Cliff Avril glad docs kept him out of Super Bowl’s final quarter: “Concussions aren’t anything to play with”

The Seahawks were on their way to enjoying a double-digit lead in Super Bowl 49. They were getting to quarterback Tom Brady enough to keep him and New England stuck on 14 points late into the third quarter of the Feb. 1 championship game.

Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn moved Michael Bennett inside from end to a tackle position for much of the game, and Bennett sped past New England’s rookie center Bryan Stork all night. Bennett had four hits on Brady. And the speed of fellow defensive end Cliff Avril coming off the other edge kept New England from totally

Russell Wilson on Jimmy Kimmel Live: “I just want to be paid based off my play. It will all work out in the end. We’ll figure it out”

Russell Wilson’s stalled contract negotiations have become such a big story 29 days before training camp begins the star player is now going on late-night talk shows — and his agent is getting almost as much pub as the Seahawks’ two-time Super Bowl quarterback.

The day before Wilson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live late Thursday, Mark Rodgers’ home-base newspaper, the Vero Beach Press Journal in Florida, published a profile on him. It detailed how the baseball agent got back into representing NFL clients — and how he views negotiating contracts in the two sports.

“It’s so different in football,” Rodgers said to the paper

One month until Seahawks training camp–and, no, nothing new on Russell Wilson contract talks

This last day of June means it’s exactly one month before the Seahawks begin their 2015 preseason with the beginning of training camp at team headquarters in Renton.

One month for Seattle and its negotiators led by general manager John Schneider to make progress toward — or, hey, actually get — an agreement on a contract extension for quarterback Russell Wilson.

Then again, coach Pete Carroll said this month the Seahawks don’t consider the start of training camp July 31 to be a deadline because they are willing to negotiate well into and through the season, if necessary; this deal is that

Richard Sherman is 2nd consecutive Seahawk to win “Good Guy Award” from Pro Football Writers Association

Richard Sherman’s humor and willingness to talk about almost everything — not to mention his thoughtful answers and interest in what a reporter has to say — has earned him the league’s “Good Guy Award” for the 2014 season as voted on by members of the Pro Football Writers Association. The PFWA announced the honor Tuesday morning.

The All-Pro cornerback makes the Seahawks the first team to have winners of the award in consecutive years. Quarterback Russell Wilson won it in 2014.

Sherman will talk to you anywhere, and about anything. Remember the time I stopped him outside the

League source confirms QB Tarvaris Jackson is expected to re-sign with Seahawks

I can confirm from a league source with knowledge of the situation that the report by Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports of Tarvaris Jackson re-signing with the Seahawks is accurate; the veteran backup to Russell Wilson is expected to sign with Seattle in the next day or so.

This coming season will be Jackson’s fourth in Seattle, the third as Wilson’s backup. Jackson went 7-7 as the Seahawks’ starter in 2011, months before the team drafted Wilson and made him a starter from game one of his rookie season.

Jackson, who turned 32 in April, visited Miami and waited for

Seahawks enter third week of OTAs on the field, Bobby Wagner contract talks off it

The Seahawks today continue their third week of organized team activities on the field in Renton, the last before their only mandatory minicamp of the offseason next week. I’ll be there to

update what’s going on.

Off the field, the team is reportedly moving on to its second offseason priority in contract negotiations: All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner.

With talks on an extension with the agent for quarterback Russell Wilson remaining slowed — here’s another guess at what the hangups may be and where they could end up — Seattle has seven weeks to perhaps get at least one of

Another day, another Bruce Irvin assertion on where he wants to play

Fun from this early-summer weekend:

By now, you know the deal: The Seahawks this spring declined to exercise the $7.8 million option that would have added a fifth year to Irvin’s rookie contract, for the 2016 season. That means, as of now, Irvin can become an unrestricted free agent following the 2015 season.

The team would prefer it not get that far. Seattle hopes to sign its
