Though he chose no to talk to us yesterday, Doug Baldwin did talk with fans via Spreecast. The first question for Baldwin was about his contract. He covered a lot of other stuff, too.

    Great news!

    Thanks Todd.

Does not sound as if anything is close to being resolved regarding a contract extension. But the talks have ‘begun’.

But again, nothing to worry about. Baldwin received no offers from other teams. That leaves him only three options:

    1. Sign the RFA tender and play for the 2.4M this season.
    2. Negotiate a long term deal prior to the July deadline.
    3. Sit out 2014 and try again next season.

My guess is Option 1 will be the likely result. The team and DB’s agent can continue to negotiate for next year.

We’re never surprised by anything the brain trust does are we?

That said, I’d be surprised if the ‘Hawks even want to sign Baldwin to a long term contract this Spring. As long as Percy Harvin is healthy DB is redundant.

“As long as Percy Harvin is healthy DB is redundant.”

Baldwin is often RW’s security blanket on the field and always seems to make clutch plays. Regardless of Harvin’s health, Baldwin isn’t redundant.
