Per usual, Richard Sherman had a lot to say postgame Sunday. He had a big game with a pick, a dance and sticky coverage on Anquan Boldin. Sherman showed up to the interview room with his two game balls from the night and displayed them on the podium.

Here’s what he had to say:

Opening) A lot of people say, do they live up to the hype? Are they the best secondary in the league. There’s a lot of talk. A lot of hearsay. And, we just keep putting it on film. All we do. We go out there, put it on film again. Earl Thomas, All-Pro safety. Put it on film again. Took points off the board.

Kam Chancellor, All-Pro safety, showed it again. We do exactly what we’re supposed to do. People are like, ‘Oh, man, this is the best secondary, this is the best secondary.’ We’re just the best secondary on film.

On his interception) Once I located it, I thought I could get it. I wasn’t sure where Vernon was or if he was going up, so I wanted to get it at its highest point.

You were on Boldin a lot, was that a switch from last time?) Yeah, I asked coach for the challenge. I wanted to follow him. There was a lot of things being said this week and he had a great game last week. He went for 200-plus yards and had a resurgence and such. There’s a lot of talk about elite corners and who follow who, etc., etc. I wanted to negate that.

You followed him on third down?) I followed him a lot. A little more than third down.

How often have you done that in the past?) Not very often. When BB’s out, though, the defense gets a little different. Obviously, Walter and Byron did a great job and they’re great corners. Shoot, they’re elite-caliber corners. I asked them for it. It was no disrespect to those guys, but I wanted the matchup.

The number of guys who made plays on defense) It was fantastic. I was excited because the new guys made plays. You had Cliff Avril making a sack, forced fumble. You had Michael Bennett, you had old-school guys, KJ, getting a sack. There was pressure all day. I think the D-line and the linebackers did a great job creating pressure and making sure Kaepernick was uncomfortable the whole game. I think that helped us get turnovers.

A lot of national people picked you guys to lose, how do you use that as fire?) Did we lose? … Oh. See how smart they are. They might not have watched the last game that we played (against the 49ers). They might not know what the score was. You guys know. You guys know what that score was? Wasn’t that dissimilar from this score, was it? OK. Just making sure.

Almost 500 yards for 49ers last week, does it further the fact that you guys were able to shut them down?) We did what we expected to do. I think you guys expected something different. You guys expected a little more Kaepernicking, couple of these (leans, flexes bicep). We expect guys to play disciplined ball. We didn’t expect Anquan to go for 200 yards. We didn’t expect Vernon to go off. We had a great gameplan and guys executed it to a T. D-line played their jobs, they did an excellent job. The linebackers slid when they needed to, they made tackles. Kaepernick made his plays. He got out of the pocket. He’s a great quarterback, he’s dynamic. He’s going to make his plays. I think we withstood a lot of the flurries they had and we were able to make the plays when they counted.

Key against Boldin?) Being physical. I think a lot of people think he’s just going to out-physical you the whole game and I think I countered that with physicality.

Did the offseason attention for Kaepernick bother you at all?) Not at all. He deserved it. He deserved it. In the middle of the season, he stepped in, he stepped up and led his team to the Super Bowl. He deserved every accolade he got. He deserved every magazine cover, every nominee, every everything. No problem with a guy getting what he deserves. He led his team and he almost won it.

What’s the message from your D to Russell?) It’s the same message every week to Russell. He’s a great quarterback. He’s a dynamic quarterback. We want to ease the stress off him. If he makes a mistake, we’re there for him. If you throw a pick, we’ll get you the ball back. If things aren’t going your way early, don’t lose confidence. We promise you we’ll stand up. We’ll get the ball back. We want him to feel comfortable. Every game, we tell him the same thing, hey, we’ve got you’re back. We got you. Things didn’t happen very well in the first half and he was able to bounce back. We knew he would. He came out during the break, he came out with a shower or something and he looked like a baaadddd man. I knew he was going to do it.

What did you do during the break?) We listened to music. We got hyped. I partied with the D-line a little bit, we did some dance moves (now dancing at podium) and had a good time.

You had an exchange with Harbaugh after?) I told him good game. I slapped him on the butt, he turned around and gave me the wave.

After your pick, you were seen dancing with the Sea Gals. Are you looking for a back up career?) I was thinking, while I’m here with them, I could catch some of their dance moves and get thing jumping. I’m known to get it jumping from time to time. It was an opportunity to try out. I think there was a misogynistic thing said early in the week about “She-Hawks” or something like that. I think he meant the Sea Gals. He didn’t know the name, ah, I get it.

Athletic QB, but you guys were aggressive from the start) That comes down to knowing your assignment and playing. Everybody had an assignment whether you have the quarterback, running back, the fullback, whether you’re on Vernon Davis, Anquan Boldin, you have an assignment. We needed guys to execute. Good defense comes down to executing your assignment and that’s what guys did today. Byron Maxwell, he was matched up on Vernon Davis to get him out on third downs and he stood up. Walter Thurmond had a heck of a game in the slot and on the edge. He stood up when he needed to stand up. We played a lot of man coverage and that’s something we asked our defensive coordinator for and he gave it to us and I think we proved we are capable)

What did you think of Cliff Avril?) I think he did a great job. That sack forced-fumble was huge. Any turnover is huge, but, I think just the pressure all day on him was a big deal and I think he was a big part of that.

Earl said he thought you could win 5-0, agree?) We felt that way. We definitely felt that way. We were playing them well. It’s not like we were doing anything exotic. It’s not like they weren’t executing their offense, they were running exactly what they wanted to run. They had a few nuances here and there. But, they were running their offense and we were able to make some plays, guys like Big Red, Mebane and Mike Bennett, they were standing up and penetrating and that was a big help for us.

Style of play with Boldin, is that something you welcome?) Yeah. I just get tired of the notion of people saying I’m not elite. Sunday Night Football, everybody’s watching? Watch this.

Personal fouls late?) I think they were just a little frustrated. I think they expected a different outcome for the game. Obviously, when you’re not winning the football game it’s frustrating. If we were not winning, we’d be frustrated. I think our guys did a great job not reacting, not retaliating, I’m sure the league will have something to say about.

How much of this with you and the 49ers is real and how much is show?) What are the combined scores from the last two games? (71-16) Anybody? Anybody? How much of it is real and how much of it is fabricated? That’s real.

  1. We all we need we all we got . Go Hawks

  2. MoSeahawk12 says:

Awesome confidence, but don’t cross over to D head territory Sherman. Nobody likes a poor winner. Stay humble. You guys played great tonight, but you have to win a lot more to complete the season and win it all.
The stats will back the facts. Win with class and dignity. The media and “experts” are wrong often. Just keep playing the way you guys can and the rest will work itself out.

  3. jchawks08 says:

Sherman toes the line between talking smack and just plain real talk. Read all the above comments again. Is anything he says fabricated? Is there any hyberbole or big talk? It’s all truth. There are some special players in this league and Richard Sherman is the cream of the crop.
Without Kaep’s 80 some odd yards rushing we held this 600 yard offense (last week) to about 110 yards. Without 3 starters on Defense. Holy crap!
How about that 2nd half offense? 24 pts. Maybe the total yards weren’t there at the end, but it’s because of the D and Special Teams. Golden Tate returning punts to midfield.
Oh and about that offense? Marshawn Lynch with 135 yards. A tough 98 yards rushing with 2 TD’s. His receiving TD with noone within 7 yards of him. So smooth. RW was 66% passing in 2nd half.
Tell me what is not to love about this team? What is the weak link?? LOL there is none.

  4. HeinieHunter says:

I keep wondering how Harbaugh was the college coach of both Sherman and Baldwin and whiffed on them in the draft? He should really be embarrassed by that.

  5. SandpointHawk says:

Welcome aboard Todd, nice transcript, much appreciated.

  6. Carlsonkid says:

Honestly , that’s the most fun I’ve had at a game since the NFC Championship game against the Panthers . One for the ages …

  7. yankinta says:

For the record, I’m not a stupid idiot. I expected us to win in a blow out. I excepted us to shut down Boldin easily and I expected us to shut down their running game under 80 yards!!… Ok, Sherman?? Ok?? I’m not one of therm,, :)

  8. MikeFromNewJersey says:

Michael Bennet and Cliff Avril played great!!
Bennet playing Leo on running downs was a surprise and difference maker, the whiners could not run at all.. And finally a pass rush from multiple players without blitzing much. If we can pressure the QB without blitzing watch out!!:))

  9. montanamike2 says:

This is proof positive that we played “vanilla” last week so we wouldn’t show our hand. We simply destroyed them, i really envy you guys who got to go to the game. I bet next time we play them there won’t be any She-hawks smack talking all week prior. Willson better cut out the false start penalties or he won’t get any playing time. One more thing: do you think we’ll get better when Clemmons, Hill, Irvin and Harvin get back? A healthy Browner? Mcdaniel is a beast against the run.

  10. Nate–why don’t you take a night off from bashing me? Georgia is doing the same thing to me he did to you, he was dead wrong and rather than admit it and apologize, he keeps baiting me. Are you trying to bait me as well?

The line isn’t even mediocre. Both in pass pro and in the run game, they have regressed. I’m not worried about next eek, but the continued struggles of the line should be a major concern over the long haul barring rapid and major improvement.

By no means am I saying we aren’t a fine team, the line is just not performing at the level they should. Lynch avg barely 3 ypc!

As I said, single finest Defensive performance I’ve seen; I’m in awe! And to think they played that well without Clemons or Irvin, and with injured DT’s!

No more worries about Quinn, he’s a stud!

  11. GeorgiaHawk says:

I didn’t think we would have more then one bye week this year but after last nights defensive performance and the energy of the crowd I think our starters will be resting a lot at home.

  12. yankinta says:

It was priceless to see the face of Mike Florio, right after the Richard Sherman’s interview by Sunday Night Crew,, He was sooo mad cuz he picked the Niners and Richard called him an ignorant idiot… I couldn’t help but went to bed smiling!! lol

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/16/richard-sherman-warns-ignorant-idiots-to-not-doubt-them-again/

  13. yankinta says:

And the rest of the Ignorant Idiots from ESPN are,, Allen, Golic, JAWS, Mortensen, Mark Schlereth, Wickersham, Tom Jackson and Keyshawn Johnson. :)

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks

But I already said JAWS is garbage months ago so all of you already know…. :) CK proved my point that he can’t anticipate WR getting open and throw accurately…. He’s only good against Zone!!! :)

  14. Dukeshire says:

While I won’t go as far as STTBM regarding the o line, they are playing poorly. Losing Okung clearly hurts as McQuistan is an obvious downgrade at LT. The position on the line that has me most concerned actually, after last night, is Unger. That’s two very poor games to start the season for him. Last night alone he had two holds and a botched snap (not to mention his generally mediocre protection as a whole).

On a positive note, Sweezy I thought played his best game as a pro. His athleticism is obvious and he seemed to be finishing blocks well. Last night game me a great deal of hope about his future.

  15. Dukeshire says:

Mike Florio is an absolute clown, but to paraphrase yankinta, I’ve made that point for years, so all of you know…

  16. GeorgiaHawk says:

Wilson did take a pounding last night, and it looks like the Refs are giving the green light to pummel the QB on read option plays whether they run it or not.

That won’t be good for RG3 moving forward imo.

  17. yankinta says:

Dukeshire, lol I see. I did not know that about Mike Florio,, I thought he was okay,, :) I taped Skip Bayless show this morning to see his reaction to the game last night,, lol… I bet he picked the niners too so I wonder how he feels about being called ignorant idiot on National TV,, I guess he’s used to it by now,, lol :)

  18. sluggo42 says:

Slave, you get bashed only cuz you rag on the line so much. I agree with you it needs some work, but you do take it to another level. I have no idea where Georgia is coming from, but if there is one word about the hawks fron anywhere in the world, he will post a link to it.

Sherman walks the line, but dude is the real deal. Absolutely destroyed Boldin. It was like, you mad bro? Did you hurt yourself crashing back to earth?

So, this is what it feels like having a pass rush eh? I like it… Daddy likey.

Will Clemons and Irvin still be first string? I dunno…

Interesting that Ware and Cloeman were active, but Cristin was NOT

    WHY IS UNGER STRUGGLING?
    is OKunung alright?

    Walter Thurmond is solid
I laughed about when maxwell threw that receiver to the ground for a penalty…

    Carson Palmer make Arizona viable

  19. Dukeshire says:

“I’m better at life than you.” Richard Sherman to Skip Bayless.

  20. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, RG3 is already exposed,,, that dude picks up more than 50% of his passing yards from Dink and Donk Passes where his WR work the yards for him,,, I was never impressed from Day One. :)

  21. seahawkNJ says:

This defense is special. At a few points late in the game it seemed like there were 15 players on the field. 9 guys buzzing around Kaepernick…left me wondering who was in coverage….Kaep completes a pass and 6 guys are around the ball. They are scary good, scary fast.

  22. yankinta says:

GeorgiaHawk, BTW,, Andrew Luck struggled and lost, just like I predicted last week…. that dude is only good against Below Average Defenses…. :)

  23. Dukeshire says:

    25 of 43 for 321 isn’t what I would call “struggling”.

  24. thursday says:

Lol that’s what I like to say to people who get ruffled at Sherman. Is he lying tho?

  25. yankinta says:

Well, I call it that cuz he was playing at home and tried to make another 4th Qtr comeback and instead threw a Pick. :)

  26. sluggo42 says:

Yank, luck made some really great (lucky) throws. I wouldn’t keep harping on him, but that’s just my opinion…
Kaperjunk, not so many against us.

  27. GeorgiaHawk says:

    OK STTBM, I apologize!

But honestly I forget what I’m apologizing for, however I’m sure I said something stupid after a few. Lol.

  28. GeorgiaHawk says:

yankinta, I’m not a Luck fan at all however I think you will be eating some crow if you continue to harp on him.
Doesn’t Luck have a high QBR?

Anyways, the poor guy now has to face a very good defense on the road. Good Luck with that.

  29. yankinta says:

Nah,, I doubt it. So far I’m pretty confident. He will play against 4th easiest schedule this year so when he does have some good games,,, I won’t overreact and say he’s the real deal…. The only real deal is RW, in my book, :)

  30. tealskin says:

It was interesting that Sherman had his mouth covered during the game (and saved any comments for post-game?) Think the GB-SF game was an anomaly. The niners are hurting at receiver. If you can shut down Davis, Boldin is not enough of a difference maker. It helps to have Richard of course.

  31. “It was priceless to see the face of Mike Florio, right after the Richard Sherman’s interview by Sunday Night Crew,, He was sooo mad cuz he picked the Niners and Richard called him an ignorant idiot… I couldn’t help but went to bed smiling!! lol”

Yank – I don’t agree w/you about all that many things on here, but i’m 100% with you on this. Florio’s an ass, and completely impartial of his dislike of the Hawks and especially Sherman. Makes me angry. You can say why some players don’t even want to talk to the media.

  32. MoSeahawk12 says:

Man your back must be getting sore from all the self patting. You really should go to Hallmark and buy yourself a congratulations card today.

  33. yankinta says:

    already did, but thanks… :)

  34. “The niners are hurting at receiver. If you can shut down Davis, Boldin is not enough of a difference maker. It helps to have Richard of course.”

Right, totally agree with that. And you’ve got their weakest link going against the strongest unit on our team, and I don’t think that changes all that much even when Crabtree comes back (he’s not a quick receiver either). What was impressive was how we completely shut down their run game too. Take away Kaep’s scrambles (and really, there’s not much you can do about some of that), and they rushed for a total of 13 yards.

  35. I loved his comments last night about the Defense:

    1. Having a sound plan
    2. Players keeping their assignments
    3. He asked for the “challenge” of Boldin – knowing it would be a tough challenge that he was ready to take and excel.

  36. HeinieHunter says:

Ignore the “talking heads” as they are parrots. Fox pregame experts Johnson, Bradshaw, Long, etc. all picked the Niners to win in Seattle. The Hawks made fools out of them all. Glad to see Richard Sherman call them and all their cronies out!

  37. Sherman used the word ‘misogynistic’ AND used it in the proper context. His trash talk is the best because he keeps it real and he talks like he actually attended class in college.

  38. STTBM, dude, I was hardly bashing you. I didn’t insult you personally. Saying that I’m trying to bait you or comparing me to your spat with Georgia is silly IMO.

I did say “your incessant whining”, but that wasn’t a personal insult. It just describes your posts about the o-line. I know how you feel about the o-line. Everybody on here and in China knows how you feel about the o-line. You diminish your point though when you refuse to ever say anything good about it though. So, the Hawks got 172 rushing yards against a very good defense with awful run blocking? Sweezy didn’t play much better? Carp? Did you see him on that first Beast TD run? Breno gets no credit for drawing a PF? Pepper in a few positives with your bellyaching when it is appropriate.

The o-line certainly has some things to work on. I would bet that most would agree with that. But accept improvement when you see it. They were without their best lineman for most of the game too. You certainly don’t need my permission to post what you want, but it becomes like a broken record and annoying after awhile.

It’s sad to me that the night of a very big Hawks win that your first post is like 50% negative. Can’t you just enjoy a big win for ONE night? If you can’t enjoy last night, then I don’t know why you watch football. Enjoy the ride, because you aren’t going to win the Sb most years. It almost seems like if they won the SB that your first post would be like 50% complaints about what they could’ve done better. Just my 2 cents. Not baiting you.
