Most return to team headquarters for phase 1 of offseason workouts–but not Michael Bennett

The Seahawks were back at team headquarters in Renton today for the first time since packing up to leave it Feb. 3, two days after the Super Bowl. They are beginning the voluntary phase one of their offseason workout program.

Tight end Cooper Helfet sounded excited about it:

Yet these sessions are as low-key as it gets. No on-field work. No media access. They are officially voluntary workouts that the league’s

How a TV cartoon in a Bellevue hotel room 5 years ago bonded a secondary, a defense — and a team

The bonding of a championship team, the meshing in the middle of what has become among the top NFL defenses of the last 40 years, didn’t begin on a practice field.

It wasn’t hatched in a draft room or at the NFL combine. Or even in any games.

It began over a 2010 episode of “Family Guy” inside a hotel room in Bellevue.

Pete Carroll was in his first spring as Seahawks coach. Even though Seattle had veteran Lawyer Milloy at safety that season, Carroll and his staff knew that would be the last of Milloy’s 15 seasons in the

Carroll: 1st-down-making TE Tony Moeaki (calf) a game-time decision for Seahawks Saturday vs. Carolina

Pete Carroll said following today’s indoor practice that tight end Tony Moeaki has a “very slight strain” of his calf and will be a game-time decision to play Saturday in the Seahawks’ NFC divisional playoff game against Carolina. Carroll said Moeaki, the midseason pickup whose last four catches have been for first downs, injured his calf in practice Tuesday.

“We’re going to find out on game day,” Carroll said. “Cooper Helfet (the third tight end) is ready to go, if we need him.”

Carroll said Max Unger came out of the week

Three-fifths of Seahawks’ starting line misses practice, 4 days before Arizona’s blitzing resumes

I wouldn’t sound alarms just yet, but, yes, three-fifths of Seattle’s starting offensive line didn’t practice today.

RG J.R. Sweezy spent much of last weekend’s win over the 49ers seeming to drag his leg behind him after someone fell on it during a play. Wednesday he did not practice with what the team listed as an ankle injury.

As for two-time Pro Bowl C Max Unger, coach Pete Carroll said the twisted knee and high-ankle sprain that has kept Unger out the last four games didn’t respond well to him practicing on a limited basis last week.

Study time for a Seahawks defense that’s been having more fun than kids at recess lately

Now it’s study time for a Seahawks’ defense that has been rampaging carefree as if it’s been out at recess.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians announced Monday that third-year veteran fill-in Ryan Lindley will make his fifth career start and first since Dec. 23, 2012, on Sunday night when Arizona (11-3) hosts Seattle (10-4) in what is essentially the NFC West championship game, the next-to-last one in the regular season.

Arians also said the Cardinals are preparing a package of plays this week for rookie fourth-round draft choice Logan Thomas.

The Cardinals lost starter

Pete Carroll hopes to joke, visit with Mark Sanchez before Sunday’s game; lightest Seahawks injury list in weeks

I asked coach Pete Carroll before the team left for Philadelphia immediately following this afternoon’s indoor practice if he is going to make a point to visit with his former quarterback at USC Mark Sanchez before Sanchez quarterbacks the Eagles against the Seahawks on Sunday, or after the game, to say “Hi” or …

“Punch him?” Carroll joked. “No, he may give me a shot in the ribs or something.

“I hope so. I hope to see him — he and Matt,” Carroll said of the other former QB of his with SC

The rapid rise of Tony Moeaki; Pete Carroll won’t hint on Seahawks’ imminent roster addition

Look at tight end Tony Moeaki on this list of snap counts from the Seahawks’ win at San Francisco.

Less than a month ago the former rookie starter with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010 was home, unsigned as a free agent living off an injury settlement Buffalo had given him after the Bills put him on injured reserve at the end of the summer. Now he is getting 63 percent of the snaps on the offense of the surging Super Bowl champions in a huge game at

Pete Carroll loves his owner and GM, CB Loucheiz Purifoy fails Seahawks waiver physical

The news of the day is cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy, the rookie cornerback claimed by the Seahawks off waivers from Indianapolis on Friday, failed his physical and thus Seattle has waived him. That leaves the Seahawks with an open roster spot. Coach Pete Carroll said the team is having ongoing discussions on how to fill it and which position group to bolster before Sunday’s game at Philadelphia.

The reason linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis went on injured reserve Saturday to end his rookie season is because he is having shoulder surgery to repair damage to his
