The Seattle Seahawks voted on team captains today. And it should come as no surprise what players were selected – Russell Wilson on offense, Red Bryant on defense and Heath Farwell on special teams.

“It’s a tremendous honor,” Wilson said. “We have so many leaders on this football team, from guys like Max Unger and Russell Okung, to Marshawn Lynch, to Sidney Rice to obviously the DBs and Bobby Wagner – so many different guys.

“So it’s a tremendous honor. I’m excited about. But at the same, you just try and play one game at a time, and try to help our football team win – whatever it takes.”

Wilson talked about all the attention he’s received nationally, including cover shots on ESPN and Sports Illustrated, and spread inside GQ. Wilson says he has a simple way of dealing with it – he doesn’t read the articles.

“Like I always say, I ignore the noise,” Wilson said. “I don’t really pay attention. I don’t read any of the articles – sorry. But I don’t really anything really you guys write to be honest. It’s one of those things where I just have to stay away from it as much as possible.

“The magazine stuff, I don’t even look at it. Somebody may email me the picture or text me the picture, but I don’t every buy it myself or read it myself.”

Wilson also talked about the 10 a.m. start times on the East Coast, and how Pete Carroll addressed that by practicing at 10 a.m. every day during training camp.

The Seahawks have five, 10 a.m. start times this season, beginning on Sunday at Carolina.

“I think that is something that’s real,” Wilson said. “You have to make sure that your getting your sleep, and getting your rest. Coach Carroll and Sam (Director of Health and Performance Sam Ramsden) our athletic trainer have done a tremendous job of talking to us about that, and getting our hydration, getting our sleep, making sure that we’re prepared because we’re going to have a lot of those games.

“At the end of the day though, if we’re really ready mentally, it doesn’t matter when we play or what time we play.”

RW says: So it’s a tremendous honor. I’m excited about. But at the same, you just try and spew one foolish sports cliche at a time, …….

  2. It’s like he’s some sort of robot…

  3. mocarob says:

    A ‘Caption’ ? Wassatt?

  4. roddychops says:

All photos of the Seahawks offense will henceforth bear the caption, “Russell Wilson.”

  5. MikeFromNewJersey says:

RW “the seperation is in the preperation”

My man!!! Im pumped for the season!!

  6. I understand some people feeling that Russell can come across as insincere, too good to be true or ‘canned.’ I remember having the same feelings with ARod during his years with the Mariners. My take is that Russell has shown consistency during his time with the Hawk, although I know it has only been a year. Like with anyone, time will tell. My impression so far is that he is the real deal.

  7. This may have been linked before, but I cannot watch this ‘Make a Wish’ story that involves the Hawks enough. Enjoy

  8. SandpointHawk says:

Who is this ARod fellow you speak of? Jogs something in my memory banks but comes back as a “No you don’t want to remember that piece of crap…”

  9. wow, I can’t make it through those Make a Wish videos with my eyes dry. Damn. I’m proud of all the NFL teams for doing that.

  10. Dukeshire says:

Russell Wilson learning the art of press conferences.

  11. tealskin says:

There are worse things than being a cliche-spewing robot. Maybe someday RW will be more of a Hasselbeck. One can only hope.

  12. Dukeshire says:

Konz back on the PS? Damn, the project continues…

  13. Antideluvian says:

    Amazing Make-a-wish video. Go Hawks!

  14. freedom_X says:

The difference between Wilson and Alex Rodriquez is that Wilson deliberately is presenting a controlled, professional image, and everyone knows it. There is no element of insincerity there. We all know Wilson is carefully choosing or limiting his words, and does a great job of it actually for someone that young. I prefer that to a Johnny Manziel, though the more entertainment oriented fans probably would like more Johnny Football type activity.

Rodriquez on the other hand was deliberately cultivating a false image, and didn’t want anyone to know it. So Seattle fans bought into it originally. There were some parallels in that Rodriquez also was very well controlled as a public speaker for someone so young. But in his case, he wasn’t doing it for the benefit of the team or org. He was doing it to conceal the truth about himself.

  15. Hawkjitsu says:

Duke – Do you have any sort of notion on why he (Konz) keeps coming back? I get that he has physical skills, but then why can’t he stick on a roster???

  16. freedom_X says:

What position is Konz playing this time?

  17. Hawkjitsu says:

freedom – They have him listed at DE

  18. Practice report today – Browner did not participate

Avril, Mebane, McDaniel, Rice all practiced 100%

  19. Crapola on the Browner injury front. Very bad news. Well, it will be WT and either Maxwell or Lane in the slot, I guess…

Glad to hear everyone else practiced 100%. Sunday cant get here fast enough…

RW may be boring, but he’s sincere. PayRod was, is, and always will be a fake-ass jerk. The man is cookoo for cocoa puffs.

  20. Wilson is more Captain Crunch.

  21. rramstad says:

    Named “team captions”? that’s hysterical.

  22. raymaines says:

    I was a caption once

  23. GeorgiaHawk says:

Big red, Farwell and Wilson deserve to be team captains.

  24. Does anyone remember who was the offensive captain last year?

  25. GeorgiaHawk says:

Lol Duke regarding Konz. Perhaps some day he will find his true position. LS is my guess, lol.

  26. GeorgiaHawk says:

Wilson looking forward to coming back to Carolina and playing against his old nemesis Kuechly.

  27. Hawkjitsu says:

Does ANYONE have an idea of why we keep going with Konz? He’s got to be a diamond in the rough…but he should be sized and cut like a diamond by now.

  28. Hawkjitsu says:

bbmate – Unger was Off. captain. Well deserved!

  29. GeorgiaHawk says:

I don’t recall Wilson winning rookie of the year but the rest of this article is worth reading.

  30. Thanks, Hawkjitsu. I would’ve either guessed him or Mike Rob.

  31. Hawkjitsu says:

Georgia – GREAT article. Here’s a chart showing what 35 different writers predict on divisions, w/c’s/conferences, and SB winners.

  32. Hawkjitsu says:

bbmate- Funny. I think MRob was ST captain. They should bring him in to get the unit pumped before kickoff.

  33. tealskin says:

Maybe they’re going to move Konz back to the H-back/TE spot again. Isn’t that where he started out? One of the places he started out anyway.

  34. Konz has found his true position already–Left Out!

  35. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Cool stuff Hawkjitsu.

  36. https://twitter.com/Seahawks/status/244165237694140416

They had 4 captains in 2012 actually, not sure why. Farwell and Mike Rob were both captains. I thought that Farwell was ST captain in 2012.

  37. jchawks08 says:

Let’s not ever compare RW to A-Rod again!! lol I mean I get the public persona comparison, but Wilson is way less canned. I mean he seems sincere to me.
And I didn’t know about the 10AM practices to prepare for the FIVE 10AM games we have this year. Those are the details Championship teams prepare for.
I cannot even express how excited I am for this Seahawks season.

  38. Georgia, how do you find all of the RW3 articles?
Do you have them delivered to your inbox via google news feeds?
You are in love.. No wonder you’re girlfriend tries to get you off the puter.. She’s jealous..

  39. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Lol mocarob.
