Carroll says Obomanu ready to play

The one question mark for the Seattle Seahawks in terms of injuries was the status of receiver Ben Obomanu heading into Sunday’s game against Arizona.

But after taking most the week off, Obomanu eased coach Pete Carroll’s concerns by making it through the team’s 90-minute workout today without any issues with his strained knee.

“He ran well today,” Carroll said. “He looked fine.”

If Obomanu can play, the Seahawks should have five receivers available on Sunday. Obomanu would start at split end, and Golden Tate would start at flanker.

Jackson says surgery not needed to repair injured pectoral muscle

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson said that even though his team is no longer in the playoff hunt, there’s still plenty to play for against Arizona in the final game of the season on Sunday.

“The record doesn’t show it because we’re a 7-8 team,” Jackson said. “But I feel like we’re a better team this year, and it’d be good for the record to show that, too. I feel like we improved a lot throughout the whole season. So it’d be nice to end at .500 instead of a losing record.”

Hawthorne, Obomanu miss practice; Cable not concerned about job offers

Seattle Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne and receiver Ben Obomanu did not practice today because of knee issues, as the team practiced inside in jerseys, sweats and no helmets.

Baldwin misses practice with ankle injury

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that receiver Doug Baldwin, who missed practice today with an ankle issue, is expected to be ready for Saturday’s game against San Francisco.

Baldwin tweaked his ankle midway through practice on Thursday.

“He couldn’t practice today, so we’re going to rest him until the weekend,” Carroll said. “He just turned his ankle a little bit yesterday, but we think he’s going to make it. He’ll be all right.”

Defensive ends Brock, Bryant do not practice

Seattle Seahawks defensive ends Raheem Brock and Red Bryant were among players who did not practice with the team today, as head coach Pete Carroll put his players through a 90-minute workout in helmets and shells outside on the practice field.

Brock was excused to appear in King County District Court for a DUI Charge stemming from an arrest in November of last year. Brock pled not guilty and has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Feb. 6.

Harbaugh on Doug Baldwin: “I should have drafted him.”

San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh talked about his former players at Stanford, cornerback Richard Sherman and receiver Doug Baldwin.

Harbaugh said he made a mistake in not taking Baldwin in the draft. The Niners drafted USC receiver Ronald Johnson in the sixth round instead, who’s no longer with the team.

“Well, I should have drafted him,” Harbaugh said. “Yeah, I’m kicking myself for not doing that. And at the same time I’m really, really happy for Doug. I’ve watched him this whole year whenever we’re watching crossover tape. Or I’ve sometimes put on the tape, just to watch him and Richard. And I’ve seen him really grow the whole season.”

On Sherman’s transition from receiver to cornerback his junior season at Stanford, Harbaugh said that Sherman initiated the move.

Bevell on receivers: Size doesn’t matter

Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell addressed the juggling that will take place at receiver with Mike Williams done for the season after ankle surgery today.

Ben Obomanu will take Williams’ place in the starting lineup, although he’s already been playing significant snaps during the game as a reserve. Tate will continue to start at flanker. Along with those two, Doug Baldwin, Deon Butler and Ricardo Lockette will carry the collective load for the receiving group.

Bevell said the group offers some versatility.

Hawks healthy heading into Chicago game

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll indicated after today’s practice that his team will be healthy for the most part as they travel to Chicago this afternoon.

Along with those players, cornerback Kennard Cox (hamstring), linebacker Leroy Hill (neck), quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (pectoral), receiver Doug Baldwin (ankle) and linebacker David Hawthorne (knee) are probable.

Carroll said that King is the only player who will be listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.
