Tight end Kellen Winslow said he’s ready for a fresh start after the trade from Tampa Bay, as he practiced with his new team this week at the VMAC.

First reported by Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange, the Seattle Seahawks confirmed that offensive lineman Allen Barbre has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

Barbre is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games. He’s under contract through the 2012 season and is scheduled to make $700,000 in base salary.

Barbre was brought back to Seattle’s active roster midway through last season. The team likes his versatility, and Barbre was expected to compete for a roster spot as a depth guy at both offensive guard …

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com provides an update on the beginning of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) at the VMAC this week.

OTAs began on Tuesday, but the practice will not be open to reporters not employed by the team until Thursday.

Farnsworth notes that this is the first time the offense and defense can go against each other in a practice setting.

“The first one, it’s still a rush,” Seattle linebacker Leroy Hill said. “It was good to put on the helmets and get out and go against an offense.”

Gary Shelton of the Tampa Bay Times writes that with the arrival of the intense Greg Schiano as the head coach at Tampa Bay, Kellen Winslow was no longer a good fit for the Bucs.

Hawks trade for TE Kellen Winslow Jr.

The Seattle Seahawks confirmed this evening that the team has consummated a trade for Tampa Bay tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.

According to the team, Seattle gave up a conditional draft pick in 2013 to obtain Winslow.

UPDATE: ESPN’s Mike Sando reports Seattle gave up a seventh rounder that could be upgraded to a sixth rounder.

Winslow was asked by the Buccaneers not attend Organized Team Activities in Tampa Bay this week as the team worked to move him in a trade.

Winslow has three years remaining on his current contract and is due to make $3.3 million …

Just call Russell Wilson the incredible shrinking man.

At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis the Wisconsin product measured in at 5-foot-10 and 5/8 inches. So you think you would round up, right? But most folks are referring to Wilson as 5-10 instead of 5-11.

So by the end of this season Wilson will be 5-9 and headed toward Spud Webb territory.

Receiver Doug Baldwin and free safety Earl Thomas were made available to reporters after the Seattle Seahawks conditioning workout this morning.

The Seahawks went through drills for about 45 minutes outside at the VMAC.

In my story today, University of Montana defensive back Donny Lisowski wowed Seattle head coach Pete Carroll during the team’s rookie minicamp last week, earning a three-year contract and a spot on the team’s 90-man roster.

Now, Lisowski’s looking to do enough to make it to training camp, with the hop of landing on the team’s final roster for the regular season.
