  1. In other words, he took more money so he could play on a bad team.

  2. sluggo42 says:

    Whatever…

  3. Hawks have been in on a bunch of WRs it seems.

  4. sluggo42 says:

What we are finding is who wants to play to win, vs, those who want to play for money. I get the small window for making bank, but isn’t there still an urge to win a ring?

  5. grizindabox24 says:

SEA has been linked to any outside FA: TE, WR, DT, DE

SEA willing to pursue names in the $3-4m range like Smith, James Jones, Britt…not willing to go after Tate at $6m apy…

  6. Taking the money seems to trump playing for a ring. Perhaps only those players nearing their last contract and having a great career behind them feel that need for a ring to cement their legacy.

  7. Yeah, whatever is right.

If we still need to sign a free agent WR, Sidney Rice or Robert Meacham might be the most viable options.

  8. GeorgiaHawk says:

Todd grew up wanting to play for the Raiders too.
Thankfully he decided to work for TNT and cover the Seahawks instead.

    Raiders loss, our gain.

  9. SaigonSun says:

No need to panic. We will get a WR to catch passes. .. OL, on the other hand is our biggest problem. Our FO will do what needs to be done. For the first time in my life, I am not going to worry. REPEAT BABY.

  10. What we are seeing is the Hawks making value-based offers to several players without breaking the bank or offering something that we’ll regret with future salary cap hits.

Those players that decide a SB opportunity is more important than getting every dime they can, will end up signing with us. But in a sport that demands you sacrifice your body for the near term and (possibly) long term, it’s really hard to blame guys that choose the money first. Especially when you compare NFL salaries against the NBA or MLB.

  11. Rather have Finley anyways.

  12. vichawkfan says:

@RapSheet: Jared Allen’s meeting with the #Cowboys starts tonight with some meetings and goes into tomorrow. Too early to know if he’ll sign or walk.

  13. vichawkfan says:

@RapSheet: He is. But unlikely a deal tonight. RT @OnPointNY: @RapSheet melton is still there in Dallas too?

  14. vichawkfan says:

    Twitter alert!

@RapSheet: He is. But unlikely a deal tonight. RT @OnPointNY: @RapSheet melton is still there in

  15. grizindabox24 says:

vic, you decided to skip this one

    Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 3h
If there is a Henry Melton signing with the #Cowboys, doesn’t sound like it’ll happen tonight. Vikings in it, Seahawks not as much.

  16. I didn’t realize that Allen is from Dallas. That makes sense why he’d visit there and perhaps sign (since the Cowboys stink).

  17. Seattle also showing interest in future Hall of Fame WR Kenny Britt.

  18. sluggo42 says:

    Is tha Kenny “psycho” Britt?

    Or the normal Kenny Britt?

  19. Hope it comes true.

  20. The Hawks have had a few contracts that were not so good. Rice – Miller – Harvin – Red – etc. They are trying to avoid that now.

  21. We don’t know about Harvin’s and why was Millers bad?

  22. ospreyLV says:

Jones? Team needs a #1 WR. Sure. Let me know when Rice makes a decision.

  23. grizindabox24 says:

Osprey, so which #1 WR is available? And don’t say Sidney Rice.

  24. With a roll of the dice, Kenny Britt. But a knee injury in 2011. At 100% he is TOP flight. Look up how exceptional Hasselbeck claimed him to be.
Rice was awsome accompanied by a gun slinger, Favre. Jones had his moments with Rodgers, NAH!
Take a flyer on Britt if the price is right. Rice was never worth 8.5 M. I would like for him to give Hawks a substantial discount.

  25. And include me in the LAND Allen camp

  26. grizindabox24 says:

Osprey, there were/are no #1 WRs that were available. Not Rice, Not Britt.

Also, I do not see the Hawks landing Allen…$$$ does not match up.

  27. Wow. Dude i gotta see your girl. She must be a Megatron.
Who is the #1Colt Wr? Patriots? Packer?
    Brady made Deon Branch ‘Cream’.

Most QB’s want what Atlanta has at WR but every team wants a QB named Brady, P Manning, Luck or Rodgers.

  28. I would give Britt a look, but I think Finley will end up being our big receiver, unless some rookie comes out of nowhere for us.

  29. grizindabox24 says:

osprey, you sort of made my point for me. Who is the #1 Colt WR? Patriots? Packers? Seahawks?

What #1 WR are just sitting around waiting for work?

You seem to think Rice and Britt are #1 WR’s, but they aren’t. If they were more than a handful of teams would be trying to sign them. I am not saying that these guys could not help the Hawks, but they are far from a legit #1 WR.

  30. Britt WAS a talent. He’s always been an idiot. Then he blew his knee. He’s never worked hard, and thats what you need to get over a blown knee. He’s a headcase worse than Crabtree, and NOT someone worth paying squat to until he proves he can accomplish something two years running.

And I liked him coming out of college.

Seattle has half-assedly chased after losers like Britt and JOnes while letting one of their own walk.

To me, this shows us either they really thought Tate sucked, or they fouled up bigtime. Considering their track record, as much as I hate to admit it, it must mean Tate made a LOT more mistakes than guys like me ever noticed. Cause theres no way JS and PC screwed the pooch as bad as it seems…

But its kinda embarrassing that they seem to have thought we could repeat last years Coup and get top talent at a discount, what with the rising cap and the rebound of contracts for skill positions. Its not happening. Allen and Melton will go elsewhere, while Tate and others left for fair market value. Seattle will be left holding the bag, and hoping the backups that JS and PC seem to have no faith in can step up.

I like those guys. Lets ROCK!

  31. WHile there are a lot of FA WR’s this year, none are real number ones. Most are two’s at best, if not threes, and many have not only attitude/intelligence issues, but are coming off major injuries. IN other words, risky garbage.

There isnt one WR im excited about Seattle signing, for any money. And Im a WR GEEK! I love the position, and if Im not impressed, then who IS?!

  32. Big Red was worth every penny we paid him, until after the SB. He owes us nothing. Now hes gone, and its sad, but his contract was written so if he wasnt a star, we would cut him and hed make more elsewhere. Which is exactly what happened. Everyone wins.

  33. CDN_C_Hawk says:

Under this new CBA, I believe teams now have to spend, 89% of the 133 mil cap space which means you have to have 14 mil or less to abide by that agreement. we are just over 13 mil, Raiders had cap space around 49 mil, so they had to unload 35 mil to achieve the 89% spending requirement. Not sure what the number usually is to sign say 7 draft picks plus UDFA, but I think its around 5 mil, meaning we have 8 mil to either carry over to next year or go after a cheap FA this year.

  34. grizindabox24 says:

STTBM, I believe this assumption is incorrect: “To me, this shows us either they really thought Tate sucked, or they fouled up bigtime.” I think it has much more to do with $$$. For lack of a better term, seems they are sort of bottom feeding. They seem to be interested in several WR and defensive lineman, but only at there price, which seems to be cheap.

  35. tealskin says:

Doesn’t cost much to take a look, and could drive up the cost for other teams. Wouldn’t be surprised if we save the $ for players that are cut after the draft.

  36. doubledink says:

STTBM, you gotta let Tate go, man. You gotta let it go…

    (that was for you Bobbyk)

  37. Griz–I was exaggerating. They dont wish to break the bank on a WR to play opposite Harvin. But it seems to me that the small amount they will save if they sign a guy like Jones isnt worth the drop in performance. They have at LEAST 13 million in cap space, and perhaps more than we know. I guess they will roll it over to next year if they cant lock up another bigtime Defensive player or a FA WR.

  38. grizindabox24 says:

STTBM, the Hawks are going to draft a WR with one of their first 2 picks. From the Hawks cost analysis, a guy like Jones plus a rookie draft pick are a better way to spend the money that Tate received.

  39. Griz–I agree, that appears to be what PC and JS think. It is what it is. I just hope we get a really good BIG WR with one of those two picks. And with the second…a REAL RT, not a huge fat G masquerading as a blocking dummy for RDE’s!

  40. Dukeshire says:

When Rice makes a decision? What evidence is there to indicate there is a decision for him to make?

Georgia – Couldn’t agree more. I don’t have an active twitter account, so thankfully the Seahawk Insider blog has become *the* place second-hand tweeted information.

  41. grizindabox24 says:

Duke, I think the Rice speculation is coming from the reports that multiple teams seem to have interest. Read reports about Seattle, New Orleans, and New York Jets all being mentioned.

  42. Dukeshire says:

If that’s the case then those comments were worded very poorly. Because the insinuation was that the decision to return to Seattle.
