“Game”day in Oakland. Final Seahawks jobs to be determined tonight: “There’s stuff that’s in the balance”

The starters won’t get much more than a cameo, if that, tonight in Oakland. But the Seahawks have some issues to settle behind those guys in the final exhibition game before the opener against Green Bay a week from tonight at CenturyLink Field.

“This is a big final step for us … a lot of guys with opportunities. A lot of guys battling for spots,” coach Pete Carroll said. “It’s a highly competitive final opportunity. So it’s a big deal for us.

“We are hoping to show gives and (give) them the opportunity to make this club.”

Malcolm Smith 1st full practice of Seahawks preseason is like his last game–when he became Super Bowl MVP

That was some of Malcolm Smith talking following his first full work on the field with the Seahawks since February’s Super Bowl.

In this morning’s practice, Smith was almost as good as he was in last game.

This was far from being the Super Bowl’s most valuable player, of course. It was only a Tuesday morning before the third exhibition game. But what Smith did during the final, team scrimmaging exemplifies why Seattle’s defense just got a lot healthier in more ways than one with his return from ankle surgery in the spring.

“Turbo” Robert Turbin’s boost; Paul Richardson’s quick learning; Pete Carroll talking to NFL about officiating “points of emphasis”

Russell Wilson’s training-camp roommate took a huge step last night — 81 yards worth of steps in less than one half, in fact — toward becoming the Seahawks’ first option at running back behind Marshawn Lynch. But as you can see and hear above, Robert Turbin wasn’t about to claim any ground in the competition with Christine Michael to be the No. 2 runner.
