Seahawks 45, Jaguars 17

Familiarity is irrelevant when it’s not accompanied by talent.

The Seahawks took the expected route to a rout in a 45-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

Don’t be misled by the score. In a rare throttling down by head coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks began pulling starters, including Russell Wilson, with several minutes left in the third quarter.

Seattle went up 31-0. The game was over then.

Wilson threw four touchdowns. Tarvaris Jackson threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin. Marshawn Lynch carried 17 for 69 yards.

There were a few concerns afterward, however.

Red Bryant left in the second half with back spasms. Jermaine Kearse left in the first half with an ankle injury. Right tackle Breno Giacomini, who dealt with a knee problem this week during practice, was the first offensive lineman off the field.

In all, the Seahawks are 3-0 and already have a two-game lead in the division. The 49ers were handled by the Colts 20-7 in San Francisco. Reports out of San Francisco say Aldon Smith’s locker has been emptied.

The Seahawks head to Indianapolis in two weeks. Next week, the Seahawks are in Houston. Baltimore whacked the Texans 30-9 today.

Much more to come.

I know it was only Jax, I know it’s still early, but damn I feel good about this season…

  2. @ Houston @ Indy – Win one of those games and we are in good shape – Win them both and we are in GREAT shape. Lose them both and you come back to the pack.

It will be interesting for sure – wish I could take a nap and wake up right before the next game

  3. MoSeahawk12 says:

Great win. Weird seeing so many backups in the game, but smart on coaching staff. Let’s hope Big Red is going to be ok. Liked the burst from Michaels.

I guess Luck was lucky today going against the 9er D and dropping 27 on them. Keep making misguided statements yanker. Luck is the real deal. Of course you’ll never admit you were wrong. Nothing to see here.

  4. seaturkeys says:

I’m really glad we brought Tavaris back.

  5. Southendzone says:

Huge test this week. 2 home games vs weak offenses now on the road against a tough team.

A win would be huge because either STL or SF is gonna be 1 & 3 after Thursday

  6. Hate the thought of facing JJ Watt with two backup tackles…

  7. bird_spit says:

This is written by a 49er fan..can’t say it better…

    keaaukeli • 12 minutes ago−

The niners suck. Alex smith is 3-0. He doesn’t make the mistakes that Kap does. Harbaugh needs to look into the mirror. His coaching sucks. There is way too much talent there to be making the kind of mistakes the niners are making. That comes down to coaching. We need Chucky to come back to the Bay Area.”

  8. Aldon Smith has been suspended.

  9. We don’t wish ill of anybody. We want the SF 9ers to be playing their best when we face them as well as every other team we face. We also want our Seahawks to play up to their potential in every game they play. Hard to do, but we don’t want any asterick-type thoughts harbored by anybody when SEA finally gets back to the SB and wins it.

  10. LeePHilI says:

Solid blocking by the fullback will be the solution to JJ Watt.

  11. bird_spit says:

I’m sorry to say this, but we saw the best of Jacksonville today.

  12. Only four penalties today. Everybody happy? Did Pete “fix” that?

  13. freedom_X says:

I don’t wish ill on the 49ers in the form of injuries or tragedies. But their troubles are of their own making, amplified by Harbaugh’s holier-than-thou attitude in the offseason. (The SF local press has grilled him on this.)

Maybe Kaepernick did spend too much time on the offseason posing for covers and partying. Maybe when he does come in @5AM to work, he’s busy building his body instead of studying film (I believe Harbaugh asked him to back off the weights in the offseason, and Kaepernick refused.)

Adversity will bring out what’s really happening. More likely, the weak talent SF has at receiver is becoming evident and Kaepernick is not getting any help.

  14. Southendzone says:

Hey KLM, admire that attitude, but as a Seahawk fan who’s beginning to become an old man, I just want to see one Superbowl win, and soon.

I don’t care if Paul Allen has to sell blood diamonds to jihadi insurgents to raise extra money for a key free agent. I don’t care if the refs in the Superbowl we win are Jim Zorn and Effren Herera. I don’t care if the opposing team all get sick with e-coli before the big game.

Just give me that one SB win and then I’ll focus on getting the perfect one.

  15. LeePHilI says:

refs are Jim Zorn and Effren Herera… THAT is funny!!!

  16. seaturkeys says:

I wish the Seahawks had won the Super Bowl during the 7-9 season. I think heads would explode!

  17. Dukeshire says:

Everything in the NFL is irrelevant when not accompanied by talent. This game had to have gone this way. Good teams, and Seattle’s very good, simply must punish bad teams, and Jax is simply awful.

Houston will be a better test, and looking forward to it.

  18. CDHawkFan says:

Agree Southend. And to add, it’s not like anyone has crashed their team plane into a corn field. This is the NFL and injuries, etc happen. Is there any Superbowl winner out there with an asterisk using mainstream opinion (not XL as we all are too bias on that one)?

  19. freedom_X says:

So Vernon Davis didn’t play against the 49ers. That goes quite a way to explain why Kaepernick was so ineffective.

I would have liked to see a better pass rush from Seattle in this game, especially after they were up 38-0. They shouldn’t have had to worry about the run so much.

Also, Walter Thurmond looked a bit vulnerable in the 2nd half. Henne was going after him and winning (for good gains.) I didn’t notice Thurmond keeping the WR from getting a clean release at the line of scrimmage. Not sure if this was part of the scheme or plan though. But it wasn’t as though Thurmond was playing off the receiver.

  20. DanielleMND says:

Any report on Red Bryant’s back problem? That’s a concern.

  21. I think they played more zone today – especially after the big lead.

  22. “Aldon Smith has been suspended.” where did you see that? I think they/he is getting into a Rehab facility – meaning he can return on his time table.

  23. Don’t look now but the Seattle offense is the highest scoring in the NFL – pending the games tonight/Monday. AND have given up the least amount of points on Defense.

  24. Dang it! missed Denver and GB on Offense! shoulda waited for the whole page to load before I ran off and posted!!!

  25. banosser says:

ASmith has been suspended… but conveniently not till after the game today lol… He’ll probably miss Thurs vs Rams.. as also may Willis due to injury

  26. Are there links to show he is suspended? I don’t believe he is, as of now, he will just be away from the team.

  27. JazBadAzz says:

I need big Red, they rushed the ball when he went out the game. Houston runs the ball really well with Ben Tate or Arian Foster. A. Johnson is banged up a little but the rookie is balling!
Can’t wait till the Indy game so I can see my boys in person! #GOHAWKS

  28. JazBadAzz says:

A.Smith is NOT suspended, he is going to rehab! This is good for the young man, life is more important than a game of football. Jed York released the statement himself.

  29. GeorgiaHawk says:

Good win today. No surprise to me, However it will be great to take it on the road to Houston an Indy and come out with a win or two.

  30. raymaines says:

After watching today’s games I’ve come to the point that I don’t really care who gets suspended or hurt. On other teams that is.

The Seahawks are really, really good and I no longer care about Aldon Smith, Trent Richardson or the entire roster of the Huston Texans. I don’t care about 10:00 am starts, long flights or anything else. I suppose things won’t always work out perfectly but I don’t see any particular reason why the the ‘Hawks can’t go 19-0.

  31. I’m glad we have Tarvaris at backup also. It’s nice to be on top of the NFC West. Having the Niners implode is the cherry on top. I can’t stand Harbaugh, and I think it wouldn’t matter if I wasn’t a Seattle fanatic. He just seems like such a tool. Hope we can pull out a win in Houston. Go Hawks!

  32. GeorgiaHawk says:

raymaines- Agree, No reason to care about what another team can do to us.
Other teams have to deal with us now!

  33. GeorgiaHawk says:

Hats off to the Jags for maintaining a high level of competiveness through out the game. They just didn’t have the talent to compete with us.

  34. MikeFromNewJersey says:

So today for my birthday I received an amazing gift from my fiance. A weekend trip to Seattle in 3 weeks for the titans game. I’m a very happy dude!

  35. raymaines says:

On the other hand, I’m worried about Red Bryant and …..

    Breno Giacomini

BG was replaced early and I didn’t hear any reason for it. Is he hurt? Were the ‘Hawks just giving Alvin Bailey playing time? What?

  36. Every game this team plays in – I expect them to win because they are better than their opponent. That doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to go 16-0, I’m not insinuating that in the least (but it would be cool), it’s just that I have confidence in them every week of the season.

Remember the olden days when we’d see the schedule and chalk a few losses up here and they because we knew we probably wouldn’t win? Those years weren’t so long ago and I’m going to enjoy this ride but, man, I really want to see a Super Bowl win sometime soon (like in 133 days).

And, yes, the sky is falling… I’m happy Jackson backs up Wilson, too.

  37. OMG! BobbyK, I can’t believe I read that! LOL!

  38. GeorgiaHawk says:

    MikeFromNewJersey- You are lucky indeed!

raymaines- Perhaps it was Breno playing crappy?

  39. GeorgiaHawk says:

Time to gear up for Houston and Indy!

  40. Chicago is putting the beat down on Pitt so far!! WOW

  41. GeorgiaHawk says:

RADEoN must be in bliss so far with Pittsburgh imploding and the Seahawks exploding.

  42. banosser says:

@ JazzBA… You are correct… ESPN had erroneously reported it as an “Indefinite Suspension”.. I assumed by the Niners.. they updated it explaining why he can’t be suspended..

Hoping Red’s back issues are not serious.. and glad McQ got a game in @ LT prior to Houston & Indy..

    Welcome back Clem & Browner!

  43. It just somehow seems like this might be our year. Things are falling into place rather than stacking up against us like usual. Even if our local hero was out I believe TJack could go all the way this year with this team. It’s early in the season but it just feels different this year. It’s about time wouldn’t you say? If not us then who?

  44. MikeFromNewJersey says:

    Im very fortunate indeed..

Anyway the line is worrying me, we seem to be great at run blocking, but terrible at pass blocking. Not sure what can be done.

  45. jchawks08 says:

Another game, another dominating win. Man life is good if you’re a Seahawks fan. And if you’re also a Huskies fan, HOLY $HIT! What a football season!
I was happy to see Browner back and playing like Brandon Browner. I was a little worried that Thurmond may have passed him skills wise, but that’s obviously not the case just yet. Clemens looked fast and almost got the sack chasing down Henne. Like everyone else, hope nothing is serious with Red and Breno. Speaking of Red, is there a more dominant linemen that doesnt produce any stats? His game is crazy. And I wouldn’t worry too much about our Rushing D. We gave up like 55 yards on the ground. I guess it did seem like more, but it really wasn’t.
It’s hard to stay on an even keel and not get to confident about this team. I’m going to enjoy this ride.
Oh yea, 49ers..LOL! Nice game, guys! I have no sympathy for Aldon Smith or any player that can’t keep himself out of trouble. Seeing them go 7-9 this year would be most pleasing.

  46. The OL is inconsistent. They can’t pass block for a few possessions and then bam all of a sudden they can. Then they cant get the RB back to the LOS and then like 5 plays in a row they have huge holes. Then they can’t do either. . . . etc.

I think we are going to see teams really attack at the LOS this year until they proved they can handle the pressure. It was definitely good to see the good use of 2 TE’s today!!

  47. The SteAlers are loosing, the Whiners (& all other NFC West teams) lost and we won big like we were supposed to. Life is good!

  48. We are NOT running on all cylinders and yet we are “all we need”. It gives us lots of room to improve throughout the season. Can you picture us performing truly up to our potential in the playoffs? This is what we old timers have been waiting for all these years!

  49. raymaines says:

GH suggests #68 might have been replaced because he played crappy. Maybe so, but I’d like to hear the whole story. Please say he’s (BG) not injured.

Separately ….. Jim Harbaugh certainly makes it easy to root against the 49er’s doesn’t he?

Seriously, I never actually root against anybody. I root for the Seahawks and everybody else can win or lose depending on how that would effect the ‘Hawks. That said, Jim Harbaugh really is a douse bag and I’d be OK if he never ever won another game. I just don’t like that guy. Great coach. Douse bag.

  50. Doubledink1 says:

I stated previously that I thought the Carroll/Harbaugh feud was mostly hype. Then I heard Neuhiezel on KJR last week. His was the first eye witness account I had heard and I was stunned by his experiences with them both.

He said it best when he called it “bull elk on bull elk”. It’s real between these two.

  51. edstang45 says:

I don’t think A Smith has been suspended yet just is entering voluntary Rehab..I hope he comes out clean and can stay clean for his own success. But Suspension is still on the table but not til he has his day in court. Right now it’s alledged DUI and NFL I don’t think can take action til it’s settled.. Tell me if I’m wrong.. Great Game today but I wanted to hold them under 10 and run up the score baby..but thats just me Go Hawks
