Greetings from Renton, where I’m helping out today at Day 2 of Seahawks rookie mini-camp. We heard from DE Cassius Marsh, LB Kevin Pierre-Louis and WR Kevin Norwood after the workout, but first, here are some quick notes and observations.
— WR Paul Richardson, Seattle’s second-round pick this year, did not participate. It was a precautionary measure and not thought to be serious. Richardson had a big day at mini-camp on Friday.
— With Richardson sidelined, along with WR Chris Matthews (hamstring) and WR Lance Ray, that meant a lot more opportunities for Seattle’s available receivers, including fourth-round draft pick Kevin Norwood. The Alabama product had a few impressive catches, including one early from QB Zach Zulli, then another that was floated down the right sideline by QB Keith Price during a 7-on-7 session. Norwood also made a nice grab near the right sideline from Zulli toward the end of practice as Zulli was rolling right.
— It was another pretty solid day for Price, who connected on a pair of deep passes to WR Arceto Clark that went for long gains. Price also did a nice job of finding safety valves when there was nothing developing downfield, dumping passes off to TE Cooper Helfet — who also looked solid — and TE Rashaun Allen. Helfet also made a pretty impressive catch of a ball thrown a little behind him by Zulli.
— The best run from scrimmage came courtesy of RB Ryan Montague, a 5-foot-8, 232-pounder from Louisiana College who broke through a few arm tackles for a long gain and a touchdown down the right sideline. He was pursued until the end by DT Michael Brooks, who earned praise from teammates and coaches for his efforts.
— Clark nearly had another long gain on the final pass of the day thrown by Price, but FS Markus Smith got enough of his hand on it to make a nice play and break it up.
— OT Garrett Scott, the team’s sixth-round draft pick, was again a non-participant, presumably still pending his physical.
