Denver coach John Fox and six of his Broncos met the Super Bowl media today, and if any bulletin board material emerged, I wasn’t within earshot as it happened.

Fox, for example, was asked if the Broncos are playing their best football of the season right now. He agreed that they might. Then added that he thinks the Seahawks are too. Then concluded that only what happens on Sunday really matters anyway.

Cornerback Dominique Rodges-Cromartie said he doesn’t resent the publicty that Seattle’s “Legion of Boom” secondary is getting, and that they deserve it.

Some Broncos notes:

Secondary respect
One of the stories proving irresistible to Super Bowl media this week is the Seattle Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” secondary.

Much less is being made of the Denver Broncos’ defensive backfield, but they say that’s fine with them.

“Any time you’re a corner and you’ve got guys like (Seattle has), I like it,” Denver cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie said Monday. “They’ve definitely been doing their thing this year, and you’ve got to give credit to them. In a way, they deserve to talk like that. They’ve proved it. I like it.”

Not surprisingly, the center of attention has been Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman.

“He’s a great corner, don’t get me wrong,” veteran Denver cornerback Champ Bailey said. “I think most of you guys notice that now because you hear about how much he talks. That’s the way he is. I enjoy guys with some personality. That’s him. I have no bad words to say about him. He’s a good player.”
Rodgers-Cromartie also had praise for Sherman, while also making clear he believes Denver receivers will up to the task ahead of them Sunday in Super Bowl XLVIII.

“I like Sherman, I really do,” he said. “But I know (Denver receiver) Demaryius Thomas) will be prepared to give him a handful. It’s going to be an interesting matchup.”

BOTH SIDES
This Super Bowl visit marks an especially enjoyable turnaround for linebacker Paris Lenon, who in 2008 was on the Detroit Lions team that went 0-16.
“I’ll say this: when you’re in a situation like that, you have a certain amount of guys that pack it in,” Lenon said. “That’s difficult for me because I’m not that type of person. I’m going to compete to the end, so that’s the most difficult part about being in a situation like that. Now, it’s a complete reversal. Thus far, we’ve had a very successful season. We still have one game ahead of us, and we have to put in the work.”

EXTRA POINTS
Denver’s Pro-Bowl kicker Matt Prater missed practice last week with the flu, but coach John Fox said he’s fine now. … The Broncos met the media Tuesday on the 210-foot cruse liner Cornucopia Majesty, docked near the team’s hotel in Jersey City, across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Afterward the team left for its first practice at the New York Jets training facility. “I’ve heard the facility is very good,” coach John Fox said. “Our operations guy tells me that the guys will be complaining that it is so much nicer than ours, so he is not real excited about it. But, we are looking forward to getting out there. We’ve heard nothing but great things.”…On Tuesday morning, the Broncos will take part in Media Day at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., home of the New Jersey Devils hockey team.

  1. Why are the broncos doing their press on a yacht? Little Pony Princesses getting the royal treatment? Sheesh

  2. Cromartie makes the dumbest statement of the week (saying he’ll even contemplate retiring)… so far.

    Where’s Stevens and Joey Porter?

  3. Blah, blah, blah.

The mind numbing banality of the pro bowl and Superbowl pre week is staggering. I am wearing out the NFC Championship game recorded on my PVR and dying for some real football.

  4. “Why are the broncos doing their press on a yacht?”

That’s where they are staying for the week. It’s their hotel.

  5. Don Ruiz says:

Actually, the Cornucopia Majesty is docked behind the Broncos’ nice, standard, on-dry-land hotel.
