Rare practice miss, “mental reps” for Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman full go 11 days before Super Bowl

After both All-Pros got hurt but kept playing in last weekend’s NFC championship game, it looked like Richard Sherman’s elbow would limit him this week more than Earl Thomas’ shoulder would. I mean, Sherman couldn’t even lift his left arm above his hip.

But three days later the opposite is true. Thomas sat out practice today while Sherman was full go.

Thomas has played in all 82 games since he arrived in the NFL as the Seahawks’ first-round draft choice in 2010. So even though he missed a practice for one of the only times of his career today

Pete Carroll on Seahawks’ final 3 games to win NFC West: “As good as it gets in the NFL”

With the dumping rains subsiding the Seahawks were outside for practice this afternoon for the first time this week. After it, coach Pete Carroll, quarterback Russell Wilson, safety Kam Chancellor and running back Christine Michael were among the players and coaches who stopped to sign autographs and pose for pictures on the edge of the practice fields here in Renton with participants in the Seattle-area Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Carroll then talked about the task ahead: win all the final regular-season games against division rivals San Francisco (Sunday at home), at Arizona and home to

Pete Carroll hopes to joke, visit with Mark Sanchez before Sunday’s game; lightest Seahawks injury list in weeks

I asked coach Pete Carroll before the team left for Philadelphia immediately following this afternoon’s indoor practice if he is going to make a point to visit with his former quarterback at USC Mark Sanchez before Sanchez quarterbacks the Eagles against the Seahawks on Sunday, or after the game, to say “Hi” or …

“Punch him?” Carroll joked. “No, he may give me a shot in the ribs or something.

“I hope so. I hope to see him — he and Matt,” Carroll said of the other former QB of his with SC

Russell Wilson turns 26, meets Stevie Wonder, attends Grey Cup–and considered playing for Chip Kelly at Oregon

Russell Wilson’s had a great few days since his 26th birthday on Saturday.

Last weekend the Seahawks had four days off following their Thanksgiving-night win at San Francisco. Wilson and teammate Russell Okung went to Vancouver and attended the Grey Cup, the championship game of the Canadian Football League, on Sunday.

He and Okung got the red-carpet treatment from the CFL. They met players from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Calgary Roughriders before the game, sat in a suite to watch it and posed for pictures with the league’s commissioner, as I detailed in the post earlier today.

“I think

What’s this? Seahawks’ injury reports shows … health?

Today’s injury report shows, of all things, health — at precisely the crunch time of the season the Seahawks could use a few starters returning from injury.

Only four guys didn’t practice today, down from seven yesterday.

For Lynch, it’s the same as the last two weeks. Out from practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He’s rushed for 264 yards and four touchdowns on the last two weekends.

This was the first full day of practicing for Wagner since he got the turf-toe ligament tear and broke a sesamoid bone in a foot tendon Oct. 12 against Dallas. All-Pro safety

Seahawks list Marshawn Lynch as questionable for KC, though sounds like he’ll start as usual

The mildly surprising entry is Lynch, who practiced for the first time this week today, as questionable for Sunday’s game at Kansas City. That is somewhat counter to what Pete Carroll said when I asked the coach following the light indoor practice that just ended here in Renton if the Seahawks are merely maintaining the bullish running back’s health by limiting him in practices this week or if some new injuries have appeared.

“He’s just banged up,” Carroll said. “In years past we’ve always given him a lot of consideration to get him right. And he’s worked hard to make

S Kam Chancellor missing game for 3rd time in NFL career, G Carpenter also out for Seahawks vs NYG

Kam Chancellor is missing his second consecutive game, and just the third game of his five-year career, today as the Seahawks get ready to kick off against the New York Giants.

Chancellor missed the entire week with a groin injury on top of the bone spurs in his ankles. The thudding strong safety also missed last week’s win over Oakland. He is a key to Seattle’s run defense, with huge hits near the line of scrimmage, but the Giants haven’t been running much or well lately.

Jeron Johnson will make the first start of his four-year career today, for Chancellor.
