Irvin out with hip surgery

A Seahawks spokesman said after Monday’s OTA that SAM linebacker Bruce Irvin underwent hip surgery today and there is no timetable for his return. The first-round pick of the Hawks in 2012 was moved last season from rush-end to strong-side linebacker.

Noting the personnel: Kam Chancellor (hip), Russell Okung (foot), Sidney Rice (knee) are all still out. Rice was running but not participating in drills. LB Malcolm Smith was not wearing the boot that had been protecting his surgically repaired ankle, but he did not practice. Marshawn Lynch was absent again. DT Tony McDaniels also was absent. Rookies Cassius Marsh and Andru Pulu missed because they are not eligible because of late graduation at their schools. Tarvaris Jackson was back after missing some practice last week.

Rookie Justin Britt was getting work with the first offense at right tackle and it appeared Michael Bowie might have been dinged and held out of team drills.  Defensive end Cliff Avril missed time last week (honeymoon) but was back in action. CB Tharold Simon (foot), also saw action.

The offensive play of the day was Russell Wilson’s 50-yard touchdown pass to rookie Paul Richardson. The defensive play of the day, too, involved Wilson, as K.J. Wright intercepted him on a pass across the middle after a scramble.

Afterward, Wilson said he thought the receivers have been the most impressive group on the team. Having a healthy Percy Harvin back makes a huge difference, he said.

He said he hasn’t been distracted by the off-field demands following the Super Bowl win. “I stay pretty organized,” he said, adding that he feels his knowledge of the game has “grown exponentially.” He said he’s trying to “lean up” but not lose weight. As for his short-cropped hair, he said he had his hair cut into a mohawk at an event to raise money for the fight against diabetes shortly before the Seahawks’ White House trip, leaving his only option getting it cropped closely or meeting president Obama with a mohawk.

Didn’t want this to get out but I’m fine! Will b back by training camp! For all u people saying this a make or break year for me!

I guess that answers the question of whether Irvin pays attention to the fans and media.

  2. SandpointHawk says:

Just wish he had done it a bit sooner…..

  3. Good to hear Simon is finally practicing. Im looking forward to seeing this kid play. Also great to hear Richardson is going deep…Man, I love to hear about 50 yard TD’s to rookies with 4.3 speed…

Irvin DOES pay attention to expectations of fans and media. He cant help it. The guy really wants to be a good player and live up to his draft spot, but its gonna be hard for him to do that. I like him, I think he’s a pretty good player, and I think he’s going to do well at SAM, and even better at passing down-DE. But he really does need to step it up…

  4. Southendzone says:

Irvin is a pretty good follow on twitter. Talks about his baby boy all the time and seems pretty open with what he’s thinking.

  5. montanamike2 says:

STTBM thanks for answering me about the Swiss last post.

  6. MontanaMike2–No problem, Im glad to hear you like the place too; small world, eh?! Someday we have to grab some beers there…

  7. montanamike2 says:

    for sure.

  8. SaigonSun says:

STTBM, I’m just curious about your name. I read people here address you as Slave. That name is very common in the southern Slavic countries, specially in Macedonia and, somewhat in Serbia. Are you ,or your parents from there?

  9. Saigon–No, not as far as I know. Ive supposedly got some Norwegian blood, along with at least ten other nationalities..Im a Mutt lol!

The name STTBM is Slave To The Businessman, a reference to something said in a bizarre interview Josh Brown, our old kicker, gave on the radio after he signed with the Rams. I wanted to ensure his nonsensical words mocked him for life…Plus, Im kind of a Slave to the businessman like most folks, one paycheck from disaster and I have yet to buy a house and Im pushing 40, despite a college education and a sterling work record. So, I thought the name was a good fit…

  10. SaigonSun says:

Cool. Thanks for the explanation. I was just wandering as I said before. I have traveled a lot all over the world after my soccer career was over, and I knew that name from my past. Over there it pronounces Sla-veh, if I can remember right.
As for the house….yeah, I had few. Now, they are owned by my ex-wifes. LOL
Being a good and happy person is much more important than material possessions. Nobody can take that away from You.
What would Ezra say : my 2 cents worth.

  11. Ewalters7354 says:

STTBM,no lie,I thought you were much older.Sometimes I think your just this grumpy ole man,but we learn something new everyday lol.

I’m also somewhat a slave to the businessman.Especially with my girlfriend being 8mths pregnant and bringing in the house’s only income. Its tough for a lot us bro.

STTBM – Are you in Montana as well? Bobby said he hooked up with you and Montana over the weekend.

  15. Dukeshire–Yup, I live in Montana. It was great to see Mike again, and to meet Bobbyk. I just wish we’d had more time to drink beer and talk Seahawks lol! Another time…

EWalters–Yeah, dont blame you for thinking I was an old grumpy dude. I get that way from time to time, but it usually doesnt last long–just long enough for my comments on here to reflect my mood lol! It took me a long time–eleven years–to find a job that lasted more than two years and wasnt seasonal, so I understand being on the bottom end of economics. Best wishes to you and your lady and your little one to come…things usually work out, and hard times seldom last. May things turn for the brighter for all of us..

Heck, Seattle won the damn Super Bowl…ANYTHING is possible!

Saigon–Material things dont mean a lot to me, but I have a dog and Im tired of landlords charging more than a mortgage for dumps–and not wanting to allow pets! And a lot of my angst has less to do with money and more to do with being stuck (for nearly 10 years) in the wrong job. It pays bills but its not what Im meant to do or what Im good at, and my window to get out is closing rapidly. This blog is a good escape most times, but I probably allow my frustrations to bleed into my comments more than I realize…

So I guess what I mean is thanks for putting up with me when Im a grumpy ass…

  16. Ray_Maines says:

Irvin out with hip surgery? That just sucks.

  17. Southendzone says:

Unless your net worth is significantly north of 5mil, we all are STTBM.

Even if you got a nice job, ok house, put away $ for retirement, you’re just a fat cow getting milked by the 1% who know how to game the system and have the resources to do it.

  18. Ray_Maines says:

So what you’re saying is vote Demo?

  19. Southendzone says:

Nope, either become elitely rich, or be their unwitting servant for life. Kinda like the life of the people in the Matrix. dont even realize your status.

  20. jawpeace says:

Sttbm, I just got my first home last July! I never thought I would be able to get a home. But years of building up my credit score, slowly saving for 5% down, and a little “nest egg”, the interest rates dropping like they have and home prices low. It actually happened in my 40th year of life! You can do it too. If I can at my yearly salary anyone can with a lot of discipline. For I make less than $1500 per month. So it is possible just make sure that you are out of debt. And best thing of all besides having my own home the total mortgage payment is $50.00 less than I was paying for rent! :)

  21. jawpeace–Yeah, Ive got the credit, just working on the 5% down. Im hoping I can swing it soon, the interest rates and home prices are going back up, and this time its slow but steady and not a bubble….I have an ugly school loan thats been holding us down, but we’ve nearly got it down far enough to see daylight..

Yeah, where we’re looking to find a place, rent is more than buying as well. Makes no sense to rent, especially since we have a dog and landowners dont like pets, even here in MT where pets are ubiquitous…

  22. HawkfaninMT says:

I pay more for my house in Missoula than I was paying rent unfortunately…. Housing cost in Missoula is pretty crazy these days

  23. HawkfaninMT–Yeah, Missoula is ridiculous.
