very productive at West Virginia, and he’s considered the best pure passer in the draft, similar to starting defensive end Chris Clemons.

Bengals 34, Seahawks 12: Reader Reaction Post

Well, that was ugly.

Seattle lost 34-12 to Cincinnati — a decent Bengals team, mind you — but the Seahawks looked awful in most aspects of the game.

Seattle slogged through the first half, but showed offensive life after halftime. The comeback was too little, too late. The Seahawks came close in the fourth quarter, making it a one-possession game, 17-12. But the Bengals ended Seattle’s rally with a field goal on their next drive and followed with a punt return for a touchdown.

Instant Reaction: Minnesota vs. Seahawks

Well, that was an interesting second half. Backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst carved up Minnesota’s No. 2 defense, going 10-for-11 for 79 yards and a touchdown on his first drive. Starting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson led the team to zero points and completed 11 of 21 passes for 75 yards in the first half. To be fair, Jackson faced a lot of pressure because of a porous offensive line.

Minnesota ended up winning, but no one’s talking about the score — the buzz is about Whitehurst.
