LB Aaron Curry demoted in favor of K.J. Wright

The Seattle Seahawks’ brass finally ran out of patience with linebacker Aaron Curry.

The Wake Forest product and the No. 4 overall pick in the draft three years ago confirmed that his role has changed, and he has been demoted to second team on the depth chart at outside linebacker, with rookie K.J. Wright working with the first unit during practice this week.

“I don’t even know how to put it into words,” Curry said. “But it is what it is. … Everything happens for a reason. There’s a purpose behind everything, and I’ll find it and learn from it and take off running.”

The move comes after Curry, 25, struggled against Pittsburgh last week, dropping an interception in pass coverage with his team down 7-0 in the second quarter that potentially could have been returned for a touchdown.

Report: Hawks offer Bevell OC job

ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that the Seattle Seahawks have offered former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell the job as the team’s offensive coordinator left vacant when Jeremy Bates was fired this week.

No word yet if he has accepted the offer, and the team has not confirmed that he’s been offered the job, but with Bill Musgrave hired to fill his old job with Minnesota, it would seem likely that Bevell is staying in Seattle.

According to Clayton, Bevell was offered the job and contract talks have started. The source said the negotiations should be

Seahawks hire Tom Cable as assistant head coach/offensive line coach

Tom Cable will be returning home to coach in his backyard.

The Snohomish native has been hired as the team’s new assistant head coach/offensive line coach, capping a whirlwind day at Seahawks headquarters today.

Cable had served as Oakland Raiders head coach from 2008 to 2010. And he’s a disciple of the Alex Gibbs and the zone blocking scheme.

No word yet what will happen with offensive line coaches Art Valero or Pat Ruel. And Seattle still has not hired a new offensive coordinator.

The Seahawks also announced Todd Wash as the team’s defensive line coach. Wash served

Report: Rams hire McDaniels as OC

Count Josh McDaniels out of the running as offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, McDaniels has been hired as the St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator, replacing Pat Schurmur, who moved on to take the Cleveland Browns head coaching job.

So it appears McDaniels created some leverage by putting his name out there as a potential candidate.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell reportedly still is scheduled to interview with head coach Pete Carroll this evening.

Who will replace Jeremy Bates?

While the firing of offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates was a surprising move made by Pete Carroll this morning, head coaches usually don’t let someone go unless they have someone in mind to replace them.

So I would expect an announcement of a new offensive coordinator by Carroll to come quickly.

Here are a few candidates to keep an eye on.

Harbaugh hired as Niners head coach

It appears that Pete Carroll’s rival from the Pac-10 has followed him to the NFC West.

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to announce that Jim Harbaugh is the team’s new head coach, replacing the departed Mike Singletary. Harbaugh reportedly agreed to a five-year, $25 million deal.

Harbaugh had unprecedented success at Stanford, and the news of his departure comes on the heels of projected No. 1 draft pick quarterback Andrew Luck choosing to stay in college at Stanford.

Harbaugh was speculated to have talked to Miami and considered returning to Stanford before finally agreeing to take

Hawks announce coaching staff

After a couple weeks of individual names leaking out, the Seattle Seahawks finally announced new head coach Pete Carroll’s coaching staff today.

Only two coaches have been retained from Jim Mora’s staff. They include defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and defensive line coach Dan Quinn, who will remain in the same positions on Carroll’s staff.

The coaching staff includes members with a wide variety of experiences, from college to the pros, with staff members who have won Super Bowls and national championships. Eight of the 21 coaches are former USC staff members under Carroll.

“I’m excited about the makeup of our staff,” Carroll said in a prepared statement. “It’s an energetic group of teachers with a nice blend of experience,” said Head Coach Pete Carroll. “Now we can turn our focus on the task at hand – competing in the NFC West.”
