Cliff Avril glad docs kept him out of Super Bowl’s final quarter: “Concussions aren’t anything to play with”

The Seahawks were on their way to enjoying a double-digit lead in Super Bowl 49. They were getting to quarterback Tom Brady enough to keep him and New England stuck on 14 points late into the third quarter of the Feb. 1 championship game.

Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn moved Michael Bennett inside from end to a tackle position for much of the game, and Bennett sped past New England’s rookie center Bryan Stork all night. Bennett had four hits on Brady. And the speed of fellow defensive end Cliff Avril coming off the other edge kept New England from totally

Pete Carroll on Marshawn Lynch’s fitness, the center competition, Kasen Williams and much more

Coach Pete Carroll thinks Marshawn Lynch is in great shape. (Here was the running back on Thursday at Seahawks minicamp, making his first appearance on the field since February’s Super Bowl):

Carroll’s not worried about settling the starting competition sooner rather than later. He’s excited to see how Kasen Williams may fit into the wide-receiver mix.

All that and more here below, the transcript of all Carroll said Thursday at the end of the Seahawks’ mandatory minicamp, their last time on the field as a team until training camp begins July 31:

Russell Wilson says insurance policy “is just smart,” “hopeful” to have deal by training camp; Marshawn Lynch present but idling in minicamp

Russell Wilson confirmed that yes, he did take out a rich insurance policy against injury for the 2015 season in the event the Seahawks’ quarterback ends up playing it under only his $1.5 million base salary to end his rookie contract from 2012.

“That’s just being smart,” he said of the policy, shrugging his shoulders after the Seahawks’ only day of mandatory minicamp spent on the practice field. “If I do have to play this season (without signing-bonus cash from a new, long-term contract), that’s just being smart. That’s all that is, really.

Seahawks onto field for only mandatory minicamp practice day of offseason

Took a day after from this…

…to be here…

…for the Seahawks’ only day on the field of their only mandatory minicamp of this offseason. After today, the next time the team will be on the field is for the start of training camp, scheduled to be July 31.

Defensive end Michael Bennett and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin are here. Each skipped voluntary workouts this spring because they’ve been mad about money. But if they blew this off, they’d each be subject to possible team fines of $70,000 or more.

Marshawn Lynch may be inside team

Michael Bennett, Bruce Irvin present as grounded Seahawks (sort of) begin mandatory minicamp

I’m told defensive end Michael Bennett and outside linebacker Bruce Irvin are present and inside Seahawks headquarters today, the start of the team’s only mandatory minicamp of the offseason.

Bennett and Irvin had skipped voluntary organized team activities and workouts this spring. Bennett wants a raise above the four-year, $28.5 million contract he signed before last season. Irvin isn’t happy Seattle decided to not exercise his $7.8 million contract option for 2016, meaning the $1,663,935 he’ll earn for the coming ’15 season is the final one of his rookie contract.

Coach Pete Carroll has said the team wants Irvin back

Seahawks start only mandatory minicamp–but grounded inside team HQ for 1st 2 days of it

Spending almost all this week at Chambers Bay to help cover for The News Tribune what is shaping up to be a U.S. Open unlike the previous 114 golf championships.

But Thursday I will leave the golf for a day to be back at my usual post, at Seahawks headquarters in Renton for the team’s only mandatory minicamp before training camp begins at the end of July.

Russell Wilson on Seahawks contract: “I believe it’s going to work out. I want to be here for a long time.”

Russell Wilson says he hopes to sign a new contract that will keep him with the Seahawks for “a long time.” He says nothing has discouraged him from believing that will happen.

The agent for the two-time Super Bowl quarterback said last week he is “optimistic” he can get that deal done.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider, the man heading the negotiations, has said how much the franchise wants Wilson for the long term.

Coach Pete Carroll went even longer-term last month, saying: “We are so excited about getting Russell (an extension) and

Veterans back on the field Tuesday for the first time since Super Bowl 49

The Seahawks’ veterans had voluntary workouts at team headquarters last month. But those were just in the weight room and training room.

The vets are due on the field Tuesday morning for the first time since Super Bowl 49 (above), to take part in organized team activities. It’s the next phase of their offseason workout program as defined by the league’s collective bargaining agreement.

Russell Wilson is expected to be throwing to newly acquired tight end Jimmy Graham for the first time as Seahawks with coaches watching (the players worked out informally last month on their own on Maui).
