Earliest kickoff in CenturyLink Field history on Sunday. Here’s why:

The question I’ve gotten more often this week than “Why do you like Ohio State?” (born and raised there, wife and sister went there, etc) has been: Why does the Seahawks-Packers NFC championship game begin at 12:05 p.m. Pacific Time while the East Coast Colts-Patriots game starts at 3:30 Pacific? Can’t they just switch and put the later game in the later time zone?

Well, no.

While it may be inconvenient to your tailgating to begin it Sunday morning when you are usually sleeping, the NFL’s multi-zillion television contracts with the networks mandate that CBS and Fox each get a

Misty, foggy Seahawks-Panthers playoff game day in Seattle: Key matchups, and the pick

The Seahawks today are trying to become the first defending Super Bowl champion since the 2004 New England Patriots to win a playoff game in the following season. Kickoff is at 5:15 p.m. Pacific Time on Fox (Channel 13 in the Seattle-Tacoma area).

Reminder: Join colleagues Dave Boling and Kenny Via and me with Seahawks fans around the world for the live game chat from the press box at CenturyLink Field beginning around 4:45 p.m. PT here on the blog.

If you missed it (shame on you!), here’s Mike Wagner, safety on Pittsburgh’s “Steel Curtain” defenses that won four Super

Numbers say this is the best three-game stretch for the Seahawks’ thumping defense since 2004

Tharold Simon makes it big in Philly:

Earl Thomas expected this.

Michael Bennett didn’t. He says the Seahawks didn’t expect to give up 139 yards at Philadelphia yesterday. How many did the defensive end figured they’d allow the Eagles?

“Zero yards,” Bennett said, without smiling.

“We don’t expect anyone to make a yard. That’s just the way we are.

“I don’t think anything’s changed. I think this is

Seahawks’ key to beating the Giants today: Run well on early downs with Marshawn Lynch

Russell Wilson was “mic’d up” on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown show this morning. At one point after an errant throw in his 17-for-35 passing day — only his sixth sub-.500 game of his career — Wilson is shown on the Seahawks’ bench asking offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell “What am I doing wrong?”

–For those not in the Seattle area game day here has dawned wet with off-and-on rain. The forecast for this afternoon at CenturyLink Field is temperatures in the mid-50s with a 50-80-percent chance of rain showers beginning during the game’s second half, much like last weekend’s home win

Seahawks postgame quotables: Russell Wilson, Golden Tate, Sidney Rice, Richard Sherman and more

(opening… ) No place like home.

(On getting pressure on him, and then making adjustments…) That was a huge win for us.  They did some great things on defense, they disguised some things and we’re just salvaging the play, just trusting what we’ve been working on, and luckily in the second half, we put some things together and made some plays, got protected long enough to make some plays, and guys made some great catches and Golden Tate’s throw and Sidney beating that defender on a seam route, that was a beautiful job by

A few programming notes: Monday Morning QB chat at 3 p.m.

I just got in from Chicago and arrived at the VMAC. The players will have an exit meeting and will be available about 12:30 p.m. today, so we’ll have some reaction players on this season.

That pushes our regular Monday Morning QB chat to 3 p.m. today. Sorry for the adjustment, but we don’t have time for the chat right now with the players available shortly. Thanks for your patience and we’ll talk soon.

Also, according to the team, tight end John Carlson and cornerback Marcus Trufant checked out of a Chicago hospital after being treated for serious concussions

Trufant gets player of week honors

Make it two straight NFC player of the week honors for the Seattle Seahawks.

On Wednesday, Marcus Trufant was selected for his three-interception game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Last week, Lofa Tatupu won the honor for his three-interception game against the Philadelphia Eagles. it marks the first time in team history the Seahawks have recorded back-to-back three-interception games. The last time a pair of teammates had three interceptions in consecutive games was in 1962 when the Buffalo Bills’ Marv Matuszak and Carl Charon did it.

Trufant also had six tackles and scored on an 84-yard return-touchdown
