A Seahawks spokesman said after Monday’s OTA that SAM linebacker Bruce Irvin underwent hip surgery today and there is no timetable for his return. The first-round pick of the Hawks in 2012 was moved last season from rush-end to strong-side linebacker.
Noting the personnel: Kam Chancellor (hip), Russell Okung (foot), Sidney Rice (knee) are all still out. Rice was running but not participating in drills. LB Malcolm Smith was not wearing the boot that had been protecting his surgically repaired ankle, but he did not practice. Marshawn Lynch was absent again. DT Tony McDaniels also was absent. Rookies Cassius Marsh and Andru Pulu missed because they are not eligible because of late graduation at their schools. Tarvaris Jackson was back after missing some practice last week.
Rookie Justin Britt was getting work with the first offense at right tackle and it appeared Michael Bowie might have been dinged and held out of team drills. Defensive end Cliff Avril missed time last week (honeymoon) but was back in action. CB Tharold Simon (foot), also saw action.
The offensive play of the day was Russell Wilson’s 50-yard touchdown pass to rookie Paul Richardson. The defensive play of the day, too, involved Wilson, as K.J. Wright intercepted him on a pass across the middle after a scramble.
Afterward, Wilson said he thought the receivers have been the most impressive group on the team. Having a healthy Percy Harvin back makes a huge difference, he said.
He said he hasn’t been distracted by the off-field demands following the Super Bowl win. “I stay pretty organized,” he said, adding that he feels his knowledge of the game has “grown exponentially.” He said he’s trying to “lean up” but not lose weight. As for his short-cropped hair, he said he had his hair cut into a mohawk at an event to raise money for the fight against diabetes shortly before the Seahawks’ White House trip, leaving his only option getting it cropped closely or meeting president Obama with a mohawk.
