NFC West at the combine: 49ers GM says he wants Gore back; Cardinals bring back WR Larry Fitzgerald

San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke just spoke at a podium here in the stadium lobby at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. Two things he said of note to the NFC West and the Seahawks in particular.

*He praised quarterback Colin Kaepernick for how diligently and hard he is working this winter in Arizona with former NFL MVP Kurt Warner on the mechanics of the position such as footwork, arm angles of different passes plus throwing with more balance and versatility in the pocket. The 49ers GM used the word “dedicated” to describe Kaepernick’s work this offseason.

Kam Chancellor: “Yeah, I can get up there”; early primers on Seahawks-Packers for NFC title

Kam Chancellor prides himself on his basketball skills. He showed them Saturday night against Carolina when he astoundingly leaped completely over the field-goal snapper — twice.

Playoff opening day arrives — with the Seahawks at home watching, assistant coaches interviewing

Russell Wilson will try to watch today like you and me. But of course he won’t.

“It’s hard for me just to sit there and watch the games as a fan or anything like that: I play that quarterback position in my head,” the Seahawks’ quarterback said before his NFC West champions and top conference seed this postseason got Friday through Sunday off to watch the start of the playoffs. “But that will be good to watch.”
