NFL: Seattle Seahawks at New York Giants

The Seattle Seahawks got back on track Sunday with a 23-0 win over the New York Giants in New Jersey.

It was the team’s 12th win of the season, which ties the 1984 team for the second most in franchise history. Only the 2005 NFC championship team (13-3) had more. The Seahawks also set a franchise record by finishing 6-2 on the road this season.

The win pushes Seattle one step closer to locking up the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC. With two home games left, the Seahawks can clinch the top spot with one more win.

It wasn’t the prettiest game at times, but the defense dominated picking off Eli Manning five times and recording Seattle’s first shutout of the season.

Let’s get to some questions:

1. Who gets your game ball? Who is the goat?

2. Does the lackluster start worry you at all?

3. What impressed you most in the victory? What caused you concern?

4. With the two games left (ARIZ, STL) what do you hope to see from this team?

5. Which team poses the biggest threat to Seattle in the playoffs and why?

As always, don’t limit yourself to these questions. What else is on your mind?

  1. 1. game ball? I am going with Maxwell – that 2nd INT was amazing

    2. Does the lackluster start worry you at all? No not at all, The win is what matters – we are not a strike fast offense. Pete plays to keep the field in your favor they did that.

    3. What impressed you most in the victory? Shut out on the road – BRILLIANT –

    4. With the two games left (ARIZ, STL) what do you hope to see from this team? Win vs Arizona – Don’t care about STL if they do win. NO INJURIES

    5. Which team poses the biggest threat to Seattle in the playoffs and why? Philly style wise is the TYPE of team that has gassed this team for the last few years – SF always is a tough match up -

  2. seaturkeys says:

Does this clinch the NFC west as suggests?

  3. DisplacedSeahawkFan says:

I’d give the game ball to Byron Maxwell. The way he’s filled in for Brandon Browner and Walter Thurman is just amazing. There’s been no fall of at all in the secondary, and he’s a huge reason why.

The start was concerning. But I’d attribute it to traveling across country and playing a 10:00 a.m. game. That was our last 10:00 a.m. game. Moreover, hopefully that will be the last time we travel across country again until the Superbowl.

The only concern I have is our run game. I know teams are stacking the box against Marshawn. Still, we have to get better on the ground.

The two games left are an issue. I know we’ll beat Arizona next week. And if my understanding is correct, that means we clinch the NFC West title and the number one seed in the NFC. With that said, what do we do against St. Louis in the final game? Do we rest our starters and risk ruining our home field win streak? Or do we play everyone and risk an injury so close to the playoffs? I’m glad that that decision is not mines to make.

  4. We do NOT clinch NFC west today – we need one more win or SF loss to clinch.

  5. The Hawks D looks great. Their offense looks a little mediocre. Without Wilson they would be in trouble.

SF will be a tough playoff matchup, but that will be at home and the Hawks will win.

I think the Broncos are the only team that can beat the Hawks in the playoffs. If Manning has time to throw, Denver will put up points. The Hawks offense needs to get better for them to win a game where they have to score a lot.

  6. He said a win next week will clinch it. Not today.

  7. CDHawkFan says:

I was surprised by he folks looking for a big game from Marshaun, stopping the run is sometime he Giants have been good at.

  8. seaturkeys says:

“Seahawks clinch NFC West with victory over Giants” from

  9. seaturkeys says:

They should have to honor the statement.

  10. The best SF can do is tie us so we should have the division since we beat both Carolina and N.O. Right?

  11. dominant showing by our defense today. right now, they have no weaknesses. mebane was great today, among many others.

on offense, would be nice to see our run game get going again. it’s been a few games. but i’m not going to complain much about a dominating shutout on the road (in an early start no less) . . . right now, we look the part of the best team in the league. hopefully we can keep the momentum going through the end of the year.

also – nice to note – no injuries that I can recall today.

  12. 1. Game ball – Sherman. Goat – there are no goats ‘win’ you dominate.

    2. Life would be easier if they could take a 7-0 lead in the first few seconds of each game, but, no, I’m not too worried about it. There is a “feeling out” period in a lot of games.

    3. I was most impressed with how green the field was.

I was most concerned by the play of Wilson and Tate on a few passes/receptions (or supposed receptions) and how I hope each of them play better at that stadium in a few months against a much better team from the AFC than these deadbeat Giants are.

For having won a SB a few years ago, some of the remaining Giants played like they were waiting for the bank to open on Monday so they could cash their checks. I guess some of them have already won a SB ring so they don’t have to have any pride anymore. Congrats to the Hawks for showing them who their Daddy is and shame on the GMen for proving what losers and quitters they are at least with respect to ’13.

    4. I hope to see an undefeated home record.

    5. The only thing I can think of that can beat these Hawks is turnovers or the refs (as we saw with SB XL) or a situation where they are up by 1-6 with around two minutes remaining and the opposing offense had the ball.

I don’t think any team in the NFL can flat out beat this team (unless the defense is on the field late while the opponents have a chance to win). I’d put my life savings on the Hawks winning the Super Bowl if this were like baseball and a team had to win a best of seven series. As it is, “Any Given Sunday…”

  13. “The best SF can do is tie us so we should have the division since we beat both Carolina and N.O. Right?”

If the Hawks drop the last two games and the Niners win the last two, Niners will have a better division record. Division record is the tie breaker isn’t it?

  14. The best SF can do is tie us so we should have the division since we beat both Carolina and N.O. Right?

N0 – if we end up tied they will win becuase we have to lose to AR and STL to finish tied which means that SF would have a better division record and win.

  15. I was glad to see the blue pants today. The white pants are never good.

  16. I like the white/blue combo WAY better than white/white or blue/blue

I would love the Home uniforms to be Blue over the new gray!

  17. The one concern I do have it the OL – we have seen it before in the play-offs. a Dominate DL can stop an offense in the play-offs. If we don’t get consistent play an average DL will be able to control our offense.

any team in the play-offs is good enough to win one game – thats why I like it when we are hitting on all 3 phases. That way if one struggles you are still keeping in the game.

  18. Dukeshire says:

Game ball? Jeremy Lane. An underpart existed and dominant performance on special teams and at nickel.

    Goat? Uh, they won.

I disagree with the “lackluster start” comment. While the scoreboard didn’t reflect it, they dominated on both sides of the ball from the jump.

What I hope to see the next two are similarly dominant wins. And my hope is that they remain healthy.

To me, SF is their biggest threat. Simply because I believe they are the second best team in the NFC, and the two teams know each other so well. A close second is Carolina. They are for real, IMO. A very solid team.

  19. Is there really anyway we drop the last 2 at home? Hell no!!! GO Hawks

  20. Dukeshire says:

    Under-appreciated. Under part…?

  21. Dukeshire says:

Concern are penalties. Specifically, false starts, offsides, and game clock. Zero excuse for any of them and those three accounted for 5 today.

  22. Ewalters7354 says:

I guess Maxwell read Duke’s comment last week lol.Jeremy Lane is a monster.Percy Harvin on defense! This secondary is just too good. Not to mention Bobby Wagner has been wrecking havoc.

  23. hawkdawg says:

Thought Russell was a little off today in the pocket. Missed Zack in the endzone, and in the flat, and that pick was bad judgment. And offensive penalties were completely irritating and poorly timed,m and Golden needs to stay in bounds on scramble plays, when nobody is around to push him out. Should have put up 40.

But Lane and Maxwell were superb and the defense as a whole was lights out. One more…..

  24. Dukeshire says:

Lol. Maxwell sure had a turnaround game. Damn. Good for him! Very solid.

  25. seahawkfan97 says:

Not that I’m complaining about the refs and I’m really not, but why wasn’t the 2 helmet to helmet tackles called? One on Lynch and one on miller I believe… I thought this was a major emphasis and they were very obvious/loud. We have been getting hammered with these calls…. Great game…game ball to the entire defense…

  26. Dukeshire says:

The one on Lynch, in the 3rd quarter, off left guard, was so violent. Jesus…

  27. How much of RW was wind – I know it sounds like an excuse but have we really had too many days where there has been winds – maybe he didn’t adjust well.

DUKE – uniform question for you. Can they wear parts of the Wolf Grey’s and not count as “alternative” uniform? (i.e. the pants)

  28. seahawkfan97 says:

sorry forgot to ask if the refs are purposely not calling every little helmet contact anymore which I would be way in favor of. As Kam’s was way more vicious of a hit

  29. GeorgiaHawk says:

    1. I agree with xcman, it has to be Maxwell. I couldn’t believe some of the undeserved Maxwell bashing last week. Maxwell is clearly a baller!
    2. No, the Giants have a top ten defense.

    3. The ball hawking secondary. And the lack of push from the o-line.

    4. We have Arizona’s number so just stay focused.

    5. 49ers because they have proven they can win playoff games on the road.

  30. 1. Who gets your game ball? Who is the goat?
The entire Defense including the coordinator.

    2. Does the lackluster start worry you at all?
    A little

    3. What impressed you most in the victory? What caused you concern?
    A. The defense
    B. Is the Giant’s D really that good, our was our O a bit out of sink?

    4. With the two games left (ARIZ, STL) what do you hope to see from this team?
    A Superbowl victory

    5. Which team poses the biggest threat to Seattle in the playoffs and why?
    Uncertain. Probably N.O or SF

As always, don’t limit yourself to these questions. What else is on your mind?

    1. There has been a semi “controversy” on talk radio as to whether to resign Richard Sherman when he becomes an FA because of the big $’s involved for a CB. Don’t hesitate, do it. He may be the best CB in the NFL

    2. Why Is Robert Turbin getting almost all the snaps as Lynch’s back up? In limited action, Micheal seems to be much better. Is there something very negative about Michael I’m missing? IMO, Turbin isn’t very good. In fact yesterday, some national sports magazine gave Turbin a “D-” grade as a backup. Again, imo even more than Wilson, we’d be in big trouble if Lynch was injured.

Not to say Lynch is “better” than Wilson; more to say Tjack is better than Turbin.

  31. seaturkeys says:

    Go STL!

  32. 2. Why Is Robert Turbin getting almost all the snaps as Lynch’s back up?

EASY ANSWER – PC wants him there – PC has ALWAYS given the players that earn a chance to sign – a chance. Michael for one reason or another hasn’t EARNED the chance to be active. When he does – I am SURE that he will get that chance. They could easily keep one of the FB inactive for a game if they thought Michael could contribute to the overall game plan. Clearly the coaching staff hasn’t found a place for him to do that.

  33. Our offense sucks!! They sucked last week as well. What’s going on Cable. To many false starts no run blocking. Go Hawks!!

  34. O’yeah RW still running for his life. Get it together O-line!!!

  35. Michael did get a few snaps in 1 game. Don’t remember which.

  36. Dukeshire says:

Maxwell had a simply awful game last week, that’s the reason for the “bashing”.

Look, when Seattle has Chancellor, Thomas, and Kearse playing special teams (coverage) Michael will continue to be inactive unless he fights his way into a role where he is versatile. It’s not complicated, IMO.

  37. Dukeshire says:

xcman – I don’t think so. The “Wolfs” are considered alternate, so I believe any part of them has been used up, for the year.

  38. Dukeshire says:

The Rams taking it to NO. The next two aren’t gimmies, y’all.

  39. Duke – thats why I want to take care of business vs Arizona – not a gimmie BUT We have played better agains Arizona than STL so lets clinch next Sunday and play Carefree in Week 17

  40. 1. game ball? ML & SEA-D. goat? WR drops & OL penalties…
    2. lackluster start? Nah, early east coast game, not too bad of a start…
    3. what impressed? DBs, interior DL pass-rush, replacement LBs play, concern? OL blkg…
    4. with two games left, what to hope for? 2 good wins…
    5. biggest playoff threat to SEA? Injuries…
    6. what else? Can we-all party during the SB in your press booth TD?

  41. GB just got a no flag on something that Seattle would be flagged for almost every time. More of a contact than Maxwell made last week – Aikman was oh that should be a penalty, this week “pretty good no call there”

Tell me there is no biases out there – and if you do provide your proof

  42. montanamike2 says:

I’ll have to come back when i’m coherent, time to lay down. Awesome game!
1 game closer i can feel it, it’s gonna be a great week.

  43. STL converted an on side kick up 14-0 in the first quarter. WOW -

  44. GeorgiaHawk says:

Maxwell didn’t have an awful game last week. He didn’t play as well as he did against the Saints or this week against the Giants but it would be very hard to find a DB on our team that has played much better in a three game stretch then Maxwell.

I won’t be upset at all if Browner and Thurmond continues to sit and Maxwell continues to start.

  45. Maxwell has improved and was great today. I think he showed better technique but the Giants WRs were average at best. From what I’ve seen, I still prefer Lane opposite Sherman on a long term basis.

Wrong about Tate…kind of. He could’ve been a difference maker, but lost the ball in the sun, lost track of the sideline, lost track of a gunner that almost had his lunch on a ball he probably should’ve fair caught. He was lost. I don’t expect it to last moving forward, but with Percy out, I think Baldwin is now the #1 WR, most reliable.

Wilson was off. Missed a lot of throws he usually makes.

Lynch ran hard. Turbin was Turbin.

Defense will get the pub and rightfully so, but Jon Ryan and Hauschka are the best at their position and Lane or Kearse are always around the ball on kicks.

Solid game. I think Bevell kept some plays out of this game and will unleash them come playoff time.

Harvin sure would be nice to have in January. Get him healthy.

This game feels good to get.

P.S. The stat about R Dub becoming only the 3rd QB in NFL history to throw for 50 TDs in his first 2 years along with Manning and Marino was pretty cool.

  46. Wonder where Rutgers’ WR Brandon Coleman will land in the draft? He’s 6-6/220 and is ranked 10th by WalterFootball.

  47. We need a WR with those dimensions. Stephen Williams was an intriguing project. I was sorry to lose him to Jax.

  48. MikeFromNewJersey says:

Great game today because its never easy winning on the road..We need to get our offense going. The giants defense actually played well today holding us to 23 but we need more..Our defense dominated today. What great depth we have.. Browner ,WTIII and KJ out, no problem next man up.

And finally big props to the 12th man for showing up today, all you guys and gals impressed me with the turnout and enthusiasm.. I have seen the hawks play at the meadowlands 6 times in my life and only ever saw a few fans there each time..Today we have a couple thousand. Great turnout!

  49. chuck_easton says:

    Duke and xcman,

It is only the alternate jerseys that can only be worn twice.

They can wear the grey pants as much as they want and they have worn the grey pants with both the blue and whit jerseys.

  50. GeorgiaHawk says:

Saints showing up on the road as usual. Glad I picked them to lose on the pigskin pick em.

    And Flynn continues to suck.

I think we will wrap (HFA) up next week against the Cardinals. Not so sure we will beat the Rams the following week, Especially if Jackson plays a lot.

  51. Does the NFL usually test for PEDs, etc. before or after the game (or both?) Do they test every player prior to the SB?

Lacy is running well for GB…

  52. chuck_easton says:

6-2 road record. Best in Seattle’s 38 year history.

Wilson passes Rothlisberger for most wins by a QB in his first two years.

Still one more first for Seattle I want to see, but that opportunity is getting closer.

  53. SandpointHawk says:

Maxwell indeed redeemed himself this week, some folks might want to go back and review last weeks game after they sober up. But game ball goes to Sherman whose presence makes it possible for Maxwell & Lane to shine and he had two interceptions and an assist on Earls…

  54. bsinnitt says:

I’m curious to see who is going to come out of the AFC this year. The media pundits are always so eager to crown Manning and Brady but it seems like a year that whatever team gets hot at the end will win the AFC. There’s a long ways to go until the Super Bowl but being one win away from HFA has me looking/dreaming ahead. I think we match up favorably against any of the pass heavy offenses and it would take a balanced offense with a good defense to match up with us. The only team that fits that description in the AFC appears to be the Bengals. I think it’s likely that our Seahawks!! Clinch the division and the 2 seed on the 9ers field.toughest post season game including the Super Bowl would be the divisional round against SF or CAR and I love our chances against either one because either of their QBs, Kaepernick or Newton, will more than likely struggle at C-link. Anyway, enough looking ahead. Let’s whoop up on the Cards and put a hurting/embarrassment on Docket while we’re at it.

  55. bsinnitt says:

Whoops, accidentally pasted a text from last week in there. Obviously the clinching at SF sentence in the middle should be omitted. Go Hawks!!

  56. Hawkenstein says:

I’m a little concerned with the run game. Lynch hasn’t had that many yards since the Atlanta game. I know teams are focusing on him but still the stats aren’t impressive.

  57. raymaines says:

SF and Carolina are teams that concern me. Philadelphia and Cincinnati aren’t. No team that passes a lot concerns me.

The O-Line concerns me. Stupid penalties concern me. Pretty much nothing else concerns me.

As others have said, I think RW had a really off day, but still got a three TD win. That gives us something to chat about next week, but not much to worry about really.

You can’t spell “Giants” without the letters I, N, & T. Eli threw 31 passes, NYG receivers caught 18, 8 hit the ground and Seahawks caught 5. And yes, Pete Carroll is a defensive minded coach, thank you for asking.

Please God, please tell me JS&PC have a plan to improve the O-Line in next Aprils draft.

  58. EzraMelech says:

I’ve posted previously about refs. There seems to be some serious inconsistency between crews. One Ref crew makes calls one way, and another completely different. My only complaint today was the call on Earl Thomas I think it was for the defenseless receive crap. Yet 2 obvious helmet to helmet hits by the giants on us were not called.

Again, Refs are human and seeing many calls at full speed can be challenging. I just wish there was more consistency and clarity with the refs, This one crew does it one way and another crew does it another is frustrating.

Even with how the rules are now (although I hate the flag football crap) if it was at least consistent across the board I would deal with it. It seems though because of our aggressiveness we get crappy end of the stick most of the time, and other teams and players seem to get away with it.

  59. GeorgiaHawk says:

Why does Maxwell have to redeem himself from having a touchdown saving INT last week?
Refs were calling things close last week against the 9ers thanks probably to Harbough and his constant harping.

To say Maxwell was awful in the 9er game is ridiculous. Especially when you can point the finger to Thomas and Sherman for helping give up the big play that cost us the win in San Francisco.

  60. raymaines says:

N.O. continues to lose. 10:30 left in the forth quarter STL up 27-9. That would leave Seattle up two games with two games to go and we have the tie breaker. S.F. continues to be a pain in the butt, but Seattle is in the proverbial drivers seat. Go Hawks.

  61. No QB in NFL history has won more games in his first two years than Russell Wilson.

No rookie QB has ever thrown for more TD’s than Wilson did in his rookie season. And he did it on a team that was dead last in the NFL in pass attempts.

No QB in NFL history has thrown for more TDs in his first two seasons than Russel Wilson. And he still has two games left.

The Seahawks could have a dynasty with Russell Wilson, if they get him some better WR’s and improve the offensive line.

  62. chuck_easton says:

The good news, Seattle is still the only NFC team to have clinched a playoff spot.

The bad news, they still haven’t clinched the division, first round bye, or HFA.

Arizona is coming in next week playing for their playoff lives. Going to be a fun game.

I’m going to be at the game with the teenager next week. Would love to watch them wrap all three with the win.

The last thing anybody wants is the 49rs sneaking in and taking the division and a first round bye.

  63. I need to go back and rewatch the game but Lynch looks slow to the hole.

  64. raymaines says:

rbuzby sez: No QB in NFL history has thrown for more TDs in his first two seasons than Russel Wilson.

Well except for Peyton Manning (52)and Dan Marino (58).

Please folks, don’t be too hard on me. I pulled these numbers out of my foggy memory and my memory is has been proven to be weak at best. Where’s KLM when I need him?

  65. chuck_easton says:

You are correct. Wilson still trails Payton and Marino. But that is some rarified company to be in. A HOFer and the likely 2013 MVP and future HOFer.

  66. Dukeshire says:

Georgia – While he did have a pick last week, he played awfully. There is no way to get around it. He had a really good game today, but as they say, tape don’t lie.

  67. aymaines

Thanks for the correction. Still, it is amazing that only Manning and Marino threw more TD’s in their first two years than Wilson did, especially since Wilson is on a team that is last or almost last in pass attempts for those two years.

  68. Dallas is so awful. They are struggling to finish off a weak GB team at home.

AZ is blowing it too. Titans forced over time.

  69. GeorgiaHawk says:

Duke- He may have had a couple so-called awful plays but so did Thomas and Sherman.
Small sample size for sure, but now we have a three game sample size and it looks pretty good.

  70. GeorgiaHawk says:

Damn, Flynn is playing very good. Good for him.

  71. Flynn- 300 yards 4 td’s= not sucking.

  72. Dallas is a joke.

  73. MikeFromNewJersey says:

Hey Pabs, I think beast runs better with a FB, Very surprised they haven’t used MRob more on offense.

  74. NFC West is 4-0 today. The best division in football this year.

AZ and STL started slow, but have it going pretty good now.

  75. Haha Dallas!

Love to see them stink it up so bad!

  76. Dallas is going to end up as the worst Defense in NFL History.

  77. There is no D in Dallas, so I’ll call them Allas.

  78. Dallas O stinks too, when it really matters…….another Romo INT in crunch time.

  79. The whole NFCE lost today.

  80. SandpointHawk says:

Might be a good time for Matt Flynn to retire…just saying…

  81. I didn’t realize the Eagles D was so putrid. They gave up 48 points to the pathetic Vikings, who have no QB or running back or good players on defense.

  82. chuck_easton says:

And the NFCW is the best division in the NFL with a combined record of 37-19.

Next week is going to be another dogfight. I’m so glad it’s at our house.

  83. chuck_easton says:

The NFCW has come a long way from three years ago when Seattle won the division with a 7-9 record.

  84. Time to end the Cardinals run.

  85. The way STL beat NO today, I don’t see how they’re only 6-8.

  86. I read somewhere that Jeff Fisher has taken a bigger role in working with Rams defense, and that is why they are suddenly playing like people thought they would.

  87. About MIN – AP didn’t play today. PHI’s D should have been better than that(?)

  88. Truly dominant defense but a moderately sputtering offense. Run blocking is a problem and teams are loading the box to stop Lynch first. Wilson played decently well today overall but some key misses on throws and at least two very bad decisions dropped his grade today. The Giants D played with spirit. The offense is surely not on a roll like last year. It is obvious that SF is the danger in the NFC, they are playing very well…I’d argue Kap is playing better than Wilson right now. They are trouble, even in Clink. Right now, the 49ers are playing better than anyone else in the league.

Finally, we could really use Percy Harvin. Not that our WRs are playing poorly, and he isn’t an O-lineman…but this offense desperately needs a weapon and a spark. They are slogging. They need to surge…Harvin is weapon and a threat that will get the attention of defenses that are selling out to stop our running game – and successfully at that.

  89. Harvin is needed indeed. The Seahawks don’t have a WR that can pick up cheap yards for Wilson. Baldwin is by far the most valuable WR because of his consistency.

Hopefully whatever is ailing Lynch can be corrected. This is the same line he ran for 100 yards with nearly weekly last year. Now he’s feast or famine with few 100 yard games to show for it.

  90. HawkFromDay1 says:

What does a guy have to do to get a multiyear deal outta John Schneider???

Is my point unclear? These guys do NOT grow on trees. 280 with that quickness and can play anywhere on the line – yeah, God only makes so many… to reiterate:

Your move Scheindaroll… do what makes sense.

  91. When we see Wilson “miss” a throw like he did to Miller in the end zone, a lot of times what we are actually seeing is him throwing it exactly where he intended to.

Most of the time Wilson is extremely careful. He throws it so only his guy has a chance, or throws it somewhere it cannot be intercepted, and hopes his guy can make the play.

  92. And Flynn continues to suck . . . . . How is it he can not do anything consistently but DAMN he has 2 amazing games on his resume. He did something today that Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers have NEVER done – win in Dallas. I don’t get it.

CHUCK – where are your seats? should be a great game – (and thanks on the uniform update – I still wish they wore the W.Grey pants more)

  93. HawkFromDay1

Bennett has been great. He gets to the QB, and that is huge.

  94. MikeFromNewJersey says:

My biggest concern is LG.. Russell took some hits today because Carp and McQ struggle at pass blocking. Not sure what can be done at this point in the season.

I think the pants don’t count i.e. when they speak of home and away and alternate, they are only talking about blue, white and grey tops. They can mix and match any pants they want.

  96. A shutout in a 10am game! A rare treat! Isn’t it nice here on the weekends, apparently he doesn’t have a computer at home.

Xcman. We got nosebleed seats. Section 325.

  98. chuck_easton says:

And not to turn this into a fashion blog, but the choice of pant colour has to do with the colour the home team is wearing.

Today the Giants were in grey pants so Seattle went with blue. If the home team wears white pants Seattle will wear blue.

It has to do with helping the guys in the trenches tell who the good guys and bad guys are. If you are going to drag down a runner from inside the scrum, or if you are going for a cut block, you don’t always seehe jersey or the helmet. The colour of the pants may be all you have to go off of.

  99. I am in 326 row I – It is a great section – loud rowdy – but truth be told a little drunk many times.

At the end of the quarter there is a guy who takes his shirt off EVERY game – so if you hear the shave that back chant – look into section 326 about 10 rows up. rain – shine – snow – you name it, it has happened every game for about 9 years now.

    I hope you enjoy

  100. The more I look at it the more it looks like SF will be here for our first play-off game. I can’t see them losing to either the East or Central Winner – where ever they play and I don’t see NO winning on the road at all (meaning they will lose division to Carolina)

Top 2 teams in the NFC (maybe NFL) play each other in round 2, since they are in the same division.

  101. I like the gray pants and wish we would wear them at home more often – I don’t like the blue on blue all the time.

  102. I too think Lane deserves a game ball. Maxwell, Wagner, Smith, Sherm.

Lynch has the same line, but even Unger and Okung aren’t playing well, and the rest of them are not playing up to last years benchmark either. Lynch may be slowing, but he’s still a better player at his position than anyone on the line.

  103. Georgia–We all like Maxwell, but his pick didn’t excuse a spotty performance overall vs the Niners. He played much better today. But Lane was the real standout.

God I love games like this. I only wish two of the field goals would have been TD’s. This was a down and dirty butt kicking that could have only been worse.

Seriously, give me three hours and seven days to get ready for the Cardinals and I’ll be ready to bet the farm on the Seahawks.

I feel conflicted whining about the O-Line while cheering for a team that’s 12-2 and third in the NFL in rushing yardage. Yeah, it’s a weakness. Sort of. Really? The Cards are doomed.

  105. trout_hound says:

Great dominating win. Especially our D. Boom! Didnt like the sacks. Tate’s drop was obviously the sun. Arizona next week, and unfortunately for the Cards Fitzgerald has a concussion. 5 interceptions of Palmer? Go Hawks!

  106. rramstad says:

xcman, you wrote “Top 2 teams in the NFC (maybe NFL) play each other in round 2, since they are in the same division.”

    This is absolutely not correct.

If SF ends up the five seed, they likely will not play here until the next round. There’s no accounting for divisions once teams get in the playoffs. If the six seed wins in the wild card round, they play at the one seed in the divisional. If the three seed wins in the wild card round, they play at the two seed in the divisional, and the other game winner is at the one.

There is a scenario where — and IMHO it’s actually reasonably likely — SF is the five seed, Carolina or NO is the six, and three and four are NFC East and NFC North. If both advance, then Carolina or NO would play here divisional round, and SF would play at the NFC South winner i.e. NO or Carolina.

Again, might be reading into your post, but there’s NO structure that says if there are two teams from the same division left after wild card weekend that they have to play each other. Nothing like that at all.

  107. rramstad says:

If it wasn’t clear, I think we’re the best team in the NFC, followed by the 49ers, then the Panthers, then the Saints. You could swap those last two, but I think all four are better than any team in the North or East. Of course any given Sunday but I could see both wild card teams advancing.

  108. We are actually saying the same thing! I think they will be the lowest remaining seed after the wild card round – meaning they come to Seattle in round 2

I think Seattle will be #1 and Carolina #2.

If Carolina beats NO and comes #2 then NO will be #6 since they will have one more loss than SF.

So SF goes to #4 and I don’t care who #4 is – SF wins
NO goes on the road to #3 and losses cause they can’t win on the road against a decent team

    SO round 2 – #5 at #1 (SF at Seattle) and #3 @ #2 (somebody @ Carolina)

Am I missing something? So in that case SF is @ Seattle in the 2nd round of the play-offs – Top 2 teams in the NFC and maybe in the NFL playing in round 2 -

  109. IF they weren’t in the same division they would play during the NFC championship game as the 1 and 2 seeds (IMO)

  110. I mentioned this in the chat, but here’s the full scoop.

Had to be some serious nailbiting going on late in the 4th, but I think Sherman and ET won themselves a few more solid fans with that end-zone INT.

  111. Ok the more I think about it . . . . ..

If NO wins the South I think we face SF in the NFC championship game at home, but if Carolina wins the division I think we will play SF in the Divisional round. (since NO probably can’t win a road game – quite possibly in Detroit or Chicago)

So – I am thinking that I want NO to win at Carolina next week (low chance I know) BUT – I think that puts SF on road to Det or Chicago, which I believe they can win and Carolina in Philly (which I also think they can win)

That would mean Carolina comes to Seattle and SF to NO (where they lost earlier) Because I don’t think Carolinas offense is good enough to win here. Then it comes down to SF and NO. If SF wins – then they would have 3 tough road games – hopefully being tired by the time we get here!!

    just my thoughts

  112. I think the Hawks beat any team in the Clink if they play a fairly good game. I believe the Whiners are the 2nd best team in the NFC.

Here’s a question. If the Hawks win next week, how much do you play the starters against the Rams?

I’d say you have to give them a quarter to a half to avoid too much of a lay off.

  113. HawkFromDay1 says:

Only thing better than Sherm’s pick at the end, was Bobby Wagner tackling him. Not only was it hilarious, it was also the correct play.
