Left tackle Russell Okung is seeking a second opinion on what is reported to be a toe injury suffered against San Francisco. He will not play Sunday.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Okung is getting that second opinion “in the country” but would not specify beyond that.

Paul McQuistan will start at left tackle. James Carpeneter will be the left guard. Carroll said he though that duo did fine last week, especially considering McQuistan hadn’t often worked specifically in that spot during the week leading up to the game.

“We’re working quickly, trying to get it all figured out,” Carroll said.

The quick hits from a busy day at the VMAC:

> Carroll said holding out Chris Clemons would be more difficult at this point than playing him.

> Spencer Ware has an ankle sprain and may not be able to play. That could mean the debut of Christine Michael.

> Percy Harvin is telling Carroll that he is preparing to come back “as soon as possible.”

> Brandon Browner will practice Wednesday. When he’s ready to go, he’ll be back in his starting spot. Carroll said they are going to be more cautious with Browner than Clemons because this is the first hamstring injury for Browner.

> Carroll said it hasn’t been a big transition for K.J. Wright from Sam backer to Will. “He came in with flexibility in his mind and athleticism.” Carroll said Wright is not only good in coverage, but also a good blitzer.

> Asked if guys have bought into the “every week is a championship week” philosophy, Carroll thinks that’s happened now since the core group has been here for a couple years, though there are initial doubts from player that the message will be consistent. “Guys are skeptical. These guys are pounded with our mentality.”

> With Okung out, Alvin Bailey and Michael Bowie get bumped up the food chain. Carroll didn’t say if either would play Sunday, but that the best way to “bring them along” was to get them game action.

> When talking about tackle Breno Giacomini learning to stay away from personal fouls, Carroll smiled. He joked that Giacomini has been on the wrong side of the line between being aggressive and racking up dumb penalties much more often than the right side. “Hopefully, he’s beyond that.”

> Carroll on the offense: “I’m not real happy with anything in the overall offense right now.”

> Carroll said Jeron Johnson is “getting close.”

> Carroll on Sidney Rice spinning the ball after catches: “He’s done.”

> Golden Tate said he couldn’t listen to loud music for two days after the San Francisco game because the stadium was so loud.

> Carroll said it will be different coaching against a person that he is so familiar with. He also said the process and pursuit for all assistants should be to become head coaches.

  1. Hey Todd didn’t realize this was your post! Welcome and glad to have you aboard.

  2. jawpeace says:

Well Okung’s injury sucks but it happened at a good time. Early in the season and playing the weak Jags next at home, should help the O line adjust. The question is if it is a blow out like I am thinking it will be, do you give Bailey or Bowie some reps at Left tackle? Or do you give them all to MQ?

  3. Todd Dybas says:

Hey, LVHawk. Thanks. We’re getting started with the transition today. I’ll ask you folks for a bit of leniency as we get going since I’ll be pulling double-duty with the Seahawks and Huskies football for a bit. But, I’m excited to get things rolling. We’re going to keep doing some of the excellent things that Eric did and add some new wrinkles. If you have thoughts, questions or concerns, feel free to email me (

  4. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Welcome to the blog Todd.

Good thing the O-line Has Jacksonville this week to help get it all worked out.

  5. GeorgiaHawk says:

Double-duty is a good thing with the way the Seahawks and Huskies are playing.

  6. I don’t know how Carroll can say that KJ Wright is ‘good in coverage’ with a straight face.

  7. Okung’s injury is disappointing – will he never be healthy for a full 16 games? Next it will be Carpenter and / or Thurmond. Thank heavens we have depth……

  8. chuck_easton says:

Posted this on the previous thread, but it’s relevant here as well:

The Okung story is going to be death by 1,000 paper cuts. Each new report will be a little more ominous until we finally learn he’s out for significant time, if not for the season.

Just assume he’s done and move on. If he comes back at all it can be a happy surprise development. But my money is still on IR – Designated to Return at best case and season ending IR at worst.

People on here that keep holding out some hope of seeing Okung anytime soon are just setting themselves up for heartache and disappointment.

Next man up, and let’s hope whomever takes the LT job for the rest of the Season can be an adequate stopgap.

  9. RDPoulsbo says:

Welcome Todd. Can’t promise much leniency since it seems we keep chasing bloggers off to ESPN.

I’d like to see Bowie and Bailey get significant time at LT this Sunday. Not to overlook the Jags, but it’s a hell of a lot better that they get their first regular season action under their belt against them than against Watt or Cushing.

  10. GeorgiaHawk says:

Well, at least we have a chance to get Okung back for the playoffs. It doesn’t look as good for Denver and their LT.

  11. chuck_easton says:

Here’s the new plan. Let’s just start out by trashing poor Todd to the point that it appears he’s hopeless as a blog master.

That way maybe the 4 letter network won’t steal this one from us and we can enjoy his company for years to come.

Sorry Todd, but it’s in our best interest. :)

  12. MikeFromNewJersey says:

I think Bailey is higher up than Bowie on the food chain considering Bailey was at LT and Bowie at RT in pre-season.. McQuistan will be fine but we may see less on Zach Miller in the passing game.

  13. GeorgiaHawk says:

Yank & Seehawkgo said a few threads back that Steeler fans and websites say that DeCastro is a major bust. I looked some up and found nothing to help make their case.

So can you produce any evidence Yank &/or Seehawkgo to make your case? Or is this just another attempt to manipulate your own opinion into something else?

  14. FleaFlicker says:

Question of the Day: does Todd have to carry Eric’s shoulder pads as part of his rookie duties?

  15. wazzulander says:

Michaels to be active? I guess I’ll have to re-examine my fantasy strategy then since I just picked up Turbo this week for the Jags matchup, assuming he’d get pretty much all the non-Lynch carries. I’m definitely excited to see CM play though if it happens, dude has some sizzle to his game.

  16. grizindabox24 says:

Browns trade Richardson to Indy for a 1st rounder

  17. The lady and man who wrote the letter to the editor were just on the Dori Monson show. You guys HAVE to listen to this. HAHA. They are so pathetic, listen to them whine about it…

  18. Re Richardson – strange trade for the Browns to throw in the towel on a top-5 pick two games into his second season. The times I’ve seen him, it’s looked much more like the O-line than him that’s causing the lack of production. That’s a nice pick-up for Indy.

    Tweaks a lot of fantasy teams . . .

  19. GeorgiaHawk says:

jboard1- For some reason I couldn’t hear anything.

  20. Dukeshire says:

Todd, Welcome. Look forward to getting to know your style.

  21. Georgia – you know i had some issues with it taking a while as well. I had to hit play and pause a few times and it eventually played. It is worth the wait, trust me, it is absolutely hilarious and pathetic what these 2 morons are saying. They said it is “dirty play” for fans to be that noisy. And “it was an unfair advantage. If there was no noise we would have won and you would have lost”. So every one needs to listen to this, its awesome

  22. GeorgiaHawk says:

OK, I will try it again.

  23. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Still no audio.

  24. SandpointHawk says:

Todd, welcome to bloger hell. Don’t let it get you down. There are some here you can count on and then some who will…well you will figure it out.

For the record; who cares about DeCastro? It’s over he’s not a Hawk…you were right he was wrong or vise versa….let it go and move on…nobody cares…

  25. Yeah I had to play with it a bit before it worked for me as well, I think it’s just being overloaded with hits.

It really demonstrates how the BayBoy forty-whiners earned their nickname.

  26. FleaFlicker says:

jboard1: That lady is nuts. Niners ran the wrong routes because it was too noisy. Please!

  27. Southendzone says:

Ok those 2 49’er fans were hilarious on the Dori Monson link from above.

Do you guys remember the bad-old-days of the excessive noise rules? That was so terrible back in the dome when some sissy QB would step back from the huddle look at the ref with his hands held up like “Hey poor me, I can’t hear”

Sometimes the ref would throw a flag, sometimes they’d just ignore him and he’d get a delay of game.

  28. Haha! Glad some of you got it to work. Ya, i’ve never felt so good to call them the 40whiners. So so so pathetic. Now, i hope to god we can go into the Stick and freakin crush them again…then hear what they have to say.

  29. JazBadAzz says:

The Colts trade their 1st rd pick in next yrs draft for the Cleveland Browns rb Trent Richardson.

The week 5 game against the Colts just got a lot harder. Damn Browns SMH

  30. GeorgiaHawk says:

SandpointHawk- this is hardly blogger hell compared to other blogs. But try to make it something it’s not anyways. Lol.

BTW-For the record, who cares what you think about DeCastro.

Now go back into your man cave or add something of substance to this blog.

  31. GeorgiaHawk says:

I still can’t get this audio to work. Is there another link.

  32. banosser says:

I sure wouldn’t have wanted DeCastro taking out Ungers ACL…

  33. GeorgiaHawk says:

banosser, if you recall DeCastro was taken out his first year by his own lineman.
Shit happens sometimes in the NFL. Just ask the 49er fans about Sweezy.

  34. RDPoulsbo says:

So has Eric handed over the sweater vest yet?

I guess Cleveland saw Jacksonville’s ineptitude and are trying to one up it to get Teddy Bridgewater. Going to be hard to do in that AFC North division. Might as well cut Weeden right now with this kind of move. At least he’ll have a better chance of surviving the season.

Yeah, that audio of the 49er fans is even more rediculous than their letter to the editor.

  35. GeorgiaHawk says:

RDPoulsbo- How did you get that audio?

  36. RDPoulsbo says:

Just played it on my phone. Had no issues, so I’m not sure what problems people are having.

  37. Sorry Georgia, i’m not sure why you are having issues. I keep going back to the link and it takes a few tries but it works. Try a different browser (i’m using chrome). Or try your phone…

  38. GeorgiaHawk says:

I tried it on my phone to and had no such luck. Oh well, I pretty much can guess what they said.

  39. So, Im a troll for noting the offense is nor working, and the line is below avg. But Carroll admits it– hes pissed enough at the offense to speak to the press about it. Keep your head in the sand if you want to, but Seattles offense is a struggling mess right now.

Cmon, Bevell, lets see some of that late 2012 magic! Find a way, baby!

  40. GeorgiaHawk says:

Yes STTBM, you are a troll just like me for having a strong opinion.

This is the blog from hell according to SandpointHawk. Lol. I wonder why someone would choose to stay here if this was really the blog from hell?
And contribute little if any unless he is taking shots at others.

Sandpointhawk, you can do better then this I hope.

  41. sluggo42 says:

Ya slave, you are right. Offense is super struggling. I don’t know that it’s as much personnel or play calling. Wheezy, unger, and McQ have really been having problems, although the run blocking has been ok. Passports has been dismal at best. RW has been hurried, hit, flushed, whatever, on about 80% of pass attempts.
That’s why I want Baily to get some game time at LT, and Bowie some G time. Can they really do worse then mcQ and wheezy?

  42. GeorgiaHawk says:

sluggo42- It’s typical for most offenses to struggle early in the year.

I’m not worried because if you look at Wilsons QB rating in the 4th qtr this year only Peyton Manning has a better one.

  43. Did you guys know that the Clink is the only stadium in the NFL that gives the home team a noise advantage? That’s the gospel according to whiny itches 1 and 2. I guess the Whiner fans might snort some cabernet sauvignon out of their noses if they made some noise.

  44. STTBM, Bevell said that they were struggling due to penalties. He never said that the o-line is below average. Don’t pull a muscle patting yourself on the back. It makes it hard to take your position seriously when you give the o-line zero credit for putting up 172 rushing yards against a very good defense without their best lineman for most of the game.

  45. If Carp was a bust in year one then so was Decastro. I still believe he will be a good player though. The Stealers o-line is a dumpster fire without Pouncey though.

The Browns are a complete dumpster fire as well. Glad I don’t follow that train wreck. You’ll pay Paul Kruger 8 mil a year but think Richardson is only worth a mid to late 1st round pick? Good lord.

  46. Late to the party but – WELCOME TODD!!!
