What did you expect Michael Bennett to say now about Jimmy Graham? An apology?

Really, what did you expect Michael Bennett to say?

Yesterday when I wrote about the Seahawks’ funny, glib — outspoken, actually — defensive end and his comments on 710 ESPN radio in Seattle I purposely didn’t include what he said about newly acquired tight end Jimmy Graham. It didn’t one bit surprise me, so I judged it would be (re)stating the obvious.

Bennett, you recall, jawed with Bennett before and throughout a January 2014 playoff game then said this after Seattle beat then-Graham’s New Orleans Saints that day en route to the Seahawks’ first Super Bowl championship: “Nobody likes

Michael Bennett says he never asked for a trade: “They made rumors about Jesus, they’ll make rumors about anybody”

On Seattle’s 710 ESPN radio this morning, defensive end Michael Bennett dismissed a report from the Cowboys’ beat writer for the Fort Worth Star Telegram rumoring Bennett wants traded from the Seahawks to Atlanta because he’s unhappy with his contract.

And he did it in a way only Bennett does.

“Man, they made rumors about Jesus, they’ll make rumors about anybody,” Bennett said on the “Justin and Gee” show, his voice rising in its familiar, semi-incredulous way.

Asked a second time a few minutes later about the rumor he isn’t happy with a Seahawks contract that will pay him $6 million guaranteed

Pete Carroll on KJR radio: he still gets awakened by Super Bowl; Earl Thomas “absolutely” will be ready for season

Credit host Dave Mahler for going beyond the primary news of the Seahawks’ week — the stunning trade to acquire premier tight end Jimmy Graham from New Orleans, the signing of Cary Williams to likely replace Byron Maxwell as a starting cornerback — and asking a checklist full of roster questions and follow-ups from post-Super Bowl issues to coach Pete Carroll today. The question-and-answer session aired live this afternoon on Mahler’s show on Seattle’s 950 KJR radio.

Here are the highlights of what Carroll said:

–All-Pro safety Earl Thomas “absolutely” will be ready for the start of the regular season

Still buzzing over Jimmy Graham; more on salary cap, Lynch deal + Wilson, Wagner extension talks

On the day after the trade that surprised the league, and there is still a buzz around the team for getting New Orleans’ 2013 All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham.

“It’s a big deal for us, everybody in this building,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said this morning from the team’s Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton on Seattle’s 710 ESPN radio.

“He makes everybody better.”

Schneider told the station Graham was chillin’ on a beach on the west  coast of Florida yesterday when he got call of trade that also nets Seattle a fourth-round choice in next month’s draft from New Orleans

GM Schneider says Seahawks, Russell Wilson thinking “outside the box” on new contract

Is Russell Wilson so much of a team player that he will sacrifice some of his new money to keep the franchise reloading for a Seahawks run at a third consecutive Super Bowl?

Seattle general manager John Schneider raised the possibility today of the quarterback accepting something of a “hometown discount” below the $20 million plus per season most have assumed the only quarterback to start two Super Bowls in the first three seasons of a career is about to get. The GM confirmed he and Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, are already in negotiations on a new deal; his rookie one scheduled to pay

Will Marshawn Lynch retire this offseason instead of getting a new Seahawks deal?

Seahawks general manager John Schneider was on the Brock and Salk morning show on Seattle’s 710 ESPN radio today talking a lot about Marshawn Lynch.

As he said to us Seahawks beat reporters a couple weeks ago, Schneider reiterated how huge the 1,500-yard, 19-touchdown running back is to the Seahawks’ plans for the 2015 season and foreseeable future.

“Obviously, we think he’s a hell of a player. We want to have him back. He knows that. His representatives know that,” Schneider said today. “He knows that if he’s back he’s not going to be playing at the same

The Marshawn Lynch these Seahawks know is just having his own fun with everyone else

The Marshawn Lynch the Seahawks know is not the one the rest of America sees and hears. It’s not the Lynch that’s likely to have another standoff of some kind with establishment tomorrow here at the annual circus called the Super Bowl’s media day.

“Yeah, I think a lot of people misunderstand Marshawn,” teammate and safety Kam Chancellor said today at the Arizona Grand Resort, following the Seahawks’ first practice of Super Bowl week at Arizona State University in neighboring Tempe. “Just because he doesn’t want to talk to the media doesn’t make

Praising DE O’Brien Schofield and S Jeron Johnson, Russell Wilson’s two words of advice for Johnny Manziel; Earl Thomas the punt returner

Malcolm Smith was all the rage yesterday at practice, his first full one since surgery in the spring to clean out his ankle. His twisting, leaping, one-armed interception was remarkable — even for a Tuesday in August — and that is what I lead with in today’s News Tribune.

–The notebook story details the NFL’s new rules on practice squads, highlighted by them now being 10-man squads instead of eight. Honestly, I’m still working through the permutations of the new rule and trying to apply them to which Seahawks may now be practice-squad eligible that weren’t before Tuesday.
