Holmgren offers a theory

Coach Mike Holmgren has finished his day-after-game press conference. The session started on a somewhat humorous (and probably fitting) note. The armrest on his chair broke as Holmgren settled into his seat. I pass this along because that explains why Holmgren and reporters were laughing at the beginning of the session. He also talked about how getting key players back has probably come at the expense of continuity. The audio is here. Podcast version is here (at least one person said he was having problems with the other link, which has worked for me).

Dilfer calls out Fisher

Niners QB Trent Dilfer and Seahawks DE Bryce Fisher engaged in several angry exchanges during the game tonight. After the game, Dilfer said he thought Fisher, his former teammate, was acting inappropriately by taunting the 49ers’ bench after plays. “I thought it was inappropriate,” Dilfer said. “If he wants to meet me out front, I’ll tell him that too. Get back in your huddle and shut your mouth. And he wasn’t doing that. So I told him to do it.” The audio is here.

Engram feeling better

WR Bobby Engram declared himself ready to play Thursday. A thyroid condition has kept him out since early October. He hasn’t said much publicly since then, but he spoke today. The audio is here. I’ll be hitting the road now. The plan, as usual, will be to check in once I get home.

Loss, losses take a toll

Mike Holmgren generally sounds upbeat when the Seahawks are leading the division and winning more games than they lose. But with the latest injury news, coupled with the team’s defeat in Arizona on Sunday, Holmgren sounded about how we might expect: not happy. Throw in the fact that the NFL is making his team play on three days’ rest and, well, the coach might need another day to get his energy level up. Audio here.
