Jimmy Graham sees role as changing ways packed-in defenses play Seahawks; Stefen Wisniewski still visiting Seattle

Give Jimmy Graham credit. During the two days of flying his private plane to the gulf coast of Florida, having his career uprooted from the only team he’s known in New Orleans, having someone else fly him to the opposite corner of the country, passing a physical, meeting his new coach, general manager and Seahawks staff, seeing his new city of Seattle and then flying all the way back to Florida, he’s somehow found the time to internalize why he is the newest Seahawk.

Yesterday, on a conference call with Seattle-area reporters, the huge tight end with 171 receptions and 26 touchdowns

Jermaine Kearse: From undrafted Lakewood native and UW WR to $2,356,000 man

The Seahawks just set the cost of keeping restricted free agent Jermaine Kearse for 2015 at more than $2 million.

They also set the chances of another team signing him instead at near zero — which is close to what it was always going to be anyway.

Per Field Yates of ESPN, the Seahawks have chosen a second-round tender for their formerly undrafted wide receiver from Lakewood. That means unless another team is willing to give Seattle a second-round draft choice for Kearse — highly unlikely — plus sign him to an offer sheet the Seahawks refuse to match, Seattle

GM John Schneider on Marshawn Lynch: “I kind of love his act”; expectations on Wilson, Maxwell contracts

No, the Seahawks are not tired of Marshawn Lynch’s “act,” as two unsubstantiated national reports asserted in October.

“No,” Seattle general manager John Schneider said Friday with a wry smile, “I kind of love his act.”

Nine days before the team he and coach Pete Carroll have blown up and reconstructed in five years plays in its second consecutive Super Bowl, Schneider spoke publicly for the first time since May.

The highlights of his 16-minute chat with local beat media inside the Virginia Mason Athletic Center included:

*His opinions on Lynch, his 1,300-yard, 17-touchdown running

GM John Schneider on Lynch: “I kind of love his act”; Maxwell a top offseason priority; Wilson talks coming

Seahawks general manager John Schneider talked after practice here at team headquarters in Renton today to the local media for the first time since before the draft in May.

The highlights:

–Schneider said of Marshawn Lynch: “He’s under contract for next year.” The GM called Lynch “a warrior,” adding “You’d be hard-pressed to find a better running back in the National Football League.”

After he said that, I felt compelled to ask him, “So you are not tired of ‘his act’?” That was a reference to this and other unsubstantiated report in October that the Seahawks would be getting

Winds supposed to calm some; SEA pass rush key to NFC title game; the pick

The Seahawks and Packers woke for NFC title game day to high winds around the Seattle area; some areas got gusts up to 40 and 50 mph. But a high-wind warning for Seattle and suburbs ended at 8 a.m., and those winds are supposed to calm somewhat to 16 miles per hour from kickoff at 12:05 p.m. through much of the game.

Even the local Puget Sound Energy folks are in Seahawks game mode while advising about interruptions of service overnight:

Misty, foggy Seahawks-Panthers playoff game day in Seattle: Key matchups, and the pick

The Seahawks today are trying to become the first defending Super Bowl champion since the 2004 New England Patriots to win a playoff game in the following season. Kickoff is at 5:15 p.m. Pacific Time on Fox (Channel 13 in the Seattle-Tacoma area).

QB Russell Wilson, four times, on Seahawks’ sub-200-yard passing games: “It’s on me”

There’s a disparity beyond records and place in the NFC West standings between the Seahawks (6-4) and Cardinals (9-1), who meet in what is essentially a must-win game for Seattle on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

These two teams have vastly differing approaches to their passing games.

Despite completing only 27 more passes than the Seahawks — and despite playing mothballed journeyman backup Drew Stanton in four games with starter Carson Palmer injured and now out for the year — the Cardinals have 601 more yards passing. That’s a huge chunk more.

Why? Arizona’s

Eli Manning’s lived what Seahawks and Russell Wilson are living right now; Lane activated, Schilling to IR

Eli Manning knows what Russell Wilson and the Seahawks are slogging their way through right now

Manning’s lived it. Twice.

“Well, I think the team faces challenges because you’re always going to get everyone’s best,” the two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback of the Giants said before New York (3-5) arrived in Seattle for Sunday’s game against the defending-champion Seahawks (5-3).

“Everyone wants to go up against the most recent Super Bowl champion,” Manning said Wednesday from Giants’ headquarters. “So you can lose a few guys, have high expectations, and a lot of things can be asked of
