Locker disappointed, but hoping to make trip

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker said he is mostly moving around without crutches now, but he’s certainly not ready to play the Seahawks this weekend.

Locker still has a brace on his hip after being injured two weeks ago. The Titans come to Seattle on Sunday then host the 49ers before having a bye week. After the bye week, they are hopeful Locker may be looking at a return.

“It’s tough,” Locker said. “I was really looking forward to having the opportunity to play there and play in front of family and friends. It’s hard.”

Locker said he’s just trying to get back as soon as possible.

He was off to his best start since being drafted No. 8 overall in 2011 out of Washington. Locker was completing 62.2 percent of his passes under new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. A year after throwing 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, Locker had thrown six touchdowns and no interceptions this season.

“I felt really confident,” Locker said. “There’s a difference in what we’re doing offensively. I think the mindset of everybody on this side of the ball is a little different this year.”

Titans head coach Mike Munchak said he thought Locker benefited from being the clear starting quarterback through the offseason and into the summer. Munchak also said they went out to get some personnel that suited Locker’s strengths.

“It was more his team,” Munchak said. “He’s very comfortable with the progressions, and where to go with the football and you saw it during training camp, you saw it in preseason games, he just continued to be better and better with where to put the ball.

“It’s disappointing whenever you lose your quarterback, but especially for him. People were starting to see what we always saw here during training camp and the season making those types of plays. It was disappointing. Took the wind out of us a little bit, recovering from that led to a very slow start last weekend.”

Locker has a 14-month-old daughter, Colbie. Other than that, he says, not much has changed for him. Outside of living his childhood dream of being an NFL quarterback.

“It’s fun,” Locker said. “It’s challenging. It’s a new challenge every day. It’s something I’m very thankful for. I love having this opportunity and just going to continue to grow and hope to enjoy it as long as possible.”

  1. yankinta says:

I’m disappointed too…. but hopefully he’ll be able to return and show the world on National TV on Nov 14 (against the Colts) that he has just as much Potential as Andrew Luck,,, I’m picking the Titans over the Colts to win the division….if Jake doesn’t have any set backs in his come back from his injury and he’s healthy enough to return to early season form. :)

  2. GeorgiaHawk says:

I’m so glad Locker is getting better. He had such crappy coaching and a terrible team to play with at the UW and he still provided some great highlights and 4th qtr comebacks.
In fact Locker had more 4th qtr comebacks then Luck did in College, but of course Luck didn’t have as many opportunities because his team was well coached and loaded with talent and usually several TDs ahead by the 4th qtr.

  3. yankinta says:

Yup Yup, Lock had one of the worst O-Line in College and Luck had the Best O-Line in College Football, hands down. Stanford averaged close to 210 yds a game in 2011, all from their running backs…. and one of the best Defenses too.

  4. GeorgiaHawk says:

yankinta- Locker is too injury prone in College and Pro. Hopefully he will get smarter at not sacrifice his body so much moving forward.

He’s more fun to watch then Luck but Luck is like a TE ( body wise ) and has an incredible drive and football IQ.
I like Locker however I think he has a ways to go before I would put him up there with Luck. Or Wilson for that matter.

  5. ChrisHolmes says:

Locker never had, and never will have. Lucks’ football IQ or accuracy.

Locker’s an athletic kid, but I never thought his game would translate well to the NFL level. This year is the first year it seemed like maybe he was going to put it together, then he gets hurt. Jury is still out I think. But the change in OC seems to have helped.

  6. It’s incredible when you look at Luck and realize he has the same physical measurables as Cam Newton. It will also allow him to withstand the abuse that comes with playing QB much better than Locker.

Staying healthy is just as important as any other QB trait. And Locker just doesn’t seem to have it.

  7. Ewalters7354 says:

Titans will not win the South sorry. The Colts are the real deal and the Texans are a team that can get hot at anytime.Just because you Like Locker doesn’t make the Titans contenders. This guy is not all that good.I never seen potential in Locker that I’ve seen in Luck.

  8. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, I didn’t put him up there. Just trying to compare the two QB in college… I don’t know about Football IQ between the two since I have not seen enough of Jake due to injuries. But he’s finally been able to stay healthy and put together,,, in fact he’s played better in their first 4 games than Luck,, just compare the numbers and wins,, that’s a fact, not an opinion. :)

I do think Jake has just as much potential as Luck (but definitely not as Lucky).

Ewalters7354, don’t be sorry. Colts are not the real deal, imo. Let’s talk again in mid season. :)

pabuwal, I don’t think it’s about withstanding the abuse. Jake has taken some weird/vicious hits in the NFL for some reasons. No one can withstand those kinds of freaky hits. Not even Cam Newton…

  9. Good story about Baldwin & AC last thread. On the field Baldwin often reminds me of Largent. I hope our young overlooked tackles turn out that well.

  10. ChrisHolmes says:

We’ve lived through our share of injury-plagued seasons. So it’s not hurting my feelings one bit to see Atlanta suffer.

  11. GeorgiaHawk says:

I sure hope Locker beats the injury thing and becomes a very good QB in the NFL for a long time.

And I’m not a Luck fan at all. Especially when the media hails him as the greatest thing since Peyton Manning after he wins a few games, however I have to admit that he is almost on a par with Wilson as the best young QB in the NFL right now.

BTW- What is that dead animal he keeps wearing under his chin and around his neck? get rid of it! It’s gross.

Oh oh, The Titans found a chink in the armor.

Check out the first comment by a Seahawks fan here. Lol.

  12. Hi…. I just heard that the 49ers Aldon Smith is now facing felony weapons charges.

  13. I see that Ruskell is working for the Titans. Maybe he could get promoted and then screw up and let us sign M. Roos!

  14. yankinta says:

blueshq, I would much rather sign Kenny Britt for cheap short term like Cliff, in the off season when he becomes available. I’m pretty sure we are not gonna keep Rice at that price.

  15. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, I’m a fan of Luck but I just don’t think he’s as good as the brainwashed people think, (btw, that’s 99% of the fans). :)

  16. Dukeshire says:

Now you’re a fan of Luck. lol. That’s hilarious.

  17. yankinta says:

Dukeshire, you’re the hilarious one. you just like to make assumptions about me without any hard evidence…. I never said I wasn’t a fan. I always only said he’s way overrated and he’s NOT on the same Level as RW…. don’t wanna have to go through explaining it to you again,, so I will just smh… smh…

  18. GeorgiaHawk says:

yankinta- When are you going to admit that you are totally wrong about Luck?
    Sooner or later?

  19. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, wrong? how am I wrong? please elaborate… you’re saying he’s better than RW or that he’s a Top 5 QB??

  20. yankinta says:

Man, a few of these Ignorant Idiots on ESPN are copying me and picking Chargers over Colts!! makes me smh….

  21. GeorgiaHawk says:

yankinta- They are very close. Neck and Neck imo. Of course I’m biased toward Wilson.

I think the top Four QBs right now are-

    1- Peyton Manning.
    2- Drew Brees.
    3- Aaron Rodgers.
    4- Tom Brady.
    Not necessarily in that order.

After that You can make a case for several QBs rounding out the top ten however I would take either Luck or Wilson at the #5 spot.

And I would surely include them both in the top ten right now. So yes you are clearly wrong imo.

  22. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk,, lol, In the off season, when this subject came up,, cuz I disagreed with Jaws QB rankings,,, what I said was Luck is average (Top 15 QB) with potential to move into Top 10,, but he doesn’t have enough accuracy to move into Top 5 QB. So, I am NOT wrong at all. He’s played like a Top 10 so far but it’s still very early in the season.

RW on the other hand was a Top 5 QB last season, imo. And I have Stats to back that up. :)

  23. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk,, Do you think if Luck was put into RW’s place against Houston game, we’d win that game?? Because I seriously doubt any of the other 31 QB can do what he did,, therefore they’re not neck to neck,, if you consider the pass protection and weapons around him.

btw, they both have top 10 Defenses so that excuse is no longer valid. :)

  24. Ewalters7354 says:

Honestly I give Luck the nod.He makes all throws on a consistent basis. As RW showed last week, every game he has throws where he misses his receivers badly. He also reads one side of the field too long leaving open pass catchers on the other side. He’s only gonna get better but so is Luck. But they are by far the two most seasoned young QBs.

  25. GeorgiaHawk says:

yankinta- Last year was last year, this year is this year, and Luck is playing like a top five QB so far, so yes you are wrong. In fact it won’t be too long(after Brady and Manning retires) before Luck and Wilson have squatting rights to being in the top five for a decade.

  26. pabuwal says:

Luck is pretty good at getting away from pressure.

The Seahawks Defense was destroyed by both Luck and Schaub in 4 of the 8 quarters they faced them and allowed an average of 24 points to them (excluding the blocked FG returned for a TD).

  27. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, I guess I disagree with you on Luck. He’s not Top 5, so far this season. To start out with, I’ll give you 2 QBs you ignored. Therefore I’m not wrong about Luck. :)

    Romo – 72% completion, 1523 yards, 13TD, 2 ints 114rating
    Rivers – 74% completion, 1610 yards, 13TD, 5 ints 110rating

Ewalters7354, sorry but I think you’re brainwashed by ESPN., :)

  28. doubledink says:

Now Duke, you just assumed he was not a fan of Luck by all of the ink he has spilled about how bad Luck really is due to projected interceptions (they are more important than real ones) and how he is propped up by his teammates, ESPN and all of their sheeplike followers.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

  29. Luck looked great against us last week; won the game for them w/his ability to keep plays alive and make good throws under pressure. Not sure what holes he has in his game? Plus, it does matter as pabs points out, that he’s got the kind of frame that seems likely to withstand the years of hits every QB takes.

Russell is awesome, but I doubt there’s a GM in the league who would swap Luck for him.

The big 4 that Georgia notes are hard to argue against – but Luck/RW are right there behind them these days, which is an amazing win for us given the spots they were drafted.

  30. yankinta says:

lol, if you gonna sound ignorant, then at least get it right. It’s adjusted interceptions,,, not projected interceptions… smh… on a second thought,, nvm… you’re doing great, dude. :)

  31. I like PB and Honey better than PB and J. It helps me poop better. Smh… :)

  32. yankinta says:

LOL,,Wow, according to this rankings by respected,, Michael Bowie (7th round pick Rookie) has been our STUD O-Lineman…. in the first quarter of 2013…. smh,,

This speaks a lot to what RW has been able to get us to 4-1 (and that one loss should have been a win)…. I rest my case. :)

pdway, I think JS/PC would not do that Swap,, but I see your point. Time will tell, I guess. :)

  33. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, I’m still waiting for you to tell me, How Luck has been better than Romo or Rivers in the first 5 games of this season?? I’ve given you facts not opinions… :)

  34. Ewalters7354 says:

Brainwashed by Espn?Lol now that’s funny. You only speak for yourself when you share those off the chart opinions.Just sharing mine :)

  35. Ewalters7354 says:

Maybe because the Colts are 4-1?Without Luck they would probably be 1-4.I guess any QB can be 4-1 with that current Colts roster right? :)

  36. GeorgiaHawk says:

yankinta- How did the end of Romo’s last game end? How did Lucks?.
You see there is more then just overall sats that tell you how good a QB is.
If you had a team in the Super Bowl would you honestly choose Romo over Eli?

  37. Ewalters7354 says:

I would Georgia.I always thought Eli was average, just like Flacco. He wasn’t the reason they won the Super Bowl. His team playing better around his did.imo

  38. GeorgiaHawk says:

Like I said, After the top four You can make a case for several QBs rounding out the top ten however I would take either Luck or Wilson at the #5 spot.
Romo and Rivers would be two of the QBs that I would consider rounding out the top ten however they are not clutch like Wilson and Luck are. Last year or this year.

  39. GeorgiaHawk says:

Ewalters7354- So you are saying you would rather have Romo in a game winning drive(in a big game) then Eli?
I would rather have Big Ben on a game winning drive then Romo.
I don’t think I ever saw a QB so clutch at the end of the Super Bowl (Two times now) then Eli.

Romo is the biggest modern day QB choker in the NFL in big games.

  40. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk,, no that’s not what you said. You said only this season, and this season so far means all 5 games. You’re right about more than Stats,, Defenses help QB as well as the quality of opponents. But if the Diff between Stats are HUGE, then I think you’re can’t say out right that Luck has been better than Romo or Rivers,, whose Defenses SUCK. now that’s another fact. :)

And you think because of Luck, Colts beat us. I guess I disagree, there were many other factors that helped the Colts win that game,, not just Luck. Meaning, if we play that game over 10 times, Seahawks win 7-8 out of 10 games, imo…even with Ron Winter’s Ref Crew…

  41. yankinta says:

Ewalters7354,, yes I can count about 10 QB’s that’d be 4-1 with that Colts Roster and especially with that Colts Schedule…

  42. yankinta says:

Ewalters7354, let me guess, you think the Colts will win against the Chargers on Monday night, right?? We should talk again on Tuesday. :)

  43. GeorgiaHawk says:

I don’t care how well Romo pads his stats this year he is a choker. And he is playing in the weakest divison in the NFL.

Again how did he finish the game against the Broncos.
I don’t want him on my team at all when the game is on the line, and that’s what I mean when I say I would put Luck and Wilson ahead of him for this year.

Actually Luck and Wilson would easily crack the top 3 if you just counted the 4th qtr this year.

  44. Ewalters7354 says:

Georgia,I would choose Romo over Eli in any case.Just shows how much I like Eli…He’s considered clutch but will by all means throw a game away like last week.I would also choose Big Bum over any of them because he is definitely clutch.

yakinta, are you telling me the Chargers are good? The same team that allowed the Houston Texans with a depressed Matt Schaub at QB?Yea we’ll have this discussion Tuesday. Can’t wait :)

  45. Ewalters7354 says:

    to win*

  46. Profootballfocus: Bowie has a crappy rating. He’s a stud by process of elimination. Thats like calling Wood, Corn or Liver flavored Ice Cream “Good” if there’s nothing else to hand. His rating is +0.7. Not exactly scintillating.

And funny how this site also says “the JR Sweezy experiment is just not working”. But Im crazy and a fool for saying it. Whatever.

Whats really sad is they rank our offensive line WORSE THAN JACKSONVILLE’S!! Next to last in the league. This is the line everyone has been insisting isnt as bad as Ive been saying?!

Carrol, Cable, and the linemen oughtta be ashamed!

  47. To put Bowie’s–and our entire offensive line’s–performance in perspective, Daryn Colledge of AZ has a rating of +3.6. Our best lineman is Bowie at +0.7.

  48. GeorgiaHawk says:

STTBM- Say that to Staton over at SeahawksDraftBlog. That’s right you can’t. Lol.

  49. GeorgiaHawk says:

And STTBM, the Steelers won a Super Bowl recently with arguably the worst O-line in the NFL. So perhaps there is hope.

  50. doubledink says:

I think the more accurate term would be “wanna-be interceptions”

  51. doubledink says:

How about “woulda, coulda, shoulda” interceptions. Or, “Interceptions to talk and whine about that never really happened.”

  52. Georgia–I can say it to him, and he’ll read it–he just wont let it post to comments, the Flucker! God, he’s an asshat!

I know it burns you too man!

The Stealers offensive line was nowhere near this bad. And they didnt have the Twin Liabilities at G, Fat Carp and the Sweezebag…

  53. GeorgiaHawk says:

STTBM- But we do have a couple pro bowlers coming back so hopefully something will start kicking in before the playoff run.

  54. doubledink says:

Why don’t you tell us how you really feel. lol

  55. Georgia–We’ll see how it goes. Im not sure when Okung will be back, but bet your butt its before he’s 100%. Same with Unger–dudes not been himself all year.

doubledink–I believe in calling a spade a spade. Our offensive line is historically awful. They MUST improve, immediately and dramatically.

  56. GeorgiaHawk says:

Funny now how folks are calling Carpenter fat. I’ve been saying that since we drafted him.

  57. MoSeahawk12 says:

Didn’t we play the Colts last week? Yet someone manages to start another Luck tread. Someone has a serious crush.

  58. I’ve been calling him Fat Carp for awhile, Georgia. Sometimes I try to check the pessimism regarding his future…this year is it though; it’s put up or shut up time for him.

  59. GeorgiaHawk says:

STTBM- And to think some here actually thought he would make a good RT. Lol.
Carpenter is good at one thing right now and that is moving his big body straight forward when run blocking. He is showing very little lateral movement.
I’m afraid Carp is going to be one of many who has simply ate themselves out of the NFL.

    Prove us wrong Carp!

  60. MoSeahawk12 says:

Indy is the real deal as they took out the top two teams in the NFC West one on the road and us at home.
(Yes I’ve heard many weeks that they played the 9ers after “we” broke them. Whatever nonsense that statement is). It’s funny how one says that 99% are brainwashed and yet he is the 1% that lets the 99% know how right he always thinks he is. We get it once again, you don’t think Luck is as good as the rest of the world. There is plenty of room near the top for Wilson and Luck and actually there are many QBs ahead of both. Maybe revisit this tired topic in a few years. I’ll be the first one to tell you that you were right at that time. We all know you don’t have the same ability to tell another person they are right, so I won’t expect anything. Funny thing is, these two are both going to be good for many years.

They have the same record as us. With a starting record of 15-6, Luck has reached that number of victories faster than any quarterback drafted first overall since 1970. Forty plus years of number one picks.
Luck is well on his way to earning his draft status and exceeding high expectations.

Most 4th quarter comebacks, nine in his first twenty games. (Wilson has six, still very impressive)

  61. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Well said MoSeahawk12.
Yankinta can’t answer you back right now because he has gotten off work for TNT. Ever notice he never posts on the weekends too? SMH.

  62. MoSeahawk12 says:

I just figured he didn’t internet at his moms house. He can use it at school through the week though.

  63. GeorgiaHawk says:
  64. MoSeahawk12 says:

Luck QB rating against our D 104.0 with two TDs and zero picks. He only has two ints this season.
Yes, they will beat the Chargers Monday night.

    For the season.
Luck 7 TDs 2 INTs completion 62.2% with 94.1 rating. Luck also has 2 rushing TDs for a total of 9.
Wilson 8 TDs 4 INTs completion 58.3% with 91.2 rating. Wilson has more rushing yardage.
Both QBs and teams are 4-1.

Stats show two QBs that are winning games on good teams.
Wilson has played behind a very damaged Oline and that doesn’t always show up in the stats.
We know Wilson has everything he needs to win lots of games, playoff games and championships.
Stats show Luck is having a better season than Wilson. That doesn’t mean as fans we think he is better than Wilson.

  65. GeorgiaHawk says:

Let it go MoSeahawk12. Most here know what’s going on. I wish TNT would stop this nonsense because it just makes them look bad.

Perhaps they think it’s entertaining and to some degree it is, however it seems obvious to me that Yankinta works for TNT.

  66. MoSeahawk12 says:

I know I should. I’ve said as much. I think you’re giving him(or her) way too much credit. If by TNT you mean TNT Pizza and not this paper/blog then maybe.
Regardless, we have a great team that is dynamite to watch. See what I did there?
Keep enjoying the ride Georgia. It’s been a long time in the making for most of us.

  67. yankinta says:

lol, I don’t work for TNT. but thanks for making me laugh. now I gotta clean up my keyboard…

Yes, I am very passionate about Seahawks and Football (College and Pro) but I don’t want to spend/think about that all day,, so I don’t get on this blog after work. Plus I gotta hit the gym and do errands and stuff. :)

  68. yankinta says:

MoSeahawk12,, lol I’m trying to help those that’s been brainwashed about luck being a Top 5 QB, since he was at Stanford.

  69. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk,, yeah, you’re right, Cowboys lost because of Romo this past weekend. Not because the Defense blew leads multiple times and ended up giving up over 50 points… lol :) you’re right you should ignore that because that just doesn’t matter… only Luck gets to make that excuse about having a bad defense in 2012. Romo isn’t golden child, so he can’t use that excuse. smh….

  70. yankinta says:

lol, and if I did work for TNT, I would log into your account and write Luck Sucks!!!,, just to mess with you guys,,, lmbo,, that’d be FUnny!!
