Bellevue Police: “We are going to be reaching out and talking to” Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch

I just spoke with Bellevue Police Department Public Information Officer Seth Tyler regarding this morning’s start of an investigation of Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch for his potential involvement in an alleged assault early Sunday in the Seattle suburb.

“We are going to be reaching out and talking to him, yes,” Tyler said.

Tyler said the investigating officer received the case just this morning, so the department is not speculating how long its investigation might last. Tyler said Bellevue PD is planning to release a statement of its findings on the investigation when it is completed.

“I can tell you there is not going to be any additional information coming today,” Tyler said.

The police department’s statement on the allegation is here:

After not making the trip to Denver for the team’s exhibition opener on Thursday and the team’s off days Friday and Saturday, Lynch practiced with the Seahawks on Sunday. It was his most action of training camp, to which he reported late two weeks ago following a short contract holdout.

The Seahawks’ players are off from practicing today and are due back on the field Tuesday morning.

The News Tribune website posted the wire-service story on the investigation about an hour ago. Before that I had a conversation with TNT Sports Editor Darrin Beene on the matter. We agreed there wasn’t much to go on at that point and that we would not immediately publish the allegation. After all, any citizen can accuse anyone of anything.

The Bellevue’s PIO confirming that the department will be speaking to Lynch regarding this allegation is the news that pushed the story forward for us to publish.

I don’t expect anything more on this until at least tomorrow, if and when coach Pete Carroll talks about it following practice.

  1. Southendzone says:

Cool to learn that his middle initial is T.

  2. yeah, it stands for “t”rouble.

  3. Maybe it stands for “t”arget. What if it was some guy wearing a #24 jersey?

  4. Beast mode.

  5. Would he really be out screwing around that late the night before practice? I want to believe that he wouldn’t.

  6. “I’m just bout that action, boss.”

  7. Dukeshire says:

Come on, Lynch. Keep your head down, please.

  8. Dukeshire says:

Gregg – “Before that I had a conversation with TNT Sports Editor Darrin Beene on the matter. We agreed there wasn’t much to go on at that point and that we would not immediately publish the allegation. After all, any citizen can accuse anyone of anything.”

Not sure if you’re aware how it works around here, but we prefer wild speculation and unreasonable jumps to conclusion. This measured and responsible stuff will take some getting used to…

  9. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Or perhaps “t”abloid?

  10. whatthehell says:

  11. Southendzone says:

I sure hope nothing happened to his Lambo.

  12. Hard to jump to any conclusions, there isnt much info to go on. I do hope he was home asleep, and not getting into any kind of confrontation at 2:30 am before practice.

  13. SandpointHawk says:

Duke, thanks for keeping Gregg on the straight and narrow…LOL.

  14. Especially as he seems to have had a very impressive practice on Sunday.
2:30 am, figure based on that it would have probably been around 4am before he got to sleep, so that means that he would have only gotten 4-5 hours sleep before he was in seen in VMAC. Not saying it is an impossible timeline, but it doesn’t pass an initial sniff test. We’ll have to wait on more information concerning exactly what is alleged to have occurred before it is going to be possible to say much of anything else about this allegation.

  15. That’s not a lot of sleep Trakar but if he ate Skittles for breakfast you now he was all good.

  16. jchawks08 says:

*Yawn* Next game is Friday, right?

  17. “reaching out” is pretty harmless language. Sounds like a petty complaint of some sort.

  18. doubledink says:

Suggested question for PC, “Don’t you have a training camp curfew?”

  19. I don’t know any of the circumstances involed, but there are plenty of times in my life when I was Lynch’s age (probably because I wasn’t married yet) and was out at 2:30 a.m. when I needed to be somewhere in the morning (with or without beer). Hopefully this isn’t a big deal.

  20. Thanks Gregg, excellent work. Sure is nice to have a professional reporter running the blog!

  21. Bobbyk–…and look how good you turned out!

(For everyone else, that isnt a snide joke, Ive met Bobbyk and he’s a great guy).

Bobby, you make an excellent point; being out late at that age (when your normal sleep cycle is that of a night-owl) is normal. Getting in trouble is not, though, and of course we all hope Lynch was not up to anything that will get him in trouble.

I admit, when he was accused of DUI etc before, I didnt take a wait-and-see approach. Nor do I do that with other players when they are accused of DV, at least not when there’s a lot of initial info and it looks bad…But in this instance, we have very little information to go on, so I am just waiting warily…

  22. doubledink says:

I know some here didn’t appreciate Todd’s running of the blog, but that dig was out of line. Those who worked with him attested to his professionalism and intense dedication to his craft, hence his new opportunity. This blog is an add-on responsibility to the person running it and we get it for free. We could all exercise more gratitude.

  23. chuck_easton says:

I remember being that age, staying out ALL night, coming back to the hotel in time to get my equipment bag and getting on the bus to the fields to play in the National Softball Finals.

That was the year my team won.

Oh, to be young and stupid again, and not just stupid…

  24. PLUHawkFan says:

I’m going to take a wait and see on this one. Definitely an innocent until proven guilty thing. I agree with Audible above, “reaching out” to speak with Marshawn is pretty harmless language and seems at least initially to be just normal police investigation of any type of incident.

Hoping beyond hope that this turns out to be absolutely nothing. I will say I worry ever so “slightly” though about ML’s mind frame and attitude because of the result of his holdout. Let’s hope there isn’t a volcano brewing under the surface waiting to explode. (although exploding on the field wouldn’t’ be so bad) but no off the field.

  25. Ray_Maines says:

Slave, you are so wrong. It’s totally easy to jump to conclusions, we do it all the time and we’re pretty darn good at it. Heck, GH is probably working the kinks out of some song lyrics right now.

  26. sluggo42 says:

Some thoughts on back to the broncos playing hard.

I seem to recall about 3 of them making a “hard” play, then the next thing you know, they were on the bench getting checked out.
There is a big difference between playing tough, and actually being tough. The broncos can try to play tough, but the Hawks ARE tough…

  27. sluggo42 says:

Sad side note, Robin Williams appears to have committed suicide today…

  28. Ray_Maines says:

Things just aren’t working right in your life when suicide seems like a good idea. RIP RW. Super talented, super troubled.

    Flipping the coin…

Our own RW – Russell Wilson – refuses to take the bait and trash the First Lady. That kid is perfect. I’ve said before and I’ll reiterate that RW’s late father might be the most important person in the entire Seahawk family. Mr.’s Sherman and Thomas might be tied for second.

  29. Ray_Maines says:

    Oh, one more thing….

Georgia, if you’re looking for a song to parody ML’s past and present troubles I humbly suggest this:

  30. Ray_Maines says:

    OK, two more things…

Interesting that this is the currently the latest offering from Terry Blount on the ESPN Seahawk blog:

  31. GeorgiaHawk says:

That’s funny Sluggo because I was thinking the same thing today about Denver’s toughness (or lack of it) while watching the game again today.

First one of their DBs gets hurt trying to lay a hit on CM.

Then right after that their other DB gets hurt trying to make a shoulder tackle on Bates thigh. (That’s one of the reasons why I am rooting for Bates to make the 53).
Doubt any other receiver we have can out physical a defender like that.

And then to top that off their RB back gets smacked by Coyle & leaves the game with a concussion.
After Coyle made that hit you could see Coyles expression as he walks away from the scene of his hit.
That’s when it hit me that Coyle has the it factor.
Just to see that look on his face said it all.
Cole had that Easley/Lott look about him.
Like it was more than football. It was about punishment.

  32. Was Beast hangin with Rikki Rockette saturday night?

  33. We could, yes we certainly could.

  34. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Shush Ray_Maines.

I’m trying to stop doing the parody posts.

I don’t want to chase away Gregg so soon. Or Oldtallguy either.

I might have one or two down the road though.

  35. Ray_Maines says:

    Bad Lynch On The Rise….

  36. Dukeshire says:

    Okay… that’s enough.

  37. I’m a Bon Jovi fan and “You Give Love a Bad Name” is one of my faves:

    Called when it’s dark
    at 2:30 a.m.
Dukie, this police report give Lynch a Bad Name.

A tough running style is what he sells,
But getting in trouble puts the team through hell,
If he gave someone a shove,
    Gotta hope for a plea,
Staying out late is a prison when you can’t break free…

    Oh, you were having fun,
    Oh, there’s nowhere to run,
But when the cops showed up this police report begun (repeat chorus).

Sorry, Duke, I know how much you love these! :)

  38. Dukeshire says:

[Sigh] Gregg has everyone in a tizzy, apparently. lol

  39. RDPoulsbo says:

Is anyone from the sports media going to reach Lynch for comment?

In all seriousness, this seems very out of character, even for his previous run-ins with the law. He’s done some stupid stuff, but nothing really violent. Just like the Kaepernick incident, there’s not much there to go one way or other to begin to pass judgment, so it’s all wait and see.

  40. Ray_Maines says:

    Serious post:

How much longer can Marchan Lynch carry on with this sort of stupid behavior before Roger Goodell comes down on him like the proverbial ton of bricks? You know, smoke/fire, that sort of thing?

Seriously Marshawn, do you really think you can drive the UofCal golf cart around for the rest of your life and just be the player formerly known as BeastMode? Maybe you have enough money left in the bank to do just that, but I don’t think so. You’re going to be broke 3.7 years after you retire if you don’t change your ways.

Come on Dude, quit being your stupid alter-ego, buckle up and be a professional football player. Quit beating people up at 3:00 in the morning, quit driving drunk, quit dis’ing the media, and quit being an all around pain in the ass. You’re not even 30 years old and you’ve got 50+ years of life to go. Please Marshan, don’t be just one more NFL causality. Pull you head out of your butt and get with the program.

  41. sluggo42 says:

JusJammn, yes, we would love to meet up with some other 12’s before/after the game.

As we get closer to the game, well have to do a roll call, and figure out a place to meet up at…

  42. Ray_Maines says:

My first offer is Katie Downs, but I’m flexible. Friday night at 5:00 for the pregame

  43. AZBubba71 says:

Note to self: Do not date porn stars or strippers (is there really any difference?). Will only be asking for trouble and drama.

  44. Sounds great Sluggo! I’m thinking the old Ricky Watters jersey just might make an appearance…..

  45. sluggo42 says:

We are talking about the San Diego game in so-cal, week #2
Anyone else going to that game?

  46. Ray_Maines says:

9:20 at night in T-Town, it’s really hot and there is lightning and thunder going on. 5-6 seconds between the L & T.

  47. oldtallguy says:

I’ll be at the San Diego game with friends who have Charger season tickets. 12 rolls up in the middle if goal posts

  48. Ray_Maines says:

AZB, Older guys advice: Go ahead and date the porn stars, strippers and pole dancers, just don’t fall in love. Enjoy every minute of the experience, but don’t believe a single word spoken. They aren’t speaking the same language you are. Trust me just this once.

  49. Ray_Maines says:

It’s 9:45 pm in the Most Weird City and it’s raining puppies and kittens. Who could know?

  50. Ray_Maines says:

    Go Hawks!!

  51. oldtallguy says:

My remarks to certain comments, not raking on any, just trying humor.
Would he really be out screwing around that late the night before practice?
Hell Yes. The difference between Marshawn and almost all of us bloggers, is he can screw anyone he wants and we screw what we can get.

Question for PC. Don’t you have a training camp curfew? When we practice at the VMAC the players stay at home so I have no way to check, but according to Bellevue police one of my players broke curfew Saturday night.

Is anyone from the sports media going to reach out to Lynch for comment? Hell no, I don’t want to be on the receiving end of a Lynch assault.

Seems out if character for ML. REALLY.

How much longer can Lynch carry on with this sort of stupid behavior before RG comes down on him like a ton of bricks? RG is stomping at the bits and if his chance comes, omg

  52. oldtallguy says:

Heading to San Diego Sept 5, for a couple weeks visiting friends who have season tickets and one of the wives gladly gave up her ticket. She’s not into football.I’ll be at Oceans 11 in Oceanside every day at the poker tables.

  53. Big party for the SD game.. Saturday get together.

Big Tailgate party with 2 big party buses & the Sherm Family RV.

  54. Georgia–No comments on that link; looks like they removed the dissenting opinion lol!

Blount has no clue much of the time. Feeble is the word…

  55. montanamike2 says:

I was disappointed in Jeffcoat, i’ve been rooting for him and Jefferson really lit it up before getting hurt, hopefully he can make it back to our PS. Jeffcoat has limited time to step up or he’s gone.

  56. chuck_easton says:

I had to. If you are going to be getting a paycheck to write an article at least do the research.

    He had it coming.

  57. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Lol Chuck.

Where were you when STTBM & I needed you at Seahawks draft blog?
Your post would have just been deleted like our posts were.

  58. sluggo42 says:

    The Whiskey Girl saloon!
Looks like it’s gunna be a partay!,

  59. GeorgiaHawk says:

Jeffcoat has it tough learning a new position with little time to make the team.

Maybe the FO is just trying to stash him away for down the road?

    Maybe he just sucks?

    Who knows.

  60. Chuck–I agree, he had it coming. At least he doesnt have smart-assed responses that turn out to be utterly wrong, like a certain writer.

Sluggo–Wish I could be there to meet you and the rest of the guys!

MontanaMike2–Jeffcoat looks really odd at SAM. He plays too tall, and seems a little stiff, though he moves better than you’d think. He could be a really active DE if he gained a bit of weight, I just think he’s too raw and too slow to play SAM for us. They are giving him a shot to see what he can do, which is good. And even if he doesnt make the 53, they may keep him around on the PS for a year or two. They have Jameson Konz a couple years after all!

Coyle wasnt perfect, but he seems a natural/instinctive player, and he surely has the toughness and nasty streak you need at MLB. He needs to get a bit stronger, but that will come.

Jeron Johnson is a good player, but this team is utterly different with Chancellor in the game. Cant wait to see him onfield!

  61. They GAVE Jameson Konz a couple years…

  62. Georgia–It would have been fun to have Chuck pile on. It still pisses me off the way they deleted any and all comments that disagreed with the party line, or pointed out inaccuracies or logical fallacies in their illustrious writers “articles”.

If you cant take any criticism or admit fault when wrong, you arent a writer, youre simply a blowhard with a platform.

  63. The Jets are simply DYING for bodies at CB. You know they are gonna put a waiver claim on anyone we cut, along with Jax. It would seem Seattle could trade a guy or two on the bottom now, and get a little something while helping Idzik out a bit.

Phillip Adams, Akeem Auguste, Terrel Thomas, Terrance Parks, ANY of those guys seem to me better than the junk the Jets are bringing in now. Whichever ones we think wont make it could be sent to the Jets, and everyone wins, even the player.

I know trades arent exactly common in the NFL, but it does make some sense IMO. Like when we traded Kelly Jennings for Clinton McDonald; I thought we’d have to give a team a fourth round pick to take him lol!

  64. montanamike2 says:

My comments weren’t deleted, they just magically didn’t show up at all.

  65. Heh, I got a couple comments through, but they lasted less than an hour. What a crap site lol!

  66. Southendzone says:

Heard TP on KIRO interview this morning. Sounds like a pretty cool guy and very determined to succeed as a starting QB somewhere.

  67. chuck_easton says:

    Georgia and STTBM,

It’s just that the PUP rules are probably the most misunderstood rules this time of year by the regular fans.

It doesn’t help when you have a paid writer, paid to cover the NFL, paid to cover the Seahawks, that either doesn’t know the rule, doesn’t care, or both.

There are fans that are going to accept what he says because he works for the FOUR LETTER NETWORK.

As we all know on here. I’m a rules geek. It’s the legal training in me. Even when I coach youth football the head coach always relies on me to point out obscure little rules during the game.

Some guys get into fantasy football. Some guys are stats gurus. I’m the guy that can quote the NFL rule book. It’s a sickness.

  68. GDub –

Your parodies are priceless…if someone doesn’t appreciate your creativity, they can just skip them.

  69. GeorgiaHawk says:

Speaking of PUP, is it a good bet Irvin stays there?

  70. chuck_easton says:

    Football talk? Are we allowed?

Based on the video that the team put out of him sprinting I’d say it’s a coin toss.

If the team PUP’s him he’s out for the 1st six games. If they have any hope, thought, prayer that he will be game ready before six games they may carry him on the final 53.

But the upside to putting him on PUP means there is a LB spot freed up for a guy like Coyle who looks like a keeper. That is one guy that just might not make it through waivers.

  71. chuck_easton says:

Georgia, I agree with Audible. All of us middle aged men still have that idiot teenager inside of us just screaming to get out once in a while.

If your inner teenager is into song parodies, let him express himself.

My inner teenager is apparently a video game rager, according to my 17 year old. Who knew you weren’t supposed to scream at the TV and throw the controller at the screen when you can’t complete a difficult level?

  72. Chuck–hahaha! Yep, I gave up on video games after the Sega Genesis–I can only handle three buttons lol!

I hear you. Dybas got snotty on live chats and in threads with folks a couple times despite being dead wrong. He never once owned up to it, and it was his snide remarks that really set me off, not the fact that he was wrong; we’re all wrong from time to time.

But yeah, Blount should know how the PS works, and the PUP etc. Duh.

Georgia–Youre parodies occasionally are painful, but post them anyway. Those who dont like them can skip ‘em; though soemtimes its like hearing even a snippet of BTO’s Takin’ Care of Business; no matter how fast you tune it out, its in your head all day…lol!

I think Coyle stays no matter what, but what do I know? Perhaps they will PUP Irvin.

  73. Dukeshire says:

“When we practice at the VMAC the players stay at home so I have no way to check, but according to Bellevue police one of my players broke curfew Saturday night.”

I don’t understand what this means. Beyond the “I”s, “my”s, and “we”s, what curfew did the police say he violated?

  74. chuck_easton says:

The team has a training camp ‘curfew’ but it is on the honour system. Since the players stay in their own home there is no ‘bed check’ like you would see if camp were such that players stayed in a dormitory. Or bed checks that occur when the team stays in the hotel the night before a game.

What Carroll is saying is that according to the police statement ‘one of his players (Lynch) was out after the team’s curfew Saturday night.

  75. GeorgiaHawk says:

Lol, I never made it past that Galaga video game.

Heck I never made it past electric football to Madden.

  76. doubledink says:

Duke, it was a reference to my post above:

Suggested question for PC, “Don’t you have a training camp curfew?”

  77. Georgia–I could have won a national competition for Madden 93 on the Genesis, I was that good. I had every personnel package and trick memorized for every single team. I could win the SB with TB or Seattle and win every game during the season. I beat all my cousins and no one could regularly beat me unless they had an aftermarket “Cheating” controller that let you throw 95 yards, etc…

Now I get my facts all confused, I cant even name about 1/3 of the Seahawks roster, and I probably couldnt win at Madden if my life depended on it lol!

Ah, the joys of aging! And heck, Im not even quite 40 yet…by 70 I wont be tying my own shoes and I’ll be drooling down my front at this rate…

  78. SandpointHawk says:

Now I get my facts all confused, I cant even name about 1/3 of the Seahawks roster, and I probably couldnt win at Madden if my life depended on it lol!

Yep, once I could name everyman on all the NFL active rosters ans MLB rosters now I’m lucky to remember the starters on my favorite teams. Welcome to the club Slave…

  79. My mind is a raging torrent…full of streams of…of…of..I forget…
