The acquisition of Sammy Watkins made Johnson’s departure seem inevitable.

    Well that really sucks

  2. grizindabox24 says:

curious to see what the Niners do next since they were about $4M under the cap and Stevie Johnson’s cap number is $3.925M

  3. good pick up for them.

  4. HawkfaninMT says:

I’m sure they will figure it out… These NFL teams always do!

Begs an interesting question though… Wonder if any other players are for sale? Hawks or otherwise. I remember hearing about Derrick Morgan of Tennessee also Brandon Graham of Philly. Both could be Leo prospects, Graham less so in my opinion.

  5. SRVHawk says:

Yep, this sucks. People can’t complain that Craperstink doesn’t have targets this year, health permitting.

  6. HawkFromDay1 says:

Yeah Buffalo – what would be the point of having 2 good WR’s? Weird. Seems like that team has been “rebuilding” since 1988.

Now for Sherman’s judgment: is Stevie Johnson “mediocre” or “sorry?”

  7. HawkfaninMT says:

In fairness Buffalo has a few good WRs now…

Watkins, Robert Woods, and Mike Williams is pretty solid

  8. doubledink says:

Reports say Houston has interest in Ryan Mallet. We’ll know tonight.

    Nice pickup for Santa Clara.

  9. banosser says:

Buffalo did ok with this.. drafted him in the 7th.. got good production.. traded him for a 4th

  10. grizindabox24 says:

@banosser, my take was it is a conditional 5th that could become a 3rd

  11. pabuwal says:

What do you guys think about the Seahawks trading 64 to Miami for Dion Jordan to play Leo?

  12. grizindabox24 says:

just saw 4th that can become a 3rd

  13. jchawks08 says:

Funny nugget from KJR. Their On-air personalities are fining each other $2 every time one of them refers to the Santa Clara 49ers as San Francisco.

  14. surelyyoujest says:

He’s a solid receiver when he’s healthy and engaged. It might end up being a solid pick-up for them.

  15. seatowntp says:

After the Bills made the Watkins pick last evening making Stevie Johnson expendable, I HOPED that he would find his way to Seattle. I certainly didn’t hope he’d find his way to Seattle in a SC 49er uniform. ugh. When healthy he is an excellent receiver.

  16. Macabrevity says:

Biggest improvement among our rivals is easily the Rams and yet, as long as they have Sam ‘Grbac’ Bradford under center, we never have to worry about them. As long as he stays healthy we’re good there.

Stevie Johnson to SF is a great move for them, but I still see them as a team in ‘slowish’ decline.

  17. pabuwal says:

Gaining a 3rd lumbering, possession WR won’t help the 49ers beat the Seahawks but it will help them beat other teams.

  18. Stevie Johnson is great–when healthy. In fact, during the 50-burger we dropped on the Bills in 2012, Johnson was open all day long–WIDE open! Sherman couldn’t cover him; no joke!

Don’t believe me? Look it up. I watched one of those talking head shows that highlighted Johnson that night; no one could cover him. In fact, they showed it was Sherms worst performance of the year vs a particular WR. While he wasn’t making catches, it wasn’t his fault–their QB wasn’t getting him the ball.

This is a great pickup by the Whiners. He can tear it up in the slot or at SE. They got a good deal too…

  19. Pabs–Johnson is smallish and fast; quick as hell–hardly big and lumbering.

  20. Ok, dude is nearly 6′-2″ and just over 200 lbs–but quick and not exactly lumbering!

  21. BobbyK says:

If our FO will trade that, I’d be all for it concerning Jordan.

  22. banosser says:

    6-2 210 4.59 combine 40

  23. SRVHawk says:

An added concern with Jordan is his contract. They’d better be sure he fits the bill.

  24. Southendzone says:

Is buffalo cap strapped? I dont get this trade from their side, i thik they should hold out for 2nd rounder

  25. grizindabox24 says:

SEZ, no way Bills would get a 2nd. And actually, trading Johnson increases his cap hit on Buffalo

  26. BobbyK says:

I had heard earlier this off-season that Jordan was available for a second, then heard they wouldn’t do it. They do have a new GM so those guys always seem to want “their” guys.

There’s a reason Jordan went early in the draft last year. Maybe they were trying to fit a square peg into a round hole? We all know Mr. Happy can take unique players and get them in position to be most successful.

A red flag though is Chip Kelly. He coached him at Oregon and drafted a DE last night in the first round. Had he been sold on Jordan, you’d think he’d have traded that pick for him (#3 pick is a heck of a lot better than a #26 pick or whatever it was).
