The Seattle Seahawks leading receiver could be out for this weekend’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Okung done for the year with torn pectoral muscle

The Seattle Seahawks confirmed an earlier report buy ESPN’s Adam Schefter that an MRI test concluded that offensive tackle Russell Okung has a torn pectoral muscle on the right side of his body, ending his season.

Torn pectoral muscles generally require surgery and a four-to-six month recovery period.

So three-fifths of Seattle starting offensive line is now done for the year, with rookies James Carpenter and John Moffitt being placed on the season-ending injured reserve with knee injuries earlier this season.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said that Paul McQuistan is a possibility to move over and play left tackle, with Lemuel Jeanpierre filling in at right guard, but the team also will consider other options.

This is the second straight season that Okung has missed time because of injuries. Okung missed six games total last year because of high ankle sprains on his right and left leg, and also suffered an ankle injury during the preseason this year.

Carpenter has torn ACL

First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle James Carpenter’s MRI evaluation revealed he has a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee and is done for year.

So in a time span of four days the Seahawks have lost the future right side of the offensive line, with rookie right guard being placed on the injured reserve list earlier this week because of an MCL and PCL tear in his right knee. T

Making matters worse is that fact that because of how late in the season both players suffered the knee injuries,

Moffitt placed on IR

The Seahawks placed rookie offensive guard John Moffitt on the season-ending, injured reserve on Tuesday with a knee injury that requires surgery.

And with a vacant roster spot, Seattle added offensive lineman Paul Fanaika. The Arizona State University product went to training camp with Seattle and began the year on the practice squad, but the Seahawks cut him loose last week to add receiver Patrick Williams.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll indicated earlier this week that Lemuel Jeanpierre and Paul McQuistan would get first crack at replacing Moffitt, but Fanaika also played some right guard during exhibition play.

Curry on demotion “I’m at peace.”

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry talked to reporters this afternoon about his recent demotion to second-team, outside linebacker. After being frustrated with the team’s decision last week, Curry said he’s accepted his fate, but still will continue to work hard to get back out on the field.

“I’m at peace,” he said. “I have a complete piece of mind right now. I’m feeling blessed. I’m taking this trial that I have and just capitalizing on it.

“Frustration was last week. I was a little caught off guard, so of course naturally my response was just to be frustrated. But I’m so at peace right now. I don’t know how to explain it to you.”

A medical perspective on Sidney Rice’s injury

With Seattle Seahawks receiver Sidney Rice’s damaged labrum in his shoulder a hot topic this week, I thought it would be good to reach out and talk to someone who could shed some light on how athletes with similar injuries deal with this situation.

So I spoke with Dr. Alexis Colvin, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics with The Mount Sinai Department of Orthopaedics in New York.

Wednesday injury report: Rice, Gallery still out

Seattle Seahawks experiment along the offensive line could become a reality come Sunday.

For a second straight day, rookie James Carpenter worked at left guard next to offensive tackle Russell Okung, with fourth-year pro Breno Giacomini taking Carpenter’s spot at right tackle.

Usual starting left guard Robert Gallery watched for a second straight day from the sidelines, working with Carpenter on technique when he wasn’t on the field.

Receiver Sidney Rice (shoulder) did not practice for a second straight day, with Ben Obomanu working with the first unit.

Gallery, Rice and offensive tackle Jarriel King (ankle) were listed as not practicing on today’s official injury report.

Hawks announce Tatupu has surgery on both knees

The Seattle Seahawks announced this afternoon that linebacker Lofa Tatupu had successful surgery on both knees today.

Team doctors Ed Khalfayan and Mike McAdam handled the procedure at Seattle Surgery Center.

Tatupu had been regularly taking practices off throughout the season to rest his ailing knees. This is the second season the veteran linebacker has needed surgery. Last year the 28-year-old’s season was cut short because of a torn left pectoral muscle and only played in five games last year.

The Seahawks also announced the signing of defensive tackle Jay Alford, safety James Brindley and wide receiver Chris
